I've got a K8 1000 that I've had for 6 years, you might be interested to see how it compares to yours as I've done some modifications that you're tempted by. One of the biggest differences between new bikes is the gearing. Stock they are geared to do 101mph in 1st, which may be why you're finding it a bit flat. Mine is the following spec:
    - Arrow cans and decat pipe
    - Cresent/Micron headers
    - R&R remap 173rwhp 81ft lbs
    - Ohlins TTX shock
    - Ohlins steering damper
    - Kais fork cartridges
    - HM plus quickshifter
    - Brembo RCS M/C
    - Brembo radial clutch M/C
    - R6 monoblock calipers
    - Brembo discs
    - -1+2 gearing (I think, can't remember what I ordered now)
It's a completely different bike now than it was stock. Also in regards to flickability, the 190/50/17 rear is a tyre no manufacturer uses, and stepping up to a 190/55/17 will make it turn in quicker with a slightly taller sidewall and should help flickability too.
Either way, you can't go wrong with a K8 IMO!! Keep it up

    • @TheSd1cko
      @TheSd1cko 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Bow-to-the-absurd doesn't it just. I looked at a bike online a while ago and it didn't show much damage in the "detail" shots. But then the close up video showed the detail bits slowly, then whizzed right passed some obvious panel damage, so I enquired for close up shots of areas and provided screenshots of the video.
All they did was send me a link to the page I'd already seen.
I asked them again, explaining again that I can see panel damage vaguely as they flew passed it pretending it wasn't there but I wanted to know the extent of the damage before I travelled and they didn't even respond.
I knew I was gonna be buying in a fixer upper, but if they can't be honest about damage and try to hide obvious stuff, then what else are they hiding!?
I'd now never ever touch a bike from there ever.

Chops I’ve gone back to an older bike form newer ones ie R1, mt10.. I sold them and got myself a 2014 fireblade, it is what it is I use it for pure fun on a sunny day the throw it in the garage at the end of the day and don’t worry about it.. clean it put fuel in it and just enjoy it. Simple motorcycling but as much fun as you can have on the roads in the south east of England 😎

I had a 2008 Gixer, the all black one. Bought it new and I sold it last year with 38,000klms on it. It had a full Yoshimura system, ECU flash, black screen. I never had it on track day but some of our very quiet, long straight roads I hit 296kph on it and 1100rpm shy of redline. I sold when I hit 63yrs old as I can't bend like a pretzel to fit on it. After I sold it, about 2months later, I bought a Royal Enfield Continental GT. Fun bike but no long distance bike, I have a HD Street Glide Special for that. So for my 64th birthday I bought, brand new a Suzuki GSX-S1000F. Pretty much the same feeling bike just sit upright a bit more. Oh on your Gixer pay close attention to the fork seals. I had to replace both. No brake problems though

Come on Chops! We're the same age and have had a very similar biking history. Don't go all soft on us and keep moaning about the lack of a down-blipper, rev-match yourself and enjoy the interaction with the bike (and don't become down-skilled into the process! ;) :D ) I do like a QS for up-shifts, but want to do the rev-matching down-shifts still myself! :) Good review, shows just how little of the electronics suite goes towards enjoyment and usability of the bike, if you know how to ride.... Obviously, electronics make you faster on track, but unless you're racing, and pushing that hard, who really cares? :)

Even bikes in the sub 11-grand territory these days have transmissions and linkage so good, downshifts can be mostly instant and seamless. Just steady the throttle with barely any engine load, fan the clutch with a quick squish and that shifter drops at the toe seamless, engine jumps instantly to the lower gear RPM and you're all back with the clutch released and ready to either engine brake or blast off. Get a feel for this method under varying engine loads and you can be cruising at highway speed in top gear, in a couple seconds simply BLIP BLIP BLIP (down three gears in less time it takes to say "three gears" without any unsettling the chassis or smoking the clutch whatsoever) and WHACK the throttle off into the sunset with solid power.
A clutch is a wear item, just like tires and brake pads. Don't be afraid to slip or fan it a tad, you don't need full-off disengagement, a big upset in power, a big lurch in chassis, a big gap in traction, followed by a slipping to match engine RPM to change a gear.

