One of my favorite quotes from Sly Stone, (lead singer of Sly & the Family Stone), he said: "Don't hate the Black. Don't hate the White. If you get bit, just hate the bite". I love their song "Dance to the Music". Thanks, guys!! I love "Everyday People" too!! 💙🎵💙
There's a live version where Sly starts by saying Don't hate the Black Don't hate the White if you've been bitten just hate the Bite, some of the greatest words ever spoken, great reaction
From a old white grandpa. I love you guys as much as I love watching and hearing your comments on the music you react to. You always put a smile on my face especially when your reacting to the music I grew up listening to in the 60's and 70's. What a long strange trip its been!
I was a teenager in the 70's and listened to my Mom's Music and Loved it too. Blues, Soul and Rock n Roll is way better than what I hear nowadays. I almost gave up on music of today but I have seen some videos of youngsters who ❤ the old music. The Warning and Liliac are just 2 bands to mention.

"Everyday People" and "Everything is Beautiful" are great songs about just getting along and ❤ everyone. I wish people today would look back and check out the members of all the Bands of my youth. And look at the concerts and all the people there.

*AMBER, I LOVE YOU!!!* Your words brought tears to my eyes with your understanding of this song and the knowledge that this song and music in general brings the world together.
Sir Jay and Lady Amber, this is my favorite by Sly and the Family Stone, this is going in a different direction but you should check out " EVERYBODY WALKIN' THIS LAND" by Home Free or Paul Cauthen. As always a good reaction.
Hot Fun In the Summertime is one of my favorites ot theirs. Very progressive band for their time. Nice reaction! I agree Amber, music brings us together! Food does, too as they are things that ALL of us have in common.
I would totally suggest "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" next! I got to meet Sly once in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, he was in a really dark place at the time, but it still meant a lot to me. Thanks for the video, guys!
The first greatest hits album was Johnny Mathis's Johnny's Greatest Hits, released in 1958. The greatest hits album format then gained popularity in the 1960s and became ubiquitous by the 1990's.
I still have the album but the motown groups had greatest hits albums before Sly & the family stone.. have them too. I'm sure groups from the 50's do too. Etc.....
I can not praise this group and their music enough....and this is one of my favorites. This era was part hippie, part collegiate, part tough, part rich and poor. We were transitioning...but average people understood we were all just everyday people trying to shape community.
I really thought music was going to be the bridge between races, cultures, sexes... What I underestimated was how much some people were against bridging those gaps.
@@ilionreactor1079 Right?! We were going to be the generation to bring the world together in peace, treat the planet well, etc. Ah, well...as the song says - different strokes for different folks.
@@WhiteTiger333unfortunately the older I have gotten the more I have realized that the human species have never actually evolved. As individuals we can control our own lives, but the species just carries right on as before. ✌️

“Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)” is my all time fav song by Sly. Jay, the Bass line in this song is LEGENDARY!!! So Funky and groovy that you can’t help but dance!! 💃🏼
There were so many groups back in the day and sly and the family Stone are right up there, this is just one of the great hits and thanks for reacting… 50 years later it’s even is better than ever
I love seeing younger people getting surprised and responding to Music that my Generation loved as we grew up. This was one of the songs of the soundtrack of my life as a kid in the 60's and 70's.
My 1st concert ever was seeing Sly in Madison Square Garden in 1970. It changed my life!! The 60 y.o ushers in their orange vests were dancing harder than the 20 y.o. freaks as 18,000 people never sat down!!! Also on the bill that night was Gladys Knight and th ePips and rare Earth - I'm still recovering. Sly was definitely a genius, way ahead of his time. The musicians of the Family Stone consisted of men, women, black, white, and family members which was hardly seen in music at that time. Larry Graham, their bass player invented the slap bass technique that all funk bands built on. They were so unique, so tight, so funky, so hot that you had not choice but to dance. I heard that Miles Davis said that he wished he had what they had as he watched them from backstage in 1969. Listen to "Sex Machine" or any other cut from the album "Stand". Their performance at Woodstock was killer!!!!
Sly and the Family Stone was one of the first popular integrated groups, and they raised eyebrows and hackles when audiences saw black and white musicians performing together. Black audiences were shocked to see a white funk drummer. Also significant that they had a female horn player, which is rare even today. The message of this song spoke directly to the group's experience and to Sly's vision.
This is my favorite SFS song. I couldn't agree more about music healing this world. I grew up in the late 60's into the 70"s. Music was so much more cohesive then. Genre's would be mixed. Not until I became an adult did I realize how my heart and been shaped by all the vast music I had been exposed to. Then music became splintered more and more. With reaction channels, especially this one, people from all different generations, races, places, and walks of life are sharing great music. Jordan and Amber, I love your beauty that runs through and through. I say it every time. I'm so proud that you are Oklahomans. Love from Tulsa! xoxo
“If You Want Me To Stay” by Sly and the Family Stone is one of THE funkiest songs ever. Family Affair is a must react as well! Was my first concert; was 5 years old and went with my parents to a music festival; Sly and the Family Stone stuck with me for life ❤
We had a club back in 72. We played Sly & the Family Stone, Allman Brothers, Led Zepplin, BB King, Pink Floyd, and many other incredible and diverse styles of music. The only criteria we had was the music had to be great. The way music is pigeonholed today makes people miss so much amazing music.
A grandpa here that got hooked on reaction videos after seeing you two beautiful people react for the first time. We are all just Everyday People and my hope is someday everyone gets the memo. "Dance To The Music" might be my favorite but Sly had a number of great hits.
Sly & The Family Stone is one of the greatest bands ever. Period! Gotta check out Hot Fun In The Summertime, Dance To The Music, Thank You, Sing A Simple Song, Family Affair & my favorite, If You Want Me To Stay!
I LOVE Sly and The Family Stone and this is my favorite song of theirs!! ❤ I'll always be a hippie at heart. I'm very much a product of the 60s n 70s. I clean house to this 😂😂On your own find a live version. You will love this even more!! Coming from believing in love and acceptance in the 60s n 70s is what makes me cry over what is happening with a the hate and separation today. We fought to come together. Now young people on the internet seem to be fighting to tear us back apart. I have granddaughters in college and they and their friends are not like that. You'd think they were from the 60s n 70s preaching love for everyone. I'm so proud of them. I'm blessed they all come to my house. We make lots of stuff together. They always want to know how we made beads and clothes and furniture and how we gardened and all that community stuff we did together. I love teaching them. When the soybeans were harvested we made soy milk.
if your toes ain't tapping, your shoulders ain't swaying & if ya just gotta get up & dance - you got NO, I repeat NO SOUL!!!!! They ROCKED this number!!!!!
Love this group and this song! My older sister wound up on a flight with him in the early 70s and so many people were greeting him that they were clogging up the aisle. He saw there was gonna be a problem and joined the pilot and stewardess at the door of the plane and shook hands with every passenger and had a smile and nice word for everyone as they left the plane. .. Class Act!
Wow, just wow. I was 14 when this album was released, and living in a somewhat insulated white suburb when I first purchase this album. I am happy to say that I always advocated.for doing covers of this group in the several bands that I played in starting in high school and beyond. It still remains a huge tribute to the music at that time frying to bridge the gap and heal the wounds of those turbulent times. Thank you for playing this!
This song just reminded me that y'all have NEVER done "Arrested Development", an Afrocentric, southern hip hop group from the 90s who would be right up your alley. They have an incredible song called "People Everyday" that heavily samples "Everyday People". And then you need to also check out their songs "Tennessee" ""Mr. Wendal" and "Revolution". Powerful hip hop with a meaning.
Miss Amber, you are totally right! I've always believed that music was one of the building blocks of the Universe and would be one thing that could unite all peoples. I am PROUD to be a member of the RSR Family, and I love all of my brothers and sisters! I love Sly and the Family Stone!!
I’m glad you finally came back to this band! Sly was a genius & visionary. The band was very diverse! Next, try “Everybody Is a Star,” “If You Want Me to Stay,” “Stand” and “Hot Fun in the Summertime.” Their music always was funky, with a positive message! Thanks for all you’re doing to keep “our” music alive!
