@@xprettylightsx diamond star motors cars. Basically Dodge/Chrysler and Mitsubishi had a partnership back in 70s where they were the importer for Mitsubishi cars and owned a stake in them. Then the late 80s they had a 50/50 split on a US factory so mitsubishi could produce cars in the US and avoid import taxes, and as a result a few Mitsubishi cars ended up getting rebadged and sold under the Chrysler brands. Hence why the Eagle Talon and eclipse both exist despite being the same car internally. I believe that’s also why the 3000gt has an alternate version called the dodge stealth.

Great Job Miguel. I had 4 Mitsubishi Eclipses in the 1990's. My first one was a base model I got brand new in 1990. Then I had a 1992 GS-T modified to 300 hp. Next a 1994 GSX modified to 350 Hp. My last was when I purchased a brand new 1997 GSX from the dealer. I later modified it and built up the engine to run 25 psi and made close to 500 hp. Running 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds and quarter mile at 11.7 @ 120 mph in a 5 speed manual. This was in 1998!!! Loved that car, but sold it in 2004 when I moved on to other brands. Thanks for the interview and run down memory lane. DSM cars are a labor of love and glad to see them getting the love they deserve. Especially now as they are close to 25 years old!

For those of us that have been in the community for a long time (personally with my 2G DSM for over 20 years) we love these cars. I applaud Miguel for the work he’s done, and continues to do, for and with the community. As for the canyon carving capabilities, from someone that Time Attacks a 2G, I can tell you that these cars potential on the road course is extremely overlooked. Very fast and can handle extremely well. When setup correctly, these cars will rival any modern day car on the circuit.

    Love it!
Makes me appreciate my 1st Gen. and what it was at the time. Back in 1997.. here was my build:
    1992 Eagle Talon TSi
    Automatic
    Upgraded Fuel Pump
    550cc Injectors
    HKS Boost Controller
    HKS Vein Pressure Converter
    HKS GCC
    Cold Air Intake
    20G Turbo ported and clipped
    Upgraded Intercooler
    Larger Throttle Body
    Extrude-Honed Intake Manifold
    Extrude-Honed Head with 3-angle valves
    JE Forged Pistons .030' over
    Block bored .030" over
    ARP Studs throughout
Extrude-Honed Exhaust Manifold w/ External Wastegate
    3" Downpipe
    3" Exhaust
    High-stall Torque Converter
Some of it built by Buschur Racing. It was the only Automatic that was ever known to be built at that time. Buschur was going to try to get me featured in Turbo Magazine, but the car broke and never ran again. Ran 11s without any tuning/dynoing.
The car in this video is great, but my car was likely the coolest sleeper street-driven, street tire 1st gen ever built. No offense, but it doesn't look like much advancement in the past 20 years. I think the DSM 1G/2G platform has even more potential with today's advancements (street driven not the ones people convert to drag cars).

Was 19 at the time so was hard to have the extra money for modding and all that fun.
Had to sell it a few years late but was able to get another 1998 Talon TSI AWD in 2008ish which I was able to mod to my liking. Regret selling both, especially seeing how hard they are to come by now. This definitely brought memories of those fun days. Great vid Zack, thank you!

Yeah, I really loved the Eclipses and Eagle Talons back in the '90s. I started as a fan of the originals with the pop-up headlights featuring really thin marker lights. I got as far as calling people in the classifieds, but I couldn't afford any of the used 1st gens back when I was 16. The 2nd gen had that crazy 3rd quarter window that curves back into the C-pillar arching the opposite way from pretty much every car ever made. They just look like angry little speed pods, and they go like stink. (Also, we don't talk about the 3rd gen...)
Miguel, raise this thing up like 0.75", put on a quality stainless exhaust with a good performance muffler, and take it to a body shop for the bumper/bodykit repairs, so they can plastic-weld the urethane together and clean up the rough stuff like that door for you, you don't even have to paint it yet. Do that, and you'll have something a lot more usable, which means you're more likely to drive it. And that's really the point, right?

They simply do NOT make cars like this anymore. This generation of Eclipse is just simply legendary. That and the 3000GT, EVO....Mitsubishi was on FIRE back then

I always liked the Eagle Talon too, once saw one back in early 00 on the highway with a turbo + N lightning acceleration.

Awesome car! Love everything about this car! I seen pics of this car every where and always wanted to see it in action! This car takes me back when the tuner scene was at its best and love all the sounds this car makes. Thank you Miquel for sharing and thank you smoking tire!
