That is kind of the point. Way too many channels promoting bikes that were given a demo bike (Wired included). It is really the only way some of these people have 20+ bikes. But head to head comparisons are helpful to some degree. Just be wary of behind the scenes deals promo deals.
@@SarahJane-y1p Grape is preferred. But I do own a couple of e-bikes and a trike. The owners of Wired are a couple of lawyers so do with that what you will. The owner of e-cells has a terrible Better Business Bureau rating, again just be aware of who you are doing business with if it matters to you.
I purchased the ECells Step Star, but it was not delivered as ordered, and after numerous emails and phone calls, things are still not resolved. Their website claims "unparalleled customer service", but it hasn't been unparalleled in a good way...
I’m not surprised at all. Ecells is a joke. Ordered a bike over 2 months ago and still no Five Star bike. Ended up ordering a wired freedom after hundreds of reviews. Got the new freedom in that comes with 2 batteries. It is great. This bike is a tank. I definitely feel safe on it. I did go through and tighten every bolt one the bike though. I would have loved to have got the chance to ride the five star.
Thx for the review. Last month I ordered a 5 Star and was looking at both bikes. But there is a limit on how much research you can actually do without riding it. For me this will be my first e-bike, although I come from a motorcycle and mountain biking background. What actually sold me was when I phone their help number to find out more information, the owner answered my call and I spent over 20 minutes discussing what options I should get. The only issue I have, is that I have to wait another ~4 more weeks for the bike, I'm thinking the wait will be worth it.
Due to a change in circumstance, I had to cancel an order for a Five Star. They were very easy to contact and quickly cancelled my order and refunded my card. I was impressed with their service.
Same here. I canceled my 5 star order, and the money was credited back to my credit card the next day. I canceled because of how rapidly these bikes are improving. I don't want to get today's bike when tomorrow's bike will likely offer more for the same price. In a way, this competition between wired and ecells has caused me to purchase NEITHER bike, i might just get a motorgoat v3 with extra battery 😂
@@randallhack4477I got the motor v3. This is just the beginning for what we can mod on it. You can get an extra battery not even the one offered on the site. North east battery has a bigger battery and you can add a 100amp controller.
I have the Wired, and the frame is not flexible. The loose caboose is caused by the pivot joints, and is likely on all of the Wired bikes. Are you expecting them to replace ALL bikes they delivered? I’m an engineer and race car driver/builder, and I barely notice the “flex”. That being said, if it is your only bike, you likely wouldn’t even notice it. But it will surely show up in a head to head comparison. I ride mine pretty hard and do not feel unsafe at all. Nothing on the bike has failed, and until it does, I’m a satisfied customer.
Steve from Wired is total trash. He shipped out a bunch of faulty messed up dangerous bikes and will not honor his "warranty" instead he bullies and insults customers. I've seen so many examples of his nasty emails to people to see he is a weak little baby. Just because your bike seems ok now doesn't mean he isn't screwing other people over.
Good to know. I'm guessing he's used to a hard tail and the flex is the suspension. As for strength, if its not breaking, its fine. This guy sounds ridiculous, think he's mad they didn't listen to his expert advice. As for warranty if its not broke and working as designed its not a warranty issue.
I like the way you think. Step-thru design is going to flex with moderate weight on the rear rack. I have 3 step-overs for now. I'm almost 67, car less, ebike only. It's not dangerous in pedal assist 1 or 2. People are riding too fast. I pedal 80% of the time. Thanks.
5:55 I am so extra glad now that decided to upgrade my existing 48V 17Mah full suspension / hydraulic brakes with a 52V 20MAH battery instead of getting the wired freedom. The downgrade of rear suspension & frame performance would have been very bad.
Is it only me that loves both bike. I wish both bikes have a baby i can buy lol. Personally if the ecell 5 stars came with dual battery, id have gotten it but i opted for the wired instead. Everything came out to 2274. But the dual battery option is not available to the regular 5 stars. You have to get the dual star for 2695 [2595 with 100$ coupon off] even though its with more accessories and upgrades. But hey. If this is what both companies are giving us now, who know what their competition might give us in like 3-4 years. Glad to see 2 companies pushing themselves and WE get to benefit by having 2 outstanding options to choose from.
and not east to stay profitable in this greedy capitalistic economy, i love my ecells but i do my own work, not any gifts from manufacturer other than a great initial product
Imagine how easily Wired could have handled this issue. Of all the bikes they've sold and they've got one guy with an engineering and fabrication background who's not satisfied, so they tell him to pound sand. What a bastard company. Give the guy a return label, charge him a 5% restock as a courtesy and let the customer dust his hands off. Instead, it's piss on you, weirdo! Hey, Wired obviously has been successful, take what's been learned, embrace valid criticisms and make the version 3.0 even better. That's how to handle it, not like the way Gary was treated.
Sorry that happened to you sir this is what makes me nervous about buying an e-bike. I’m retired and don’t have the funds like I used to. I enjoy these videos also I enjoy researching items before I pull the trigger. Again sorry this happened to you. I get it !
Ecells bikes are high quality but they can't keep up with customer care, so get one but care for it yourself, i love my 2020 Ecells 20" Super Monarch AWD 1500w
I purchased a Dual Crown Super Monarch Limited Edition 19' and have had it since April 2021. I live in St Petersburg Fl and I took a road trip in my van to Southern California and Northern and then to Colorado. I now have 7400 miles on my bike and I love this bike. I have not had any issues with this bike and would recommend E-CELLS bikes. For me the price and quality are well worth the money. Thanks for sharing!