First two easy things to do before thinking about getting new discs are to clean the discs with some fine-is sand paper or scotch-brite and obvs brake cleaner, brake dust builds up and can cause judder, it looks like the discs are older than the pads, poss not cleaned when new pads were fitted.
Also make sure the front wheel is aligned correctly, as many people (even some mechanics) fit them without aligning before doing up the pinch bolts and that can cause judder too, rare but possible. Also saw people saying it could be your headstock bearing, at least that is easy to check without pulling it apart

Loose head bearings can give that brake judder you describe. In the garage hold the front brake on and rock the bike back and forward. If it's the bearings it can be felt through the top yoke.
    Have a look at a throttle tube from a 5vy R1 (04 - 06), if memory serves that will make yours q\a.
Looking forward to the series on this bike.

Chopsie, next year it'll qualify for classic insurance...that's why I bought a K5, living in Central London and it costs me £100 to insure....I fitted rearsets, a quickshifter and brembo RCS master cylinder...perfect cheap track day tool. I can also vouch for the comment re headstock bearings causing low speed judder. Enjoy!!

Great video Chopsy, I have exactly the same bike. Bought it new in 2008 as a track bike, has a full yoshimura system and on track also a Yoshimura EM Pro ECU. Had to remove it for street use, if anyone are interested?
The bike lost lots of power/Torque in the middle range with the std. ECU so it need a flash. Gearing gets much better with-1/+1 , a specially with a 55 profile tire . Helps the steering a lot, same with a good steering damper. I have Hyperpro forks and a re-valved rear shock with a progressive spring, made a big difference on the track 👍🏾
By the way my bike has only 2000 miles on the clock 😃

I'd call that a real one. Noughties bikes FTW. Fuel injection so no E10 gunked carbs, but no Euro p*sh.
Love my 01 Ducati 750SS, the sound with twin remus cans and the clocks look like a Spitfire. Bellissimo.

I think we all have thought about what you're doing. when we get older and can afford the thing we wanted 10/15/20 years ago. we buy it, then find out how much things have moved on. I did a 2001 blackbird in 2020 £3000 then £1800 in respray fairing and wheels. new tyres. end pipes. leds. just couldn't ride it when caught out in the rain! sold it £3000. bought a XSR700 with ABS :)

With a Ecu flash the low end mid range and topend will come alive even more.the Ecu is restricted very heavily in the Gsxr especially with the secondary throttle maps.great gearing for this bike is 17/45 if you weight over 160 and 17/44 if you’re under.a BMC air filter is recommend with full exhaust for this bike.these bikes can produce 170 whp stock motor with the right bolt ons and setup.great video 🤘🏽

Absolutely loving this series already !! I was disappointed with the mid-range of the 1000 k7 compared with the k5/k6 when they came out, but I rode a few with the de-cat pipe/ full systems and power commander - they were way spunkier in the 4 - 8k area 🙂 K7/K8 made 160 rwhp +/- when new.......is the next instalment ready yet ? !!!

You should be able to check if the discs are running out of true using a dial gauge against the discs and spinning the front wheel by hand. The latter being the hardest job not having a main stand.

I've got the same bike with arrow cans and link pipe fitted plus power commander, 1 tooth smaller on the front sprocket and on the back 1 tooth bigger and the front wheel will lift in 4th gear on full chat 😉 I don't see the point of getting anything more modern, the power at the crank on the 2008 model was acclaimed to be 185bhp as standard 5 bhp more than the big bang R1 but never really got a good review when it was tested back in the day probably due to its tall gearing 120mph in first gear😂 also the problem with the front brake feeling weak and suffer with brake fade on the track, I fitted new seals on the calipers and that helped loads as the old seals wasn't fully letting go of the disc causing them to fade ,great bike and definitely one of the more comfortable bikes to ride for a sports bike and looking forward to seeing what you do with yours enjoy..!

Before you go spending money on your brake judder, make sure you let your fork legs relax and centralise. I fit 2 sets of discs on my bike before realising the fork stubs just needed loosened and the front suspension bounced up and down on a few times and then the stubs bolts nipped back up with the front brake lever squeezed. Would have saved my a good few hundred quid.
    Nice bike though Chops.
