And it’s The Dawg himself on bass- American Idol’s Randy Jackson- he played bass for them for a couple of years. ❤❤
I didn't know that until Amber said it. Now I havve to watch the video again...I know him from A Idol
Wooof wooof wooof
Steve wanted Randy Jackson on bass and booted out Ross Vallory for a second. Good for Amber spotting him because he was a lot heavier back then
I love Randy! So cool he was with them…I loved him on American Idol. His jacket is so dope🤘
Wow, how cool.
Steve had one of the most iconic, powerful, beautiful, effortless voices in history.
No, not "one of the most", His voice is the greatest ever.
@@RobertoSantana61 I would include in that list: Karen Carpenter, Freddie Mercury, and Ann Wilson.
You said it one of the most effortless voices ever.
@@lindamcnamara7803 Correct. It comes comes out of him, seemingly without effort.
@@oldnerdreviews that's hall of fame right there.
No lip syncing there! Pure talent
🤗😎👌🤘
Absolutely right Steve Perry has an amazing voice
-definetly- ! 🔥
I hated that they allowed the live vocal for this promo as it is so inferior to the studio vocal. Such a great song for them to ruin this way. Jay was spot on by mentioning that he wished he could hear the studio version because he is missing something in this live version. I have mentioned this over and over in comments that they need someone like me to provide them the best video to watch for reviews. Hope they will call me up.
none of that goddamn autotune that has ruined music for over 30 years.....
" I'll Be Alright Without You " - by JOURNEY 1986 this is another one of their greatest hits 🎸 from Raised on Radio. Amazing tune what a classic
Great suggestion!
I saw them in Philly back in '86. It's still the best concert I've ever seen live. And I've seen a lot of great artists along the way.
I liked "Suzzane" off that album (Raised on Radio)
Steve Perry is one of my favorite voices in the history of music.
Mother Father live in Houston is a must listen. Steve says it is the hardest song for him to sing live. And he recorded the song in one take for the album. Unbelievable! 🎶
Mother Father is one of my favorite songs by them. And I never heard it until about 1999. In my defense, I think the album it was on came out before I was born, or at least when I was very, very little!
-ikr- !
Love that song
THAT is one of the BEST live Vocals EVER!!
Send her my love is another great journey song. There’s live versions on TH-cam that are really good and showcase how great they were live.
I think they’ve already reacted to that one!
@@cjkent88They did, but it was the studio version not live.
I love that song... and also "ONLY THE YOUNG" ❤
That was the next song they were going to play at the concert in the video. It is starting at the end as their next song.
Don't care who they have Steven Perry is and always will be Journey 🎉❤
The Voice never disappoints. Yes Amber that is Randy Jackson playing bass. He played bass for Journey on this tour. He also produced the album for Journey.
Greatest voice of the 80s
Live or in the studio...their songs are amazing. No auto tune, no lip syncing, no prerecorded backup vocals or music. You can't fake talent. Journey was just true talent.
Can't go wrong with Journey! ❤
I'm so proud of you Amber for knowing Randy on bass. This is a banger to play bass and guitar. ❤❤❤❤❤🤘🤘
Why? He mentions it every chance he gets lol!!!
-xD- !
-one of the judges on " american idol "-
@@sunnystormy4973 ummmmmm......huh lol?
would'nt you ? and mind you he played with and produced a lot of other famous bands and artist .@@williamyates694
would'nt you ? and keep in mind he played with and produced a lot of bands and artist.@@williamyates694
This is better than the studio version , Neal’s guitar solos are better than studio
Perfect performance in every way ( actually a verse from a song of theirs) AND IT IS!!!😮
A Journey reaction? You made my night! Steve is awesome! BTW -Steve and Randy Jackson are still friends ❤️🙂❤️
Hard to beat the feel-good vibes of a Journey song. Great riff.
One of my favorite songs by journey will always be " whose crying now" absolutely amazing.
Journey never disappoints. One of the best bands ever.
Their 80s stuff pretty much rockd, they had found their groove (the album Departure, 1980). "Anyway you Want It" off that album was one of my favorites.
Its great when you watch them live in concert. Thats how you know a real great band from others
Yes, that's Randy. He and Bob Glaub shared duties on the album, but Randy toured with them.
J & Amber, their "Don't Stop Believin' " is next for you!! Steve 'The Voice' Perry.