I bought my Wired Freedom 2024 edition in March of this year. I haven't had it off road, so I never experienced your problem. As far as customer service goes, I made a mistake due to autofill and I caught it and emailed Wired, and they got back to me immediately. My experience with them has been wonderful. Warranty issues may be a different story. If I had to return mine I could take it back to the company because I live close enough. I was also impressed that I ordered my Wired Freedom on a Saturday online and it was delivered early Tuesday morning. It was like ordering from Amazon. LOL I didn't know about eCell when I bought my Wired Freedom.
My father owns A wired and has a terrible shake in his bike. It has the shock in the middle. Dealing with customer support with smaller companies was absolutely terrible. IT was basically "Your problem now" The owner??? (or someone at that near level) pick up on a Sunday, told me didnt have time to talk because he was out to eat, so i question why he was even bothering picking up the call, shortly after arguing he told me to take it to my local bike shop to get looked at. There's a short on my youtube of how bad it is.
Good grief! I just watched the Short on your channel. That bikes looks like it's about to fall apart. Amazing. So glad I canceled my Wired order and bought the Ecells instead. Amazing.
Not that I would defend the Wired Freedom, but keep in mind the eCells also has "the shock in the middle". The big difference is the cantilever plates which connect the shock to the rear wheel are thicker on the eCells, and have the potential to be more rigid.
Sadly because Wired completely screwed this customer and E-Cells has done a great job improving the bike and the customer loves it. Maybe Wired can learn how to treat customers
Did wired shit in your sandwich or something? Totally understand a customer having a bad experience and I feel for the man...but 1 bad experience does not a scandal make
Thats basically what it is. Its tragic we have two competitors benefitting consumers yet one side trashes another to be in front. Soon we will have real comparisons, not someone who bought what was available at the time and then bought something else later, but people testing these bikes. Citizen cycle said there's differences in suspension as well. There is a contingent who awhile back said the CEO of wired didnt even exist. This seems a similar style of approach. Might that bike have been a lemon? Possibly. But everyone I've read and my own experience has been good from wired. There is no parts and assembly warranties, its parts only, we either do it ourselves or find a shop and pay for their labor.
Thanks! Due to this video I cancelled my Wired Freedom order yesterday ($2,249 shipped, delivery a month or more away) and ordered a e-cells ($1,795, they have a 4th of July sale [$200 off]. Expected to ship late this week or early next week, they ship FedEx. They can be reached on the phone, the couple times I called someone picked up each time!! Very nice folks.
@@StayConnectedEV My Five Star arrived on Thursday (July 11), my friend (who happens to be a bike tech) and I put it together. On Friday I took it out for over 28 miles around town. It's awesome! I'm so glad I saw this video, thanks again!
Yes, educate your customers. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO TIGHTEN YOUR BOLTS! ON THE EDUCATION NOTE: Stay away from ecells! They will not be around long. If you have ordered an ecell bike, good luck getting your money back when you never receive it!
I have the 2024 Wired with the dual batteries. It must be the new one? I have put 500 trouble free miles on it and it has been great. It does not have this wobble like the green one in the video, but it does have the death wobble when you release both of the handle bars. I think it is well designed for the most part. The speed, range, and comfort are all 5 stars. The seat sucks for my fat butt and bad spine, so I changed that. I did also adjust the middle shock with a high pressure pump and that helped a lot with overall stability. (There are videos out there on how to do this.) It sucks you had this issue. I think the Wired bike with the dual batteries is fantastic, but the customer service interface is rusty. Wired does not make it easy to get a hold of them. If they work on the customer service end (and I hope they do), They could really have a great product.
where’s the link to roger’s flex video? he said he got the gloss black one and the one at 6:25 is emerald green. someone is shaking it in that tiny video but hard to see any flex. reminds me of that rubber pencil trick. for transparency good to put all the cards on the table. thanks.
The recently updated Wired Freedom on pre order will have a thicker linkage. Peaks at 3000watts and comes with extra 15ah battery for no extra charge, I mean thats a 35ah bike for $2000... Cant beat that. I see them listening to customer complaints so I guess we will see if this updated version holds the same issues.
Bikes are on pre-order, I'm sure there has to be a period where they stop selling the old model to sell the new one right? And if I'm correct they wanted him to pay to ship it back and he didn't want to which I would understand if your claim falls under warranty. @ E cells, looks like the linkage was a lot different on their new cruiser maybe the freedom might have something similar. I'm not biased I'm between both bikes myself, just putting out new information. But while I have you update it to a 72v platform and It wouldn't be a question who wins.
I've read that the rear suspension shock is loaded for a rider who's under two hundred pounds. They say you increase the pressure in the shock to accommodate a heavier rider. I think that will fix the problem.
@@StayConnectedEV Were you able to type that with a straight face? Your AFFILIATE links are in the description. You are doing nothing more than trash talking the competition.
I changed my mind. I am not waiting months for a bike. E-cells sucks on delivery. But Their bikes are wonderful for sure. But I refuse to wait a life time for one. E-Cells should always at least have one of their awesome bikes in stock.
My favorite option is the 24 inch wheels. At 5.5 this allowed me to get away from the typical folding ebikes with 20 inch wheels. This is going to be the ultimate upgrade for me I can't wait!!
The frame forms the backbone of the e-bike, connecting all other parts and components. It must be strong and rigid enough to handle the stresses and loads of riding, especially running at speed. The rear component must be solid; otherwise, instability transfers to the front, causing "death wobble." I don't recommend riding without hands, but seeing Tom Chitwood riding on our rear rack pedaling with no hands at speed left me more than smiling. I was even high-fiving the cat.
@@heavyhitter8972 I'd be interested to hear your experience. I just received a dual star, and weigh 260. Next weekend I'm headed to the DTE single track mtb trails in Chelsea MI to run it through the paces. If it survives that over a few weekends I will be impressed.
