Its fun watching you guys tearing apart cars I spent 25 years of my life putting together. I worked at DSM/Mitsubishi Motors in Normal IL from Nov 89 to its closure.
They guy planning how to save the old chassis like it would ever get a new fuel tank again is a true DSM lover the way he just assumed the car wasn't going to be thrown away
To all the people working on Ben's car, I highly suggest therapy so DSM 4g63 PTSD doesn't set in and all your dreams are of rusted pieces and parts of Gen 2 Talons and Eclipses, and bad DIY welds, mods, etc. . The build however is highly entertaining, educational, and your team of friends helping you put this project together are great at what they do. Over all this has been highly entertaining. Your team is also quite entertaining showing the patience they have but are quite professional with a good sense of humor. On cam the DSM Legends work well together, can we say possible TH-cam spinoff channel being started the 4 of them?
Way too late for therapy lol. And I would love to do something like that but we’re all pretty spread out. Paul and Kenny are close, and Chris and I are close together, but a lot of space separates all of us.
You know how this series feels? It feels like we are watching a bunch of surgeon doing their masterpiece and saving a dying beast and donating all his organs to someone. What a great build done meticulously. DSM Community has a lot of great people, what a good opportunity to see them all in one project. I am excited to see how this build turns out.
I used to be a DSM guy. Had a 95 TSI and a 97 TSI. I loved the cars but the community is unbelievably knowledgeable. The cars are getting harder to find in good shape and what used to be a cheap/fast car is now not. The guys who stay in it are either the easy come/easy go type, or they are FOR REAL.
Well I'm trying to restore a 99 Spyder and you're right these cars are getting hard to find parts are impossible for restoration so I'm having a custom fabricate some stuff
I've got a 91 rust free 6blt/4blt with new fuel tank.... let me know if y'all know anyone interested in that and a matching parts car and 20+year DSM collection of parts that come with it.
i’ve rewatched this video 3 times already. only being 19 and having an immense love for dsm this video brings me so much joy to one day be able to do this with people this cool n knowledgeable
I’m just here to watch Paul and Jesse…. I have the same relationship with them as they used to have…. Years of chatting online about this stuff. Enjoyable video. Look forward to more.
As someone who also bought an unexpectedly horribly rusted awd car. I wish that I didn't try to fix my existing chassis. I started to fix and patch everything up and it's too late to swap a chassis now because of all the work I've put into it, but I wish I just found a clean one from the beginning:(
I'm only halfway through the video, but I'm guessing after everything is swapped over, someone whispers to the Eclipse unibody, "It's okay. You can rest now", and it totally collapses into rust flakes and shards of JB Weld.
Always had a soft spot for the Eclipse GS (and Talon). Australia wasn't lucky enough to get them ! In fact, there is only 1 road registered Eclipse GS that I know of in the country (might be more now, not sure). Very cool seeing this transformation.
I did this exact thing with my 3000gt, I had a 94 sl that got rear ended so i got a 98 base chassis (although gutted and a rolling shell) and swapped everything from one chassis to another since everything still worked (engine, trans, wiring, interior, suspension etc). It was no easy task but I got it done and to see this happen with a DSM makes me happy. Huge respect for anyone who gets it done, especially having experience having done it myself. It's a little on the extreme side for the usual home mechanic but it just goes to show that it all really just depends on the determination of the owner to keep the car and platform alive. Better to salvage everything and do a body transplant than to let another one of these cars die and rot away because they're a dwindling number and a dying platform.
I never would have guessed that the best part of the DSM community wasn't the rusty, neglected, and abused DSM cars themselves. Thanks for clearing that up for us Ben!
Got to give a mad shout out and props to Paul I believe it was (with the glasses) for having the respect and courtesy and decency to actually think of the next owners troubles building th car .. although it's a scrap car I just feel he deserves the respect and recognition for that as it is a dying species to see someone so courteous to think of the next guy ... peace and love all keep it rad stay safe and build on l8z famz and keep having fun
I know this is a quick swap but I'd personally would LOVE to see this beauty's suspension fully powerder coated/painted and renewed with new stuff. There's something about a fresh suspension that's clean and upgraded that just feels amazing not just driving it.
Absolutely loved this video. Awesome personalities awesome characters. You guys are funny and informative. I’d love to see you all these guys back on your channel soon.
Love how one of the guys was talking about how great it is to work with guys that have worked on DSM's as much as him, then the next shot is him looking at the SRS module under the console and calling it the ABS module. The 2G DSM's that had ABS had the module mounted under a funky plate on the passenger footwell.
This brings back memoires I had a 1995 eagle talon and I liked it over the Eclipses it had the same body but the different bumper/lights and wing were different and made it stand out.
My buddy charles had one at 450WHP (Lowboost tune) and built for 700WHP, rode in it once when he had it finished and to this day its still the fastest, most scariest automobile i've rode in, its been 10 years already, he just sold it for supercheap this year
I don't know how tough it is so.. but I thought it will be interesting to see you guys build your own tubular chassis to replace the rotten "DSM" one, seems like the perfect opportunity for more unique content.
They don't even need to be garage kept. To be completely honest its a matter of luck. My dads 03 durango rusted away and it was garage kept and washed every 2 weeks. My 99 dakota is sitting in the driveway torn apart and the only rust on the entire truck is the fenders.
@@jerodwolford2743 I have to agree with you on that, though I don't live anywhere near PA. I had one 97 Civic which was always outside parked next to apartment building its whole life and had just some minor rust on fenders, after that one I bought one which was garage kept since new and washed regularly, sold it last year for dirt cheap because everything was completely rusted and falling apart on it. Same year, same engine, same trim even almost same mileage and so much difference between them.
Any car in the rust belt, even subarus and mustangs, can look pristine if you do your part for the car. It isn't the environment's fault, it's the owners
New Eclipse merch at nocapp.printify.me/products
Or any used car from the north lol.
did yall get permission to use the Kum & Go rights?? If so that's absolutely sick because I live near where kum & go was founded
Good job on the Kum & Go shirt, now that they were bought out by Maverick, and will no longer exist.