Perry is renowned for his countertenor vocal range, which spans from F♯2 to A5. Perry's voice has been described as a "high 'tenor altino' [with] a tone somewhere between Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin." He has been dubbed "The Voice", a moniker originally coined by fellow singer Jon Bon Jovi.
This “Raised on Radio” Tour was the first concert I ever went to back in 1986. I was 15. Seeing Journey with Steve Perry as my first concert is an awesome memory I’ll never forget!
That must have been awesome! My first show was Kansas on their comeback "Power" tour in 1986, and I loved it. That was a good year!
You have to do Journey "Mother, Father". Live from Houston, 1981. Arguably one of the best live performances ever in any genre!! (In my opinion) 🤘😃
Yes! You guys have got to watch this performance! So powerful and will give you chills at the end!
100% agree. You Have to watch that live performance from Houston
With Randy Jackson (yes the American Idol judge) tearing up the bass! Check out "Ill Be Alright Without You" off of the same album. Its got one of Neal Schons best, most soulful solos at the end. A mind blower.
This earned a double watch. Journey at its best. Great song...Steve Perry killing it. Kudos to Amber for recognizing Randy Jackson
Yes, and Randy loved to name drop his time with Journey as often as he could on American Idol.
What you just watched basically sounded just like the studio version minus the crowd. That's how amazing they are.
Please react to Still They Ride live video. His vocals will blow your mind, and he had the flu while performing it in Japan.
Please do listen to the studio version also. The harmonies at the end are insane.
Not sure if you’ve reacted to these, but:
Faithfully
Send her my love
Still they ride
The party’s over (hopelessly in love)
Open arms
The hit list is endless
They've done Faithfully and Open Arms.
They've done Faithfully for sure...
Agreed. This is good. But the studio version is even better.
I went to this tour in Hartford Connecticut, and used to go to an average of 12 or 13 shows a year in those days (mid 80’s through late 90’s). Since that time I have been working at 2 of our Country’s most famous music venues in Tennessee and have witnessed many many concerts. This show still ranks in the top 3 greatest my whole life!
You two never fail to put a smile on my face! Thank you,
No bad song from journey imo. Saw them many times with Steve Perry and it was never a bad show!,, Steve’s voice was the best imo! ❤ love y’all Pls pls do mother father!!!
I've been a Journey fan from way back. I never saw them in concert. I really like these videos of them live. In this video you can tell that they are really having a good time performing.
Great reaction to Journey at their absolute peak, this was their time, their moment in time and we were all grateful to be along for the ride. ✌️
Any Way You Want It , its one of their most famous singles ❤
Glad you got back to the man with the voice, Journey is such a great band. His voice makes my heart melt 🫠
This song Soars, and Harmonizes. And then it Soars and Harmonizes Some More. And then it Soars and Harmonizes Even More!!! It's Just Stellar, and is their BEST, IMO, especially in the Official Studio Version. Great Choice & Reaction!
Yes! 🙌 THIS!
Not many groups can pull off such tight harmonies live. Definitely listen to the studio version. All vocals are Perry. My 2nd favorite Journey song.
Brings me back to being a kid in the 80’s. Makes me automatically smile.
Sitting here with the biggest dumb grin on my face. Steve just brings me so much joy. ❤❤❤
Patiently and Winds of March have AMAZING Steve Perry vocals ❤❤❤
Amber would LOVE "Send her my love" by Journey. It's beautiful.
They did enjoy it. They reacted to it some time ago. Check out the reaction when you get the chance.
They're so good! Check out Journey's "Stone In Love" Live 1981: Escape Tour. Incredible vocal as always by Steve Perry, but Neal Schon's guitar solo...WOW!!! Long Live the 80's! 💯🔥🤘
"Be Good To Yourself" is another song that has a great guitar solo outro by Neal Schon.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE JOURNEY❤❤❤ gotta give "loving you is easy" or "party's over" trust me
And this is the live version - it's even better than the studio version.
Journey "ONLY THE YOUNG" is my favvvvorite of all their songs. You will both LOVE it!!!!
No better group ever!!! In concert a lifelong dream to see!!!
Fun JOURNEY fact: The lead guitarist, Neal Schon, played the original Woodstock festival when he was only 16 years old! I believe he was invited to play with SANTANA. Also, Steve Smith, the drummer, I later found out, was a high level studio player that was really under the radar with this band. I’ve heard Neil Peart of RUSH talk about him! Neil was impressed! Holy crap! I screwed up big time never seeing them.
