Man we need a MG1&2 remake. Not cause of the remake trend but because every game after these two retconned them. The story of metal gear feels incomplete not being able to experience them in their lore accurate way. Feels like the cumulative story of Big Boss is missing a ending.
yeah man, Gray fox needs more of his story fleshed out too and to make sense of the mix up between po and mg2, because as you say there are plenty of retcons, but I'm sure they could fix the timeline in the msx games, since they would have to build them from the ground up, sticking to the important narratives whilst adding to the story to bring it full circle. and solid snake needs a return. but regarding the retcons, i find it somewhat fitting in the narrative of metal gear, given on misinformation and false fabricated stories, its the beauty that allows the player to decide for themselves what is the more reliable truth in a misleading tale, especially if the patriots are the narrator who mislead everyone in the game
By the time of MG1, I'm sure tech would have improved and Venom's arm would be more convincing. His beret would cover the shrapnel in his head, and Snake would think that Boss got it as a result of firing a missle at him. And maybe we could see an official version of Last Day In Outer Heaven which would be cool
One thing you can tell greatly affected Snake from Zanzibar is watching Gustava die without him able to help her. In MGS1 he's very adamant on not seeing a woman die when talking with Meryl and Naomi and I like to think this is a direct reference to her death. His PTSD from the events of the first 2 games is strong and that moment is impactful if short.
Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake was mind-blowing with plot twists and a story that was so deep, you're locked on. The intriguing part of Zanzibarland was it was once Tselionyarsk and Gronzyj Grad. I so want Kojima do an anime of each Metal Gear title. I wonder now where was Ocelot during that event and where did Gray Fox go post-Outer Heaven.
It's amazing how revolutionary Metal Gear Solid felt, when so much of its gameplay and presentation was already admirably achieved (nearly) 10 years before on an 8-bit platform.
And one thing I'd have loved to see: if Snake went with him, and he saw his face, Madnar would've probably freaked out. I didn't know about that cut call, so that's awesome to learn!
I've got an idea for a few stories, and the rumor Kasler heard? Big Boss being revived by the Snatcher project? I'd think Venom had some cybernetic enhancements, prior to MG1. So while the real Big Boss didn't have any resurrection like that, it WAS a fact. Just from a different point of view.
If MG2 remake was to happen, wonder if the Zoologist Jacob would either be related, or quote works from para-medic, after all if Zanzibar Land is set in the same place as MGS3, then Para-medic would know the wildlife in the area as Snake ate all of it
Kept you waiting huh? A complete remake of these games could remind the world why mgs is the biggest stealth series ever, if properly made. They are so important to the story, big boss boss fight, the whole snake and fox relationship, the gigantic and scary outer heaven and the immense Zanzibar land and so much more, konami should wait tho, we first need to see how they handle delta and other remakes, mg 1 and 2 are no joke

I think the community sadly has lost the plot. They treat the franchise like a sacred bible. They'll even spread a psyop that Kojima wasn't the man behind the franchise all along. Just a hack putting his name on a product. Its shameful.

Gray Fox probably rejoined Big Boss and served as second in command of Zanzibarland from 1995 to 1999
@shirokuma145 good analysis and he was totally loyal to Big Boss after rescuing him twice

we need futurasound to make a return haven't heard anything from him for awhile! hopefully he's doing ok

Arguably the greatest Metal Gear game ever.

It was retconned to be in Tselinoyarsk, yes.
Would make sense as the bridge of sorrow where Gray Fox killed Gustava could be the same bridge where the end of the Virtuous Mission happens in mgs3