My family had the same issue with the wired freedom bike. We told support and they pretty much acted like they never heard of the issue. They gave us a hard time at first but then they were willing to return it but I would have to pay the shipping differences as well if I remember correctly. I didn’t think that was right because it is not my fault the bike was having stability issues.
Steve from Wired is total trash. He shipped out a bunch of faulty messed up dangerous bikes and will not honor his "warranty" instead he bullies and insults customers. I've seen so many examples of his nasty emails to people to see he is a weak little baby.
Wired is designed for the average size person...not good if you weigh more.. Wire customer service S ucks.....They do not care about you... They did not design the bike and have no idea about the details...... Wired are just middle men who just want to peddle (ha) the bike.....I have 600 miles of aggressive riding on trails on my wired and it seems to be ok....I'm not happy with wired as a company
$2,095.00 E-Cells 2025 Five Star ll E-Bike™ 1500w 60v 20AH total price includes shipping! I love the 24 inch tires with gold rims are so bad ass! and huge headlight. I think E-CELLS Have better quality batteries. I decided on E-CELL MY CHOICE. But back order 3 months on all orders. So for that Ecells sucks
I own an E-CELLS Super Monarch Crown 2 wheel drive, 2 battery, dual suspension version of the E-CELLS 5 Star. Comparing my bike's frame and excellent components to other 2 wheel drive, 2 battery bikes I feel that, even at the $5,100. price, it is the "best for the money" in its EMTB cargo class.
i agree, my 2020 super monarch 1500 awd, after fitting to me and upgrading the rear battery failure is the best bike i still see and it would cost the same as yours today to match about 5000-5500. i love it
Do you mean there are other EMTBs for over 5 K? Likely so. A bad example is the 2 wheel drive RAMBO Megatron for around $7,000.+ !! Why in God's name would you pay that money when the E-CELLS Super Monarch Crown, for thousands less, is HIGHER QUALITY with MORE FEATURES plus BETTER DESIGN?
Hi rodger, I'm glad that you found a bike that you're happy with. I guess I'm lucky because I've had nothing but exceptional service directly from the CEO of wired with my first bike the 2023. So much so, that I bought the 2024 with its additional upgrades that I was planning to do myself to my 2023. I have not noticed nor been affected by the wobble etcetera that you are experiencing with your wired. So again maybe I'm lucky.
EDIT START-The Owner/Operator of ecells has been clear that he designed these basic models for folks like senior citizens and those with some minor mobility issues that may struggle with a traditional bicycle on some terrain. He didn't necessarily intend the design to be used for regular single track use. My intent here isn't to throw shade on ecells. I want them to succeed and improve. END EDIT. Ecells dual star owner here. I'm happy so far with my purchase, but I know that I will break the rear suspension and rear frame bars at some point. That said, I need to point out that the general design of the suspension on both the wired and ecells can be an inherently difficult system to design for rigidity if the designer isn't paying attention to best practices. I believe that both fall into the Horst Link (4-bar) category which has seen a lot of use and best practices evolution in design since the 90s. Getting that geometry to the point of basic non-binding "functionality" in autocad or solidworks is 5% of the total engineering challenge required to make a stable and robust system. All of those pivot points and the individual size/length/geometry of those materials and components linking them together is the design challenge. The pivot connections are more critical than anything else. If I'm being subjective, I think both ecells and wired missed the mark with the inception of this suspension design. Especially given the weight of the bike. All of the pivot connections need to be addressed. They are under-engineered for both bikes. It is unfortunate. All of the pivot points are suspect. One of the biggest design problems that I see with both of these bikes is the length of the rocker linkage connecting the shock to the rear seat stay. The distance between those two connection points is insanely long. That introduces so much more leverage and non linear stress and flex to an already under-engineered pivot construction. If you follow the evolution of MTB rear suspension, you will notice that those designs lead to the shortest rocker linkage possible to reduce those forces. It is clear that the designer of ecells has recognized this, and kind of understands this given the changes that were made to the rear suspension design of the Triple Crown. I think they should scrap their suspension design, but every one of their bikes should have those same changes at a minimum.
Every one of the pivot points impose a fit and strength tolerance stack up for flex across the entire system. This was a poor initial design system for the application combined with a poor execution of that. These bikes are more motorcycle than they are bicycle. There is a reason why motorcycles don't use Horst suspension layouts. It is a bad idea for function and safety.
I recently got booted from e-cells group and still don't know why, I think it may have being because, I had mentioned something about a TH-camrs channel, he was making a comparison between his Wired freedom and the 5 star and started talking negatively of e'cells owner I remember making a comment on that youtubers channel about him making comparison without actually riding or owning a 5 star of his own and I mentioned this in the e-cells group, next day I was booted and I just recently purchased a dual star. Not sure if they took it as criticism or thought I was trying to instigate a fight between the two companies? I still think that I made the right choice in the ecells booted or not booted! Ecells owner is very hands on and communicates with his customers, his quik to answer questions and further more there are alot more options! Ecells has a 2 year warranty and free shipping !
@@StayConnectedEV It's understandable! not complaining or bitter about it, tension are high and ecell owner very passionate guy, that was the very reason I bought ecells, luv hearing content and different opinions👍
Yeah I understand. I always want to have open dialogue in these comments with my viewers. You guys made this channel what it is. I love discussing topics and will have more videos like this one to come. If there is anything I can do I’m here
