    1. Cut out glucose
    2. Cut out sugar (fructose is worse than glucose) Contributes to fatty liver. Reduce fruit juices. 1 seasonal fruit a day
    3. Reduce the amount if alcohol (fatty liver)
    4. Avoid seed oils & Trans fats & partially hydrogenated foods. No flour, bread, cookies, cakes. Ask is this product going to increase my insulin levels. Avoid protein shakes.

    I've lost 38 pounds in 5 months. I do an18/6 fast 3 or 4 times a week and a16/8 the rest of the week with a 22 hour fast once or twice a month (OMAD). I do a very low sugar and low carb with no processed foods eating regime. No processed carbs. No seed, vegetable, canola or corn oils and no processed foods out of a box. I take time shopping and read labels. I only use olive oil and butter. I am looking for a good high quality organic avocado oil since I recently found out not to cook with olive oil and only use it cold or room temperature out of the bottle. I try and use only organic, and if not organic, high quality foods (such as no pesticides, no GMO, grass fed/grass finished whenever possible.) whenever I can. I eat one piece of fruit a day when I have fruit, but not every day. The exceptions are when I am invited to somebody's house for dinner (still no sugar and very few carbs most of the time) and when I go out to a restaurant (invitations are around holidays or are rare and restaurants are about once a week) where I try to be careful. It costs a lot more, but I am eating a lot less so the cost is only slightly higher. I just found out that they use some of the highest amounts of pesticides on coffee and I will be switching to organic coffee as soon as my current supply runs out. It is about the same price as name brand coffees. There is poison everywhere on virtually everything including coffee makers cooking utensils, plastics, and pots and pans. It is virtually impossible to avoid. If you aren't rich it is even harder, but I do the best I can. My gout has subsided greatly and my arthritis inflammation is all but gone. I still have hypertension which is under control with medications, and I hope that problem gets solved too. I still have a way to go, but it is so encouraging that I am amazed. It's not a diet, it's a different way of eating. There is no going back. I am not hungry at all 99% of the time. If I am hungry (rarely) I pay no attention to it and the hunger is gone in less than 5 minutes. Most times when I do feel like eating, it is not hunger, it is habit which has all but dissipated. I feel much, much better now.

    I am 73 and have avoided sugar for the most part all my life. I am an avid gym rat. I still weigh the same as I did when I was in the army at 17 ... 154lbs. Everything the good Doctor says is right on the money. I suspected that about protein shakes because I get extremely sleepy after having one and I always get the no sugar or low sugar type. So it is the BCA's that are doing it ... good to know!

      If this is something you’re interested in, try an easier level at first like twelve hours, then sixteen, then maybe just one meal every day, then every other day. I struggled a lot with going to sleep without eating but that’s something that you can acclimate to as well over time.

    I was 100kg at 50 with 14/20 visceral fat levels and always tired and weak in strength with brain fog and forgetfulness and low libido. I cut out processed foods, bread,pastry,biscuits,cakes and all sugar and started to cook from whole food ingredients and go to the gym twice a week. I am now 85kg, 40% stronger and of sharper mind and feeling youthful and more confident in my day to day mental and physical health. Also cut out alcohol and have been intermitent fasting for two month 18 hr/6hr every day to promote autophagy. my visceral fat level is now 8/20 and my libido is normal again so feeling more like 40 than 52.

      is the energy you gained really a result of reducing processed foods and all sugars or is it actually just function of losing body fat and exercising (both which increase testosterone ). Seems more like its a function for how many calories in and out rather than where you got the calories.
      I remember in school wearing weighs all day and being so tired by the time i came home and just wanting to sleep...I imagine being fat is like that except you cant just unbuckle the weight.

