Us guys of a certain age still love the guilty pleasure of a good line four . A lot of people extol the virtues of twins and v4's but as a road bike engine the gsxr engine is smooth ,gutsy, kinder to tyres, good on fuel and if we're being honest plenty fast enough. Sold!
Little correction - the gsx-r 1000 had a passive cat since the k3. Back then the cat was positioned at the entrance of the muffler. I can recommend installing a rj15 (2006 R6) throttle grip, wich is almost plug and play and shortens it significantly. To remain the force to turn the throttle nice and easy you can disconnect the spring on the fuel injection on the very left side where the trottle cables are connected.
A surprise Chopsy video 👍🙂 You could look into getting different clip-ons, the K7/8 had fairly narrow, angled back bars - you can get bars with different offset, where they come out at the 12 o'clock, or 3 o'clock position on the fork, alters comfort(less reach more upright etc), gives more leverage and you can angle them back, forward, whatever feels good 🙂
You need to change the velocity stacks ,then you'll see a bigger difference in mid range and top end power after the mods you've done, I had some billett stacks on mine and they were billett aluminium and a work of art, they was made by a company in the USA
I finally made it into one of your videos Chopsy! The pink artic truck that you followed across the 2 mini roundabouts by the harvester (about 4:30 in) would have been me out teaching!
Sacrilege has been comitted by the addition of that god awful topbox lol. I remember John from the pages Performance Bikes R.I.P.. I love this channel. Greetings from Oregon USA.
What a weapon this is Chopsy and proof you don't need to buy an M1000R (I've just commented on that vid about prices) when motorcycles like the GSXR 1000 exist. I'm loving the practicalities too 😅
Subtile but sweet 👌 Just put a full system with racefit end can on my gsx s-1000 and it now pops and bangs. Still needs it's map though so I'm looking forward to that in June.
Pardon my ignorance, but I take it the ECU flash sorts things the CAT does? If you remove the CAT without a flash do you run the risk of failing the immissions test?
Well, maybe not in England but there's an emissions test in Europe, at European MOT stations, and they're always looking for the existence of the CAT! The only exception is if the bike is old enough and was never released from the manufacturer with it. Certain Austrian areas especially in the west, noise test bikes and cars and if it's too loud it'll end up on the trailer and the owner gets a hefty fine. The limit is 94DB I think. Same goes for Switzerland. The funniest story I've heard, happened with Austrian police. They purchased a fleet of brand new Ducati Multistradas years ago,(previous gen) to use them as police bikes but they could never actually get them serving the police as with the factory silencers and cat converters the bikes where at 95DB and so not road legal in Austria 😅LOL What a waste of money 😅
@@Mancastle thank you for that I never knew there wasn't an immissions test for bikes. My question now though is why they bother putting a cat on bikes, seems a bit pointlessly over bureaucratic
Sounds lovely, is it possible to have one silencer as per the more traditional sports bikes with the K8? I think my K2 has a very basic cat in the silencer? I fitted the Heal Tech gear indicator with the TRE and I’m sure it has made the machine more tractable and cleaned up the throttle response 🤘
Can I as you a question please I have a new hypermotard 950 and want a very reliable mobile phone holder for my Samsung Note8 as I'm riding from the Midlands down to the West Country, and will use my cordless earpods to hear directions, thanks for your help in advance, all the best, love the channel byw.👍👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
Pirelli Diablo rosso’s & Dunlop Q5’s are really good grippy tires for street bikes, they may not have a lot of mileage as sport touring tires but you’ll be satisfied with the turn in and fast warm up time
Can anyone let me know about removal of the cat and the MOT, I've a 2023 Street triple RS which is gonna be my everyday bike but I've been adapting my 2020 RS for trackdays (fairing, changed gearing, clip ons, full exhaust system etc.) my worry is removing the cat may be a fail and I want the bike road legal so's I can ride it to and from the track, would removing the cat constitute a fail?
I advised you the timing retarding elimination needed doing back last summer at cadwell.😂 Now for the elephant in the room Suspension! Bet the fork oil is like a vintage red wine 🤣 Would of been my first job tbh. Needs springs, front & rear and a rebuild at least. Be like riding a jelly
I miss my old K7. Really awesome do it all bike back in its day. Commute during the week, throw it on track for the Saturday and then hit the twisties on Sunday.
classic mistake , changing more that one thing at a time , 1 tooth off the front makes a huge difference even without the flash , of course its sharper you just lowered the gearing .

Well done John it's a credit to you. The muffler exhaust note is just right, keeps the PCs from the door. cheers.

Just done it today to my K7. WOT is easy now 🚀
What else does the common man need out of a sportbike who is living in the real world? You've done well, Chops! 👍👏

Nice vid & the GSXR sounding & looking great for the summer ahead. Although a little bit of sick did come up in my mouth when I saw the top box lol.
Haha 😉

The bike sounds good. Can't wait to see you out with Greg and Womble

Yeah agreed 👍

There is no emissions test for bikes. The flash is to smooth out the power now that the bike can breathe better

Keep the Gixxer content coming Chopsy... 👌
Sounds a treat that does chops. 👍
Regarding the flash, was it the £99 woolich flash I've seen online? Got a 4 into 1 on my k9 1000 and it hunts at idle. Love the gsxr content chopsy 👍
The new riding season is a GO! 😁
Hell yes!! Finally 😁

MOT was never really in question was it Chops? Great to see some good riding weather at last. Thanks for posting.
Being proper old school, never ridden owt with a quickshifter or a blipper or abs. Long live the dinosaur.
That sounds fantastic - nice one 😎
You’ll be fitting panniers on next 😂😮, bike sounds lovely ,
I'd love to remove the cat on my 750 k8 but assumed it would have to be replaced for MOT every year. Is this not the case??
No emissions tests on bikes, i always decat never had a problem with mot's
Nicely done. Being completely OCD like you, I’d have the shock of my life if the bike didn’t fly through..😂 Bike looking great
Watching this really wants my arrow cans to arrive - they can’t get back from MHP exhausts soon enough!
All I can say is.....50l top box on my old gsxr and still have one for my 600 I still have😅
Looks and sounds great.👍
I don't care what anybody says, the classic inline 4 is still the best sounding engine
My favourite bike on TH-cam, bar none, love it ❤
the K8 has modes, so if the mileage is electronic wouldn't that increase the mileage with the sprocket adjustment you made?
Yup will be recording extra miles
Respect chopsie, but that bag on the back 3 yards away from the bike is a no no. Great video as always though 👌

HI, I want to buy a k8 and I have been wondering how tall are you and are you confortable on it? Love your content btw.
6 foot 2 and yes it's pretty comfortable for a sports bike 👍

Why did u k8. And Not a k5??
Is this the bike that returned you to sport bikes after you swore them off after the Duke but bought this one after the loaner was don?
Well had a few since then! But yes this one is pretty comfortable for a sportsbike 👍
I alway thought if your bike had a cat as standard from new .you had to keep it for your mot .
No you can de-cat any bike or car. You might run into the odd issue with pedantic test centres but otherwise you should be ok.