I can concur. I had the very same experience as yours. Purchased a Dual Star, and was very excited about it. Joined the FB group, and was quickly kicked out just for mentioning that I also have a Wired Freedom (my first E bike) and that I enjoyed it! I was flabbergasted. I even talked to David Cleveland about it and he said he would look into it, but I was never accepted back. Censorship is never a good thing, especially when it is done in order to promote a product. I didn't cancel my order. Hopefully I will get my bike soon. I think E cells IS a much better company then Wired, but I tell you, I am so sick and tired of this stupid infantile rivalry between these two companies. Let the consumer decide and leave us be!
lol, true story here...I literally placed an order for a wired freedom, watched this post 20 minutes later then canceled my order and ordered Five Star. I feel like I dodged a bullet. Thanks.
There are no significant differences for the thickness of the rear frame members between these two bikes. Rear suspensions like this are going to flex compared to a hard tail. With 26 x 4 inch fat tires, the addition of a rear suspension is overkill as most people who buy either of these two bikes are not going to go off road with them (trail riding) or take gravel or dirt roads very often. The most you would ever need is a suspension seat post with a hard tail fat tire ebike. So Roger really had no warranty claim for the Wired Freedom bike because that's how these particular rear suspension bikes are.
Hello Roger, I work in customer service for a mid sized company in New York. May I ask you what Wired Freedoms policy is regarding warranted work? Do they state they pay for all shipping or do they imply the customer has to pay to ship the bike back to them?
Based on my experience and extensive research, it's best to stick with a local, well-established dealer or distributor, Otherwise, you could end up dealing with a company that offers no accountability and is located in the middle of nowhere. Forget about the warranty or getting replacement parts. Just take a look at what happened with the Juiced bike.
a few weeks or months waiting time?? i had my seeker26 within a week!!! for 1100 bucks ... added a 2nd battery, adjustable stem, softer seat and street tires... about 1600 in sum for a dualmotor and dual battery bike in 26 inch, full suspension, hydraulic brakes ... so be it ecells or wired.. both cost a lot more ... and then a long waiting time?!? ok we now see 60v system bikes and mine has "only" 52v ... but with those 26 inch tires its fast enough for my needs (gps proven 38.6mph)
Im not doubting this guy at all, but there is a dude on another Channel, who does serious riding and 500 miles no issues. Having said, that is this not the hardest decision ever? Not between these two bikes but which bike? I did not know know about either of these bikes and ordered a Fiido Titan, everything on the website and the reviews and videos are stellar so i trusted it, well three ride and caput and the customer service is almost non existent. This IS the most important thing, local customer service i cannot stress this enough. If i can get my money back i'm mot likely going with an e cell thanks.
My 2024 Freedom was ordered in APR & was due to ship at end May, then postponed for the bonuses till end June. When it showed up the UPS man asked me to help get off truck its so heavy. The top of the box was ripped off from middle to 1 end with many holes along sides. It looked like a bear attacked it. When I opened it up I immediately saw many scratches in paint. I was bout to put together when I noticed no tool for handlebars or manual to put this together. So I went on their chat help & in the end it came missing manuals, tool,2nd battery charger, touch up paint, headlight, & PEDALS... so they send me the accessory box which took 4 days (mind you I took my vaca from work for the day of the delivery) & its missing the touch up paint. From this point on the Wired customer service chat was unhelpful & rude. I asked them how the batteries work is it frame batt till drained then rear kicks in? & they said it was a 'blendid' function that draws off both... So I told them that i purposely drained my batt to 60% on display & when went to charge both only the rear was at 60% while frame batt was 100%, so its not blending.... I like to pedal so I turn the motor options off (set to 0) & quickly found out that gears 1-6 make the chain skip on every rotation... They told me to take it to a bike shop for a derailer adjustment or watch a youtube vid on how do it myself...2400.00+shipping & this is the product I got & customer service to go with it FUCK WIRED
Steve from Wired is total trash. He shipped out a bunch of faulty messed up dangerous bikes and will not honor his "warranty" instead he bullies and insults customers. I've seen so many examples of his nasty emails to people to see he is a weak little baby.
This has very little to do with wired or five star. This has much more to do with the vast majority of these imports ebikes. They are using entry, level components, frames, etc. He was correct. They are targeting seniors and people that are maybe not so knowledgeable about how well these things can be built. Customer service, it's terrible with them, If you have a problem. I would always suggest paying with paypal as that gives you a very strong voice if you have to return something.
I just ordered a wired and had a great conversation with the owner Stephen. There have been multiple videos on the bike and there have not been anything on the Wired's frame from the videos. I will let you know how it pans out.
So glad I caught this video. I was on the fence. My intention is to do long bikepacking trips, long distances and long duration trips loaded with gear. I can only imagine what would have happened if I put 50 or 75 pound on a wired bike. Definitely going with the 5 star. Thanks for the valuable information.
i got lucky, found a 2020 Ecells Super Monarch AWD 1500w with 70 miles on it.. this year,, after modifying the ride position to fit me and repairing and upgrading bad rear battery and bad front air shock, replacing the seat and mirrors and handle bar setup it is the greatest ev for me, the service from Dave and the crew at Ecells is not good at all, they are just trying to keep up with selling high quality bikes and i am sure that's hard enough! I love this bike, but the 4 months i've been dealing with Dave Cleveland and his crew have been a let down. so nice to see this compared to the Wired and i think the Bakcou is close to the quality too, but don't count on factory help, buy this as a great product and take care of it yourself. I sent a email in April describing a few things including pulsing of the motors in sync or out of sync more accurately and got no response, but now i see he's offering a new Ganfet controller so i think he had been aware of the issue but like a lot of manufacturers won't admit to guilt for fear of going bankrupt trying to stay in profit in business. again I LOVE THIS BIKE but the service after buying is not what it should be..
