Peter and Kate are both UK artists. This song was written in response to the huge social upheavals taking place in the UK during the 1980’s. A time of mass unemployment, the end of a job for life and many men thrown on the scrapheap. My Dad was one of them so this song means a lot to me. Thanks for playing it guys x
This song makes me cry EVERY SINGLE TIME since I was 14 or 15 years old (I'm 50 now). This song will always remind me of the 1st time I ever heard it, my older brother played it for me when I was really depressed. He sat me down in his room, a couple candles, he put the headphones on me and he left me alone there to listen to this song. It was the best way he could think to express this message to me. This is truly one of the most beautiful songs ever written. After I got diagnosed with a life altering illness, I got in my car, turned on the radio and this song was playing. It was what I needed to hear at the time and although I’m not deeply religious, I couldn’t help but think out of all the songs out there, this was the one playing - and it was playing just for me!
These are very two theatrical artists. They are exquisite together because they play off one another's emotions perfectly. One of the most beautiful duets ever.

The very first song written by a 14 yr old Kate Bush is "the man with a child in his eyes" . Once you hear it and realize that was her very first? You will then know that she is beyond next level. To this day, I remember watching Kate Bush in a spakly jumpsuit perform "The Man with a Child in His Eyes" live, on Saturday Night Live, back in the early 70s. She was sitting on the top of the piano, accompanied by Paul Shaeffer, playing, along with a backing track, and it was amazing. I had never heard of her before. I was a complete Kate Bush fan from there, and nearly 50 years later, I still am! Hopefully Rob Squad will play and react to it!
That was not the first song she ever wrote, she started writing and composing songs from age 11. It was one of the first songs she professionally recorded though, because of David Gilmour, who presented Kate to EMI, a music production company in London at the age of 15.
I saw it! When her voice kicked in, the loving glance he gave his wife. Very inspiring in these times. The words in this song should be heard by every loved one.

Song breaks my heart. Loved it since it was released; took on deeper meaning when I was laid off a few years back, with wife, kids, and mortgage weighing on me. Kate’s repeated pleas were hard to hear without breaking down.
I've heard the song before, but never seen this video before. The power of seeing them embracing each other is stunning and adds so much to the message and the song.'
I loved your reaction to this, Jay and Amber. Peter Gabriel wrote this song after watching a documentary about The Great Depression in America, originally he thought that Dolly Parton would sing the other part but she wasn't available so, he asked Kate Bush whom he knew well and I for one think that she was the perfect choice to sing this duet.
These two grew up near each other and met and influenced each other for years. The Kate Bush Documentary is really great at talking about this connection.