Such a great time to grow up with music. I've had the privilege of seeing them live numerous times, such great memories. The list of great songs goes on forever.
I was at the Hawaii leg of this Raised on Radio concert tour. First time I was able to see Randy Jackson live. He's Monster bass player. I loved his work with some Jazz artists like Jean Luc Ponty.. As usual Journey killed it live, even with the new lineup of musicians...
Journey has great sound, always good. 🍺☮️
Another one of my favourite bands from the 80s. The lead singer had such a distinctive voice. It was almost haunting. Brilliant. Made my day.
"Raised on Radio" is an amazing album. my favorites from it are "Suzanne" and 'Why Can't This Night Go On Forever", a rocking one and another amazing power ballad.
sadly I think this was the last tour Journey did with Steve Perry. in 97 they were going to do a tour for the new reunion album "Trial By Fire" (another amazing one) but Perry hurt his back (ironically getting in shape for the tour) and the tour never happened. Steve Perry never sang again with the rest of Journey
I think what he does live is more impressive than studio
You should put "Don't Fight It" by Kenny Loggins and Steve Perry in your back pocket and react to it in about 6 months. It's a phenomenal Summer song!
Yes, yes, yes, but not six months, it should be their Next duet reaction.
I cannot recommend this enough; it’s surprising how many Journey fans had forgotten about it.
There was no band better than Journey live back in the day!!!!
I love this song from Journey with lead singer Steve Perry! One of the Greatest Lead Singers of all time! I like it when he sang it live on this video! Aloha!!
I saw Journey perform this song live in Dallas at Reunion Arena, December 2, 1986 on their Raised on Radio tour. To this day, it's still the best concert I've ever been to. Steve Perry is and always has been on a different level. The man's voice is perfection ❤
One of the few groups who sound just as good live as studio
The most beautiful man in music history will be 75 tomorrow, January 22, 2024! He still has the pipes!!!
Of all of the reactions you two do, I appreciate your reactions to Journey, most specifically, Steve Perry! This particular tune is primarily sung in Perry’s alto voice vs his typical upper register! Regardless, he’s the love I’ve longed for!
You guys really need to listen to the song Mother, Father live in Houston from their 1981 escape tour. It’s a great song that really had not enough play time on the radio. It’s a banger! One of my favorite Journey tracks. I know you guys will love it. Especially Amber!
Had the pleasure to see Journey a few times live. Just a great band.
Oh, wow 😮. He sure can sang! ❤🎼🎶
They were big in the mid 80’s ! I wore out my Escape cassette in the Monte Carlo in 86-87 ! 😎
This is. by far. my favorite Journey song! I can't say I like the live version as much as the recorded one, but Steve Perry's voice is always golden!
There are all great songs! You can NEVER go wrong with Journey!
You CANNOT beat that live version!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
I used to jam this in pool halls on jukeboxes all the time! Best Journey song IMO
Stone In Love should be your next Journey song.
These are the songs that make it worth going to concerts. Live performances have energy, a connection with the audience, and an on-stage chemistry amongst the band members that you can only experience by being there. Songs that might be sleeper hits can become the star of the show. See as many shows as you can (I know you have young ones. There is a pause during those years. but go back as soon as you can.)
Always loved the coattails. And Randy Jackson (American Idol) was their bassist on this tour. He was a studio musician and is also in a Richard Marx video. Children of the night.
I’ve been a Journey fan for a long time and they are absolutely one of the best bands of all times. I’ve got a request for you to react to another Steve Perry solo song. It was a hit a long time back of course, but it’s a rocking song not a ballad. It’s called You Better Wait. You will enjoy it, I promise.
Absolutely the best he is and always will be Journey ❤❤❤😂
One of my favorites from that album! Harmonies really sound good on the studio version. React to "Lights" or "Stone In Love" next. Thanks. 😎
Yes! Stone in Love please
Absolutely they should react to Stone In Love!
I actually love this whole album. Underrated in their discography!
Steve Perry is on many a short list of greatest R&R lead singers. His voice is a gift.
I love the part if this song near the end where the band background sings "Ooooh there's a fire in his eyes for you." A fine bit of harmony.
Perry grew up in small town Hanford, CA, just down the highway from where I live. He's never forgotten his roots and I heard he took a lengthy sabbatical to care for his mom as she died. I've met folks who went to school with him. He is much respected.