Right. But it's your video. You're controlling the interview. It's not the other affiliate links that I'm concerned with, it's when one of the bikes in question is affiliated, not both. It seems impossible to find a single video on ecells and wired that doesn't have affiliate links. It creates bias. Same goes for wired.@StayConnectedEV
What Where link you have to confirm Ecells wobble? I never seen it no where I searched but after just a few minutes on wired immediately i seen the complaints on the wobble
Thank you guys so much for making this video. Thank you Roger that helps a lot. I've been actually looking at the wire like you said everybody's been hyping it up and I've been so excited to get it and then I road Aventure. And that was my first electric bike experience, and I enjoyed it. It was amazing, but I still wanted to get a wired because of the hype and I'm pretty sure you just confirmed it and now I will definitely look at other bikes and even maybe the E cell bike thank you again thank you for saving me from a headache
I personally think cells has many people/ TH-cam accounts that post in every wired bike review and make the same statement of how they have a ecell and it so great and Yada yada. I have never seen this type of response or repeated responses on any other bike reviews other then wired and I have been watching ebike reviews on TH-cam for like two years. I personally think excells is trying to sway people interested in wired bikes to ecells with these made up comments.
This is an interesting opinion from one customer, (Credited with posting the original video of the Wired flex problem found in the pivot arm of the rear suspension.) who claims the response from Wired was very bad for sure. Although this is the opinion of one owner it is concerning. I can only speak of my experience thus far with David Cleveland, ECO ECells, who I have spoken to many times now while ordering and reordering my Five Star and the Duel Star option and also ordering the Step Star for my wife. Ratchel, Victoria and David Cleveland have been simply outstanding in my interactions with them over the phone. The speed that this company has upgraded their products and the length they have gone to in supporting their clients has been amazing. (I say this without even receiving my bikes yet.) I feel confident in my selection of products ordered and even more so in the company and people who stand behind them.
Thats awesome! I have spoken to many of them too when I have called in. So glad you feel confident with your decision. This video was very important for a person who might be on the shelf and wants to see both sides.
I wanted to take a minute to thank you both for making this information public. These two E- bikes, the Wired Freedom and the E Cells 5 star have been on the top of my list for some time now but I could not decide which one to purchase, although I admit, I was leaning toward the Wired bike for the very reasons the guest stated. We get excited about shiny fast things and often make the mistake of not looking with a more inclusive view. While ordering the E-Cells five star last night, I was wondering if I was making the best decision. Now i'm certain that I have. Thank you again.......
@@StayConnectedEVI've been riding my five star nearly everyday. I do almost exclusively road riding, but I push that bike very hard. Although the bike came with one wheel where the spokes weren't even tightened at all and last night discovered that the front brake disc screws were loosening, the bike has been rock solid. I've had it up to 43 miles per hour many times and it is as stable as you'd want it to be at that speed. I am absolutely convinced that I bought the right bike of the two.
This was a very interesting and needed comparison from a person who actually has owned and ridden both bicycles. After hearing what he went through, I am happy I decided to go with Ecells. However, he is correct. I have watched tons of TH-cam reviews of the WIRED Freedom and I cannot remember anyone mentioning frame flex - just the speed. Thanks for sharing this information.
Let’s be honest, both of these CEOs are kind of really full of themselves and not somebody you want to be friends with. Why doesn’t somebody do an honest review of the two bikes side-by-side? Is it because there is no difference and they are exactly the same?
I agree with everything Roger stated. I had my first encounter with Steven from Wired e-bikes today and it’s just what customers are saying , Steven is rude he tries to blame the customer for any issues you have with your Wired bike and he doesn’t stand behind the warranty. He says well you didn’t buy the shipping insurance so Wired isn’t going to fix your issues with a brand new freedom ebike that I had delivered just 2 days ago and there was damage to 2 parts on the bike and Steven emailed me and stated that he will not honor the warranty and blames me for not buying the insurance. I paid $275 in shipping cost I shouldn’t have had to buy the insurance and I didn’t. Well all the complaints from other customers about how bad the Wired ebike company is and the way they treat customers is So so true.I wanted to add that in the email I received from Steven he tried to Belittle me and he stated no one would over rule him.
our capitalism is so cutthroat that trying to stay in profit is difficult, i think the Ecells team may have had many battery failures and are just trying to stay profitable and selling great bikes
@@StayConnectedEV what is it you don't agree with in my statement, because i have about 12 interactions with Ecells and have plenty to back up what i am suggesting.
I have the new 2024 Wired Freedom. I should have bought the Ecell 5 Star with 24 inch wheels. I am 5"8 and can barely touch my toes on the ground when sitting on the seat.
I'm listening to other comments and I don't know why people are so critical of this guy. I have no idea and neither does anyone else what this guy's bike was like. But I do know that Wired completely redesigned their bike after this video is made for the 2024 +. I would love to know if the frame has been beefed up, and also the linkage arms. I do know that they made a ton of improvements. Went over to Citizen Cycles channel to get a rundown of all of them, including amazingly a second battery thrown in for no extra charge.
Look at the complaints for the newest version of the bike. They didn’t fix anything and made it worse by putting a battery too far back on the rack. They need fire find a better engineer for their bikes.

