I do know he's telling the truth. I've been off grains, wheat, pasta and sugar for almost two years now. I wish I had known this 30 years ago. It took me awhile to come to this conclusion but it only made more sense as time went by: It's only normal that our day-to-day habits can either make us or break us health-wise.

Going carnivore changed my quality of life to a degree I cannot put into words.
I'll say this, before I changed to a carnivore diet I thought stomach pain, gas, bloating and constipation was a normal part of life, they are not!
Decades of discomfort I could have avoided.

Butter is easy, I can source that, meat not so.
Although even the quality is probably better than most American meat.
Where I'm located we generally get Aussie or NZ beef and lamb.
Pork I just take my chances.
Eggs are usually duck eggs and most of those are free range here, the ducks get to forage.
I was thinking about raising my own chickens for a bi-yearly butcher and freeze.

It's about the O3:O6 balance anyway, and I eat sardines, salmon and mackerel regularly.

Now imagine what can 5 weeks and 5 months or beyond...of staying away from sugars and refined carbs can do!! I can relate to you regarding the difficulty of staying away from rice (as its pretty much an asian staple). I had 2 extremely painful bouts of this acid reflux a few years ago and then decided..that was it...i cannot keep on suppressing these with antacids only to flare up again when i stopped taking them. I scoured hundreds of articles and an equal number of videos on TH-cam and internet. Went cold turkey for flat 6 months on and stayed on my egg based keto diet along with Intermittent Fasting (i wasn't a meat eater then). The transformation was instantaneous and Amazing..to say the least.!! Since 2018, I haven't been on ANY medication..(ZERO medication including the mildest one that i call as crocin or any other antipyretic)...touch wood.
The first 2-3 days were uncomfortable..but my desire to get rid of these acid refluxes was stronger than my discomfort....
Since then Intermittent Fasting has been my backbone and mantra for health. I do indulge in carb delicacies (fortunately..i have zero sugar addiction..my inclination is more towards the other disguised forms of sugar..rice) . However i am low Carb 80 percent of the week and will go easy on the rest 20 percent..my aim is a 100 percent attempt to be on low carb though as i know that the 20 percent addiction..is.. still an addiction!!
      Good luck to you

The following is copied from the Multiple sclerosis webpage. "Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is very common, and most people are exposed to it in childhood, generally with mild or no symptoms. In adolescence and adulthood, it can cause infectious mononucleosis, a disease that increases the risk of later developing MS. The virus stays inactive in the body throughout a person’s lifetime and has been linked to certain cancers and autoimmune diseases. EBV can be reactivated by a trigger." My younger sister had MS. She contracted mononuleosis when she was four years old. Her MS physicians suspected that she started develop MS when she was still in middle school. There may be other triggers such as low vitamin D. A high carb diets makes every disease worse.

I was vegetarian for 36 years. For thirty of those years, I had GERD. About two years ago, I was diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus and Schatzki's Ring. In September of 2020, I fumbled my way into low carb. Within 3 weeks of eliminating starchy foods and sugars, the GERD was gone. The Gaviscon that I ate like candy to fight the stomach acid was loaded with sucrose. I had to stop the Prevalite (used to curtail IBS diarrhea) very early on. My intentions when I started were to burn off 30 pounds. It has taken months to figure things out. It has been an awesome ride.

Now I know what causes my mysterious diarrhea and gas pains. I blamed it on eating too much fat or over eating (ie: overloading my system) I’m keto and never realized that my vegetable choices may be to blame. Teetering on choosing a carnivore diet but not sure if I’d like it all the time. I do enjoy a bit of veggie. I need to maybe choose lower carb vegetables and see how I feel. I’ve reduced my cheese intake drastically to see if this helps my fingers: they’re stiff, painful and puffy for the last 2 months. (Arthritis?) Thank you Dr Cywes for your informative videos. You make me think and encourage me to investigate this WOE. I love it!!

On day 70 I ate 4 double cheeseburgers just cheese and mustard and the bun.
OH MY GOSH WORST MISTAKE EVER! I had instant sleepiness, bloating and felt bloated for 4 days. I felt gross and even more hungry just from the bread. Holy shit. Never will i do that again.

I decreased the numbers of carbs that I eat on the ketovore diet as time passes. However, the major problem that I have with the ketovore diet is that eating carbs for supper helped me sleep. My insomnia is far worse on the ketovore diet. I am tired at night, but I cannot fall asleep. However, although my insomnia is far worse as I decrease carbohydrates in my diet, I have suffered from insomnia since I was fifteen. If after multiple decades of not sleeping has not killed me yet, I doubt that my worsening insomnia will kill me now. I do not stress over the insomnia other than when I cannot sleep. Stressing over insomnia may be what causes the greatest harm, not the insomnia itself.

I had not thought about it since I was diagnosed type 2 and went low carb. Before that I occasionally had reflux. It only happened occasionally and at the time I noticed it happened most often when I would eat cheaper white bread products. I had assumed that it was related to how the bread was produced. Now after hearing your explanation it seems more likely it was just because of the excess amounts of starch in those product that turned rapidly into sugar in the stomach.

Seriously one the best things that has happened to me that led me back to a more low carb/Keto lifestyle was finding out that I have a gluten/wheat allergy & a few other food allergies. It's also easier to just tell people that I'm allergic to something that I really don't find appealing anyways. I do know that if I do eat something that has higher carbs in it, my hips start hurting from an old injury. Great reminder to avoid whatever it was!

The main thing I notice is that going LCHF makes me constipated, whereas normally I'm absolutely fine! So, it makes it a bit harder for me to stick to LCHF. In fact, I probably wouldn't except that I'm trying to address hypertension, which I've had for a couple of decades.

I expect that people with healthy gastobiomes who enjoy veggie carbs (onions, radishes, asparagus, artichoke, ...) will be fine with some small amount of ferment probiotics (yogurt, sour cream, sauerkraut, kimchi, and other similars). Too much can be problematic though. Also, they are probably best balanced with the prebiotic veggie carbs that feed them. However, I have heard they wreak havoc in problematic digestive tracts. Any thoughts?

Great video, as always. I would love a video that explores the gut microbiome differences between a carnivore diet and a plant based diet. Personally, I eat copious amount of vegetables and lots of fermented food along with saturated fats. The conventional wisdom at the moment is that we should thrive for a greater diversity of microbes in our gut. Intuitively this makes sense and I’d be interested if this something is you agree with and why. How does a carnivore diet promote the diversity of the gut flora without the phytonutrients provided by plants? Obviously, the microbiome changes along with the diet, so should we be aiming for consistency or diversity or both. What importance do you think the microbiome has on overall health? I appreciate that there is not that much research out there at the moment but what’s your gut feel (pun intended)?

And they increased over the next 2 weeks to where most people feel much better, giving them incentive to continue. If 90 days sounds ominous just do 14 days. I guarantee that will be enough to make you want to keep going. You can do anything for 14 days.

I’m similar. I think it’s that our gut microbiom changes when we go low carb, so that bacteria has really changed, and if you go then and eat sugar, boom your gut bacteria is really caught off guard and the reaction is way worse. That’s my theory anyway. Hopefully with time we’ll learn it’s just never worth it to cheat. Just sets back to square 1 and carb withdrawal again **sigh** it can feel a bit like Sisyphus at times.
