  • Yale nightlatch/Snib button/ Instructions on use. This is a short video on how this rim cylinder lock mechanism works. Note this type of lock should be used with a mortice dead lock or dead bolt since this lock type is low security. Hopefully this information is useful for you if something related to a night latch is causing you trouble.

    The arrow you can see on the back plate is intended to assist alignment by aligning it with the mark on that centre disc (that rotates)

    Thanks very much for doing this video. I have a similar unit where the spring slipped off and was able to fix it because of this video, so you've just saved me €22 on a replacement unit.

    Thank you for your review on the lock, it allowed me to repair mine. I took it off the door to grease it and unknowingly jiggled the mechanism, even though it worked for the first 3-4 days. Luckily someone was in when it eventually broke. Thanks to this video I got inside it and put it back together properly.
    Thanks again!

    Very bad job those with the Oval shape! Just put a Stick in the letterbox and push the oval part to open :0( better with the round shaped type.
    Very Common attacked about Belfast years ago.

    i just fitted a new one and the question does the key supposed to turn both clockwise and anticlock wise to open door? Because when i turn the key clockwise the lock doesnt come back out itself. Same thing from the inside aswell. Help

    • @BD90..
      @BD90..  ปีที่แล้ว

      If yours is identical to this one, it should be able to turn clockwise and anti clockwise when you are not using the little switch to lock the bolt outside of the latch or to hold inside the latch. But if you can turn the key in either direction you should be able to unlock it regardless.

    Would you recommend this for the back door of a garage? There is currently an old style dead bolt on there and how would you recommend installing it? 😀

    • @BD90..
      @BD90..  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      These locks are considered low security on their own. They are as good as a key in knob cylinder lock. I would use the instructions that come with the hardware when you buy it. They always seem to come with instructions on how to install them. There are also videos by hardware stores and Yale on TH-cam explaning the install too.
      If your dead bolt is old it might be a different size to new ones.
      If I were you I would replace the dead bolt with a thumb turn dead bolt or better still, consult a couple local locksmiths and get their advice especially if you are based in the US because they would have a better understanding than I. If you are based in the US, you could ask SE Lock and Key on TH-cam because he is friendly and far more knowledgeable on American locks than me. I will leave a link to a install video of this lock if you are interested anyway. th-cam.com/video/4sYECRnAvxU/w-d-xo.html

    Thank you dude, I used this to fix my father-in-law's lock. Me, my partner, and my kid are using his place for a bit, and we would be without a lock in an area with the highest violent crime rate in my country. Using this video has helped us sleep soundly at night 👍

      You need some dead locks not just a standard nightlatch.

    • @BD90..
      @BD90..  ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely, and use the deadlock. Alot of folks have a deadlock and are too lazy to use it which defeats the purpose

    Does the lock still work if u dont line the arrows up for the double locking feature

    • @BD90..
      @BD90..  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it works as normal but without the ability to deadlock the latch.