I ordered my 5 stars, dual star bike last week, my friend ordered the wired freedom a week before me. I just sent him this video, maybe he can cancel his wired freedom before it comes and get an ecells...
There's a lot of really good looking e.Bikes out right now but because of the performance and battery with the wired even though it doesn't look as cool.I think I might get it because it's definitely the fastest for the money and biggest batter
I got a wired freedom about a month ago and the ride, speed and range is incredible. I have almost 500 miles on it and a 40 to 50 mile ride is very enjoyable.
Every one of the pivot points on both of these bikes impose a fit and strength tolerance stack up risk for flex across the entire system. This was a poor initial design system for the application combined with a poor execution of it. These bikes are more motorcycle than they are bicycle. There is a reason why motorcycles don't use Horst suspension layouts. It is a bad idea for function and safety.
The ceo of ecells has been clear that he designed these basic models for folks like senior citizens and those with some minor mobility issues that may struggle with a traditional bicycle on some terrain. He didn't necessarily intend the design to be used for regular single track use.
@@Merceralex77 but the e-cells welds.....look at the welds....we need a PRO welder to look and chime in on it. They look amateurish, but more importantly, how do those poor welds affect the strength. We need to know what we can't see.

All of the comments in here seem almost like they're paid for. Why not let people leave a comment without the site owner bashing the other bike manufacturer. The over emphasis on one guys story and the total one sided conversations make me not trust anything here.
Very interesting, DAVE. At this point, I have no idea what I’m going to do if you know what I mean. Good thing I have plenty of other bikes to play with
@@StayConnectedEV well that depends on a few variables - as said about range. some got 40 mph others 35 mph A few 44 mph - its a capable ebike, But is top speed that important? Im more concerned about which is built better - will it last? will it be as good to ride day after day? as for Range? I remember a guy told me that Smiles per gallon is what is important to him. gee I kinda have to agree with that :)
Its all really about preference because i have read comments on other channels where they said the owner of ecells was rude and had bad customer service so at the end of the day you have to just teust your gut....i have not seen one person that complained about their wired nor ecells bikes other than now....Que sera sera😂
Looking at both EBikes, cash value I would pick E-Cells. Now, after hearing this man's nightmare, theirs no way I would ever buy Wired. Thank you, to both of you for setting the record straight. There are a lot of EBike manufacturers that have GREAT customer service. Buy from them!! Don't be a victim!! This reminds me of another Ebike brand that for them to make a change in their bikes, a little girl had to die.
I think the issue with the wired bike is and Rogers attempt to get it resolved through warranty claim is that it's not a defect. It's a bad design which I don't believe any warranty covers. So I guess Rogers only course of action is to sell the bike onto somebody else at a reduced price closing the issues. In that way he'll at least recoup some of his money because wired is not going to do anything for him. BTW I had a long talk with David Cleveland the owner/CEO of Ecells after which I ordered a Five Star in orange. David actually called me yesterday, Sunday 6-16-24 to discuss an email I had sent to him about not buying his bike based on some comments made on a couple of websites. He explained this issues he is having by some trolls, as he called them, he believes from the folks at Wired. The bike will be shipped to me in the next couple of days I confirmed today with David's staff member Mary.
The problem with lots of TH-camrs they get bikes for free in exchange for good review on bike, i seen some video long ago where some guy got email from ebike makers that they are willing to give for free in exchange for good word on ebike, for example my friend got aniioki ebike and on TH-cam everyone saying how good it is and can go long distance but never talked about issues, he got bike with some parts broken i mean stuff happens, they send replacement for free also good thing, but the battery died after 1 year + and some othet issues with mottor accureed, so to replace them is not cheap, everyone talks about speed but very little talk about how sturdy components are, are batteries UL certified, is motor good quality etc.. everyone just try to push these bikes with good reviews so people would buy from affiliate link to get money.
I almost also bought the heybike Hero. Just one note, even though wired and ecells use the same frame the name of ecells sounded like it was a Chinese company and the website could have been better built. Shopify does wonders people
Jello…… there is no reason to sell such junk. I’ve been with ECells for quite a while I have bought multiple bikes. The quality, customer service, value, and reliability are beyond compare.
@@StayConnectedEVI just asked about the relationship with Ecells. I am curious. I think it is understandable that might influence video/review. I also understand capitalism and this is not a consumer reports video. Contractor for 40 years. Peace
@@StayConnectedEV So a fully special ordered e cells is stocked? I think you compare apples to apples, not a bike that was out last year. End of last year, but hopefully e cells will also continue to upgrade their offerings as well. What is the name of the new wired bikes? The '25 models? In a competitive market, no one should make old vs new and call it quits. Its just ramping up.
Are we talking about the recently improved swing arm on the Wired Freedom? My brother bought one of these bikes after destroying the suspension on his previous e-bike and absolutely loves it. He rides almost exclusively on trails. And up until this video I've only heard good reviews regarding Wired's customer service. I think you've got two good options here. I certainly wouldn't make a judgement based on one apparently butt-hurt video reviewer.