BEN. You should call your car BDSM for BENS DSM
😂
This needs more likes, then he might actually consider it.
I would buy that shirt
More like Ben's$. 😂😂😂
that acronym couldn't possibly have any other meanings
So Ben can say he’s spread eagle now.
This is literally made me laugh out loud. Haha!
🤣🤣🤣
This man deserves some half priced merch for that one. 👏🏾
😂
😂 😢
Bad joke and it was funny. (:

Oh wow!!! That’s so cool! Thank you for your part in bringing these cars to us!!!
Was that wiper assembly installation up to factory specification?
@@bubferner2146 it was. Absolutely lmaoo
The real question is, do you work at Rivian now?? Bet it's probably a little different than how Mitsubishi operated haha!
I do not work at Rivian.

Ben really assembled the DSM Avengers 🫡
That wastegate black history month joke had me dying lol

perfect delivery and stayed dead serious too lol
the delivery was exceptional!

Wow y'all went all out! Great team you had assembled for this. DSM/MMC friends are good friends. Lifesabishi's wide body is craaazy.
Every Saturday, I wake up and watch G&G while I make myself a latte. It's better than Saturday morning cartoons.
Unfortunately I've already had mine before the vid came up.
Funny story, that's exactly what I'm doing right now
I love my saturday morning G&G

So cool seeing this! My first car was a 98 Eclipse. Great memories, I love seeing that a few of these remain.
Everyone has such great chemistry and on-screen personalities.
This video also needed Jafromobile's touch and expertise. The OG DSM Guru

Yes and you hear me correct myself after. Been a while since I’ve been around the stock interior of a 2G.
the chapter names in this video are great. super concise names to really help find different parts of the swap in the video
they need to fire the kid editing these
Does anyone else read the chapter titles? Pure gold.

As a Mitsubishi driver myself i really like this. In the country where i live you rarely see an Eclipse. Looking forward to the rest of the build!!

Credit to the Bro's that can tackle colossal jobs like this. I'm just surprised no bullets were found in the car !
It'll be a good car, Ben.
The morning uploads before work are so dang nice.
The way everyone introduced themselves made it sounds like a DSM intervention 💀
Love how unique the mr2 and now the eclipse are as projects, keep it up!

The chemist in the team for this build is great! This build series I think will be such a silver lining to the initial experience of buying a shitbox
Awesome to see new life being breathed into a DSM and so many DSM addicts chipping in on this project!
I bought the cleanest silver 2g eclipse gsx a few months ago and put it away immediately for winter I can’t wait to drive it