    • @beytanerkmen4613
      @beytanerkmen4613 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@konic40 interesting idea but I think that sugar, flour and processed foods are something that contribute to the obesity of western/progressive! Society along with a sedentary lifestyle and spending half our waking life looking at a screen. In fact, I think the human race has never been so unhealthy and sick. Without medical intervention we would have lost so many people from a general lack of care, activity and natural stimulus. For me, personally I have benefitted from eating whole foods, drinking water and paying greater attention to my state of health which was poor and compounded by the commercialisation of food that even the producer knows is not fit for frequent consumption. I loved my microwave meals and takeaways and cheap restaurants but I now know that keeping things simple is better for my health. There will always be those who can eat whatever they want and not put weight on and live a long life but they are tend to be the minority. My body composition two years ago showed extremely high visceral fat levels and I was so upset because I had no idea and had eaten the same meals as my wife for 15 years. She is 5ft and 45kg and had the same test and was normal. Your genetics have a lot to do with how you respond to certain foods. I see processed food as dead because there are no enzymes but I am not a chemist so I can only say that I feel much better than for many years. We all have to find out what's best for us and you may be right that I could eat pizza twice a week and go back the microwave meals and still live long but I have no reason to take that risk anymore.

My doctor has it all consolidated - I'll see if I can get a copy the next time I'm in (within the next month or so). We tried so much stuff over the years but I continued to trend the wrong way. When I was 30 my A1C was already prediabetic (23andme says I'm genetically predisposed - and it runs in my family). By the time I was 39 my A1C was over 7 and my kidneys were struggling. (Dark urine, weird smelling, and kidney pain). I tried all sorts of "healthy" diets, exercised regularly, maintained a healthy weight, and tried various supplements. After going low/no carb & animal-based my A1C dropped to 5.2% after only 3 months and has stayed there for the past ~2 years. It sounded like an absolutely terrible idea to start with and I had a lot of concerns, but in hindsight it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

    I started Omad in November 2019 after watching Dr Jason Fung speak on this. I was 210 lbs, my bp was 155/90 on medication, my a1c was 7.9. My doctor was going to give me higher dose of metformin and add another bp pill! Since, I fast 22 hours a day and eat once between 5-7 pm. Today August 5th, 2021 I am 180 lbs, A1C 6.2, bp 127/70 and my bp medication atenolol was cut from 10 mg to 5. It’s not MORE medication…we eat too much. Way more than necessary. I feel better every day. I’m planning a 36 hour fast. This doctor is amazing.

      @@georgelopez2184 yes, I started Omad 11/19 I’m still 185 stagnant weight for a year and although metabolic numbers were dropping…rheumatoid arthritis, liver inflammation, blood pressure, A1C , cholesterol….when I ask about reducing meds I’m told… I don’t have a problem if you want to experiment with small reduction of bp med. And statin. But won’t initiate it. Cuz my numbers are at goal. Instead of seeing my doc once a year I know go every 4 months for 15 mins. I recently said to myself…you must have good insurance. Maybe a preventative thing.

I am going to reduce my fruit intake and go for a seasonal fruit a day and skip days sometimes. Thanks for your advice Dr, much appreciated. Keep it up!

      I’m in the same dilemma as you - I love the summer fruits but know they will cause big spikes in my blood glucose. I’ve been doing challenge tests on myself ie. registering my blood glucose before eating say blueberries or strawberries, then 1/2 hr; 1hr; 2hr after eating to establish the peak (one test for each fruit on separate days). It allows you to pick the fruit that spikes your blood glucose the least but only if you eat an occasional small volume of each fruit. I also eat my fruit after a meat and veg dinner to slow down the absorption. Try this out with your cherries using your glucometer to see how it effects your blood glucose. Hope this helps. I’m 72yrs old and I’ve not been diagnosed with T2D but I am definitely experiencing insulin resistance so follow a Keto diet + 18/6 IF. Hope this helps. Check out Beat Diabetes channel for tips on doing these challenge tests.

    I wish you could do a talk on hypothyroidism as this has a huge impact on the body causing slow metabolism and weight gain , high cholesterol and much more , I hate taking statins but my none working thyroid causes high cholesterol and if my thyroid hormones aren’t right my cholesterol is high , it gets very complex when dealing with doctors who have little knowledge of thyroid conditions . I totally agree with you on cholesterol and sugar , but I would welcome advice or a video on sugar, cholesterol with hypothyroidism.