That is kind of the point. Way too many channels promoting bikes that were given a demo bike (Wired included). It is really the only way some of these people have 20+ bikes. But head to head comparisons are helpful to some degree. Just be wary of behind the scenes deals promo deals.

@@StayConnectedEV I am too! Really hoped for more. Also noticed that they have an F rating from Better Business Bureau.
Thank you im glad to hear this!

Not that I would defend the Wired Freedom, but keep in mind the eCells also has "the shock in the middle". The big difference is the cantilever plates which connect the shock to the rear wheel are thicker on the eCells, and have the potential to be more rigid.
This video seems more like a commercial for the E-cells Five star.
Sadly because Wired completely screwed this customer and E-Cells has done a great job improving the bike and the customer loves it. Maybe Wired can learn how to treat customers

Citizen cycle said there's differences in suspension as well. There is a contingent who awhile back said the CEO of wired didnt even exist. This seems a similar style of approach.

(There are videos out there on how to do this.)
It sucks you had this issue. I think the Wired bike with the dual batteries is fantastic, but the customer service interface is rusty. Wired does not make it easy to get a hold of them. If they work on the customer service end (and I hope they do), They could really have a great product.

Did you see citizen shake the pivot? Making it thicker won't stop the wiggle.

It is a bad idea for function and safety.
you know i have noticed shorter linkages recently, hmmmm, may be a valid observation, thank you