Blessings ❤
I could listen to his voice day and night.
Randy Jackson also played on the studio version of 'After the Fall' from Journey's previous album Frontiers (1983 this album is '86). Drummer Steve Smith (who isn't on this album/tour) had met him while doing studio musician stuff on the side (I think) and introduced him to the band. Randy is still friends with Perry, and wanna say with Smith too.
While recording the Raised on Radio album in 1985, bassist Ross Valory and drummer Steve Smith were fired by Steve Perry and manager Herbie Herbert. Bassist Randy Jackson and drummer Larry Londin were brought in to finish the album.
For the tour, Randy Jackson stayed on and drummer Mike Baird was hired. In 1987 at the end of the tour Steve Perry said he had enough and quit the band. Journey was gone until they reformed in 1996.
What a great performance! Not every singer can hit such notes for an entire live concert. Usually there are some changes here and there to the scale for live shows in order to keep it going. Performing is like playing sports, but in football/soccer for example, they can opt for a substitution. 😊 I'm suggesting "Don't Stop Believin'" for your next Journey journey.
You guys really need to listen to/watch their live version of "Mother, Father" from a concert in Houston. Incredible vocals and performance from the band. Studio version is amazing, but this live vocal is next level. And yes, that's Randy Jackson. He only played with Journey for this album and tour, I believe. And Jay, of course I've heard of the Big Unit and have watched him pitch.
Journey was such an iconic band of the 70s and 80s. You could ask any baby boomer who sang a song with the lyrics: "She's just a small town girl, living in a lonely world. She took the midnight train going anywhere." and just about everybody would know it was Journey singing Don't Stop Believin.
I was in the 7th row for this show...such a great live performance!!
People seem to forget that Neil played with Santana when he was 15 years old!!
Feeling that Way by Journey, that's the one to hear next!
So happy I got to see them in their prime!
Same here.
i remember seeing you there crying steves name over and over.
Does anyone notice the Bass Player? Randy Jackson a great player and producer and American Idol host
If you listen to the studio version make sure it's from the "Raised on Radio" album and NOT the "Greatest Hits" album since, for some crazy reason, Steve Perry's "There's a fire" vocal is deleted from the "Greatest Hits" version. Also, another great tune off of the Raised on Radio album is "Why Can't This Night Go On Forever"... Amber, especially, will love that one.
"Mother Father - Live in Houston 1981" is a MUST for a future reaction.
Nothing like the voice of Steve Perry live. So special! A great song. Miss this era of music. Ross Valory was Journey's bassist and split with the band suddenly in 1985/86. Journey brought in Randy Jackson to play bass on the record RAISED ON RADIO and tour with them. Randy had played bass for Jerry Garcia (Grateful Dead) and Carlos Santana earlier and was known to be an exceptional bass player in the music industry. He has some street cred even through he is mostly known for American Idol. He has played music for Bob Dylan, Elton John, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Keith Richards and countless others. Keep the Journey going!
*Oh yeah. This is when Randy Jackson, who did some judging on American Idol, was with the band. I think this is after '85. And I AGREE! You must react to "Mother, Father" - Live - Houston 1981.*
Wife and I saw this concert tour on one of our first dates in September 1986 in Indianapolis. She still says this was her favorite concert. The first time I saw American Idol, I recognized Randy Jackson as the bass player from Journey when we saw them.
Have y'all done Don't Stop Believin? Can't imagine you wouldn't already know it, but if you don't, it's an absolute MUST!!!
Love this song! Love journey
Probably my favourite Journey song! Great performance!
I was lucky to see Journey with Steve Perry back in '86 on their Raised on Radio Tour. They're the best band I've ever seen live. Amazing.
My favorite Journey song
"Mother, Father" and "Who's Cryin' Now" from the Houston 1981 Concert are fantastic!
The man can sing the phone book and it would be a hit!!
This has been my favorite Journey song since the mid 80's.
THE VOICE! Nuff said. If you want another Journey rocker, check out "Dixie Highway" from their 1980 live album"Captured". If you want hear his vocal gymnastics at their best, check out "Sweet And Simple" from 1979's "Evolution", or "I'm Cryin" From 1980's "Departure", or "Mother, Father" from the "Live In Houston 1981" video. These are some deep cuts that are well worth checking out. They show the incredible skills and range musically of Journey.
