    This thing is awesome! Thanks for covering this Larry. I always wanted a 2nd gen DSM but my 1990 Talon TSi AWD will always have a special place in my heart. I had a 2003 Evo 8 as well so I spent many years behind a 4g63. It is a great motor. Both of my cars were around 400hp daily drivers and they served me well.

      Nothing wrong with a 7 bolt bottom end if you know how to prevent crank walk. The 2G head is also arguably better for road racing.

      @@konigvonpreuen8065 all the local high horsepower guys are running 6 bolts and tell me I’m dumb for wanting to build the 7 bolt already in my car haha. I still wanna try and build it. Any specific recommendations for the 7 bolt other than disabling the clutch switch for start up and not putting a heavy sprung clutch?

    • @MrJessegsx
      @MrJessegsx 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The main benefit to the 6 bolt is just the bigger crank and rod journals. I run a stroked 6 bolt, and never had any issues. Definitely looking at going to a 2G head though. And possibly an Evo III intake manifold.

    • @AlchEm1st88
      @AlchEm1st88 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      7 flywheel bolts as opposed to the earlier "6 bolt" engines which had 6 flywheel bolts. The 7 bolt engines had issues with crank walk due to their thrust bearing design where the 6 bolt engines did not suffer from the same affliction. The later 4G63's that came in the Evo 5-9 (which are also technically 7 bolt engines) and some of the later versions of the old style 7 bolt 4G63 were given a split thrust bearing that solved the issue.