Wired has upgraded the freedom for 24 @ no extra cost, maybe competition is a good thing for everybody in the end product.
So Roger really had no warranty claim for the Wired Freedom bike because that's how these particular rear suspension bikes are.
i don't feel any flex in my Ecells at all and me and my cargo have been close to 350 pounds
Witch one has cruise control?
Wired has it not sure about the other one
Hello Roger, I work in customer service for a mid sized company in New York. May I ask you what Wired Freedoms policy is regarding warranted work? Do they state they pay for all shipping or do they imply the customer has to pay to ship the bike back to them?
He stated this answer to your question.
Good points
a few weeks or months waiting time?? i had my seeker26 within a week!!! for 1100 bucks ... added a 2nd battery, adjustable stem, softer seat and street tires... about 1600 in sum
for a dualmotor and dual battery bike in 26 inch, full suspension, hydraulic brakes
... so be it ecells or wired.. both cost a lot more ... and then a long waiting time?!?
ok we now see 60v system bikes and mine has "only" 52v ... but with those 26 inch tires its fast enough for my needs (gps proven 38.6mph)
You’re welcome. Always remember to use our code.
I’m so sorry to hear they did this to you!!! This is unacceptable.
Steve from Wired is total trash. He shipped out a bunch of faulty messed up dangerous bikes and will not honor his "warranty" instead he bullies and insults customers. I've seen so many examples of his nasty emails to people to see he is a weak little baby.
The smartest thing to do here is switch the suspension design to a beefy single-point swing-arm. Might be ugly, but it works.
You never showed Roger video
Yes in comment and in my video
This has very little to do with wired or five star. This has much more to do with the vast majority of these imports ebikes. They are using entry, level components, frames, etc. He was correct. They are targeting seniors and people that are maybe not so knowledgeable about how well these things can be built. Customer service, it's terrible with them, If you have a problem. I would always suggest paying with paypal as that gives you a very strong voice if you have to return something.
I just ordered a wired and had a great conversation with the owner Stephen. There have been multiple videos on the bike and there have not been anything on the Wired's frame from the videos.
I will let you know how it pans out.
unfortunately you placed a pre-order since they have no stock and still engineering the bike. Good luck!

On the newest wired freedom they beefed up the 4 link suspension!! Added more metal to stiffen the frame!!
Wonder why? Might as well just order a Five Star since they are shipping and have inventory.
Why'd they do that if there was no problem with it?
Exactly
DONT TRUST STEVE FROM WIRED, no matter what I will never buy from them. Hes such a maggot
i got lucky, found a 2020 Ecells Super Monarch AWD 1500w with 70 miles on it.. this year,, after modifying the ride position to fit me and repairing and upgrading bad rear battery and bad front air shock, replacing the seat and mirrors and handle bar setup it is the greatest ev for me, the service from Dave and the crew at Ecells is not good at all, they are just trying to keep up with selling high quality bikes and i am sure that's hard enough!
I'm always skeptical with these comparison videos when there is an affiliate link. Conflict of interest.
Actually its not my story lol.. I have affiliate links for 20 other bike companies that compete with E-Cells...lol
@@Vindbm your point makes zero sense. If someone wants to meet with me and do a show here that has a wired lets do it.
What do you guys think of the new dual star wobble issue? I was thinking of ecells due to the free shipping but they’re now getting the wobble too.
@@johnnightly5281 there is no wobble on the dual star.

Ok
Ok
@user-hy1dy2tp8z what are you saying
Great video! Enjoy Roger...ride safe!
Thans Bruce!
Im very happy to hear this video was helpful!!!
You are more than welcome! I thought it would be a very important interview and glad it has been helpful to some.
@user-hy1dy2tp8z unfortunately i was shocked how bad it is
I'd like to see the ecells available in the UK.
I could see the E-Cells Five Star going for £1,495 up to £4,100 GBP if sold in the UK.
Let’s be honest, both of these CEOs are kind of really full of themselves and not somebody you want to be friends with. Why doesn’t somebody do an honest review of the two bikes side-by-side? Is it because there is no difference and they are exactly the same?
Because Wired has denied us testing any of their bikes. Needless to say how many reviews have you seen on the new bike from Wired.
Certainly a TH-camr has done this?
@@StayConnectedEV What do you mean by "denied". Aren't you free to do what you want?
Glad to hear it thanks for your support.

Sadly hes pushing the dates to august now. The bike he had was prototype too. You can get that bike right now with E-Cells
Look at the complaints for the newest version of the bike. They didn’t fix anything and made it worse by putting a battery too far back on the rack. They need fire find a better engineer for their bikes.

defintely send him the video and let him make decision.
That's exactly what I did: canceled my WIRED order and purchased the Ecells 5 Star instead. Glad I did.
There's a lot of really good looking e.Bikes out right now but because of the performance and battery with the wired even though it doesn't look as cool.I think I might get it because it's definitely the fastest for the money and biggest batter
Just fyi. You can get the dual battery from wired. Is cheaper and performance wise
Nice commercial for E-cell.
Oddly its a customer of Wired..lol
Glad we didnt copy WIRED's frame. Lol
Not sure how anyone could even think that.
Cause wired is more well known. However they "stole" e-cells frame for sure. Both seems good but e-cells looks definitely stiffer, in a good way

Wired agreed it was defective though in writing.
Well thats why i thought this was a good idea to let Roger speak.
I watch tailhappytv reviews and both seem like decent bikes
I almost also bought the heybike Hero. Just one note, even though wired and ecells use the same frame the name of ecells sounded like it was a Chinese company and the website could have been better built. Shopify does wonders people
