    Surely you are here to clean the mess you've done so hold on the annotate icon for 3 seconds and click annotate eraser

      I have the literal opposite problem. My annotations don't show up at all, and I don't know why.
      Edit: I had to enable the Annotations in the overlay menu. Easy fix!

    Thank you so much! I was going nuts trying to figure out why my annotations kept disappearing. Turns out I accidentally hit 'play animation' and that caused it to create a new annotation keyframe. Thanks to this video I now know a lot more more about how to use this tool.

    You haven't talked about editing of the existing annotations. (Say you want to scale everything up?) I was using them as construction lines, yet after bringing in a google map, it seems I was off by about 35%. So I scaled up my model, but my annotations need scaled. I'd hate to erase them and redraw. Just trying to model my house for future remodeling previews. :-) (Amazing what being stuck inside all the time can make one do!)

    Great video! 2 questions:
    1. Once I've written various text notes on the same pencil layer, can I grab select portions of my writing and move it on x/y
    2. Can I hand draw animations going frame by frame but seeing the previous frame with low opacity so I can trace over it for the next frame?

    • @yourfriendlygamedev
      @yourfriendlygamedev 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. It would benefit you to use the grease pencil instead. Use shift+A to add a grease pencil. With the grease pencil selected in the world outliner, switch from "Object mode" to "Draw mode." Numpad 3 to switch views so you're drawing in 2D. Once the drawing is complete, switch to object mode and move the grease pencil freely in 3D space along whatever axis.
      2. Go into the grease pencil in object mode. Make a material in the materials pane in the bottom right. Select the modifiers, go to "Add Grease Pencil Modifier" and select Opacity.
      For animation, with the grease pencil selected, use the 2D animation tab at the top, or add one if it is unavailable. Now here is the fun part, while the grease pencil is directly in front of your camera, select the grease pencil, hold shift and select the camera so it is the active object, hit "P" and parent the grease pencil to the camera. Now all of your notes will rest directly in front of the camera no matter what. There's all sorts of reasons this is useful.

    I'd like to be able to have annotation on a single frame.
    For example, I have annotation describing something on a single frame, but then the next frame I don't want it there at all or want something else entirely.
    How ?

    Blender really be like "Here's five million tools. Four of them actually do something useful, and all the rest are garbage that you will spend an hour trying to undo. Think you can guess where annotations belong?"

    re 0:52, right-clicking to end a polygon seems to be buggy in 2.81a. sometimes the last element is erased, sometimes it isn't, and sometimes previous polygons are erased. not a showstopper, but could erase your work.

    When we annotate in an animated scene, how can we edit the annotations per frame. I see they are added per frame, but i dont see any key-frames. Its seems the annotations is a simplified grease pencil object.

    • @RomboutVersluijs

    • @jasonbartlett1357

      Man, I was having the same problem, but one of the comments below mentions that you have to left-click and HOLD/DRAG the mouse button down to get the different options like Annotate Eraser, etc. Any of the icons in the Tool Bar that have a tiny little triangle in the bottom right of the box are tools that have more options if you LMB and HOLD/DRAG! This really drove me nuts and it's not mentioned in the documentation about the particular tool, but in the section about the Tool Bar in general. ( docs.blender.org/manual/en/2.80/interface/tool_system.html#ui-region-toolbar ) It reads:
      "The Toolbar shows buttons for each tool. For tool buttons which have an small triangle in bottom right corner will reveal a pop-up menu when you LMB drag so that you can select other tools of the same group."

    Not kidding I'm googling now 10 minutes how to remove an annotation. The whole tool seems broken, no options like erase or polygon.
    fyi I brute forced it, it's CTRL + left mouse, and you will see the eraser not before you click. WTH Blender.

      I am having the same issue. Something is not right. Thanks for the CTRL+left mouse tip! However, I don't think the tool options are opening for me like they should. I vaguely recall having this feature work better on a 2.8 beta version.

    • @duaneanderson8641
      @duaneanderson8641 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok, I think I figured this out. I just switched preferences from LMB-to-select, to RMB, and then back to LMB. Now, click and HOLD-drag the LMB on a tool... this will open the options. I don't know if toggling preferences is needed, but I am pretty sure that the click-hold-drag thing did not work before toggling preferences.

    • @kaon8185

      @@duaneanderson8641 Yep it's weird they implemented this non-conventional button-hold action. Maybe they had to do this because the remaining 4 users of a long forgotten 3D software would have complained.