I've been waiting for this forever! Fun fact about this song, it uses the phrase "scooby doo" before that show even came out apparently the phrase came from a frank sinatra song and that inspired the actual name for the show. Also this song created the phrase "different strokes for different folks" which inspired the name of the classic tv show different strokes featuring Gary Coleman.
As A Granddad who loves music, I respect your reviews. This is such a Brilliant tune that I often still spin, I play the vinyl 45 & mix it with Arrested Developments cover. The Lyrics are all important.
Jordan recognized it from a commercial that I know of, too, but I thought he was going to say he knew the version by "Arrested Development". We used to sing this in class when I was in the 7th grade because my teacher, (with his cute self) loved this song and played it often, along with other great songs. He also sang and played acoustic guitar. He was an awesome teacher. 🙂❤
You want something funky, " Sing a simple song" Then mellow it out with " Everybody is a star" You can't go wrong with Sly. I grew up with them and they set it up for, soul rock, funk and hip hop. Most underappreciated group.
This song has been used in so many commercials! The message of this song is so simple and important! Sly and the Family Stone made great bangers that make you think!❤❤
Love hearing you two react to music... yes, it's a song that you've HEARD in a dozen different commercials and movies and it's been used as background everywhere, but you take to time to stop and LISTEN to it. Not enough people LISTEN.
More Sly! Give 'Sing a Simple Song' a try! Such beautiful positive music, which the world needs now. Keep spreading the love. "It's the only thing that there's just too little of..."
You are so right, music can be the cure to the evils of this world. When I was a kid in the 1960's we had songs on the radio that tried to show the way: What a Wonderful World, Put a Little Love in Your Heart, Everything is Beautiful, Less of Me, He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother, and many more.
Love this song and fondly remember hearing it in the background as a child, then as a popular tv show, " different strokes." It had its impact on my generation.
Stand and There’s a Riot Goin’ On are two essential funk albums that really shows how versatile this band was. “Family Affair” and “Runnin’ Away” are great songs to check out next
I haven’t heard this song for so long! Yes, music can bring people together! This song should be played everywhere, from the highest of heights, from every speaker in the world and as loud as the volume can go!! This is so appropriate for the times we are having today!!❤❤ Glad you reacted to this, a great song and a great message to remember, share, and reflect on!! Love you guys!!👏👏❤️❤️
"One child grows up to be somebody that loves to learn. Another child grows up to be somebody that youd love to burn." Sly always had great lyrics and the music beat to go with them.
One of the og funk groups. This was there most famous song, and the message is now even more profound as the world has become even more divided and polar. Was glad to see you both fall in love with this classic
Amber mentioned that she felt that music is a universal language. The Moody Blues song, I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band) is about that very concept. Jay will appreciate John Lodge's driving bass line in this one.
And Graeme Edge starting it off on drums, slowly accelerating up to speed for John's entrance. So much great stuff there. Have Ja y and Amber done any Moodys?
@@KenRoerden Those are all great. I would also recommend Thomas' For My Lady, Veteran Cosmic Rocker, or Nice to Be Here. Or Pinder's When Your a Free Man, Melancholy Man, or Dawn Is a Feeling. Or even Edge's 22000 days or You and Me. As you, no doubt, are aware, each of the Moodys had a different style, that the band was able to translate.
Thank you two for making me smile again! For yet another smile, some future day, please consider reacting to the fabulous "Hi-De-Ho" by Blood Sweat and Tears!!
So many songs from them I wouldn't know where to start: Hot Fun in the Summertime, If You Want me to Stay, Dance To The Music, Family Affair, Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)....
Sly & the Family Stone - innovators, game changers. It can’t be over-stated. Their music was the next big step from Motown & soul into the funk of the 70’s. A super talented band comprised of male, female, Black & White - something unheard of & revolutionary in the mid-late 60’s. Everyday People resonates now. It resonated then. It’s one of the great songs of our time.
Silver Convention - " Dancing In The Isle " 1976 Amazing Bass Lines twice in this song these ladies have soulful voices that blend to perfection in this super funky groovy 70s classics 🎶

On another reaction channel I once suggested maybe 12-15 other songs by this groundbreaking group, and later thought that may have been a little much, but when a band is this great and important, I sometimes get a little carried away. That string of albums from, but not limited to, "Life", "Stand", and "There's a Riot Goin' On" is amazing, and NOT just for the hits. Great upload.
"Hot Fun In The Summertime", "Thank You"and "Family Affair" and "Stand". Are also iconic songs:)
Also "Dance to the Music"

Miss Amber, you are totally right! I've always believed that music was one of the building blocks of the Universe and would be one thing that could unite all peoples. I am PROUD to be a member of the RSR Family, and I love all of my brothers and sisters! I love Sly and the Family Stone!!
One of the greatest bands of the 60s-70s. Sly is a true genius.
Two reactions. Yet we are on No. 6 Paula Abdul. Sigh.
"Ball of Confusion" by The Temptations is a must listen!
...and Bassist Larry Graham creates a groove by playing just ONE NOTE..... amazing
Our Girl Amber, I totally agree and I’ve always just loved this song!!!!
These lyrics are still so relevant. This is one of my favorites. Another great one that is often overlooked is Everybody is a Star.
Sly and The Family Stone! Always fire! As old as that song is, it’s still relevant! So many jams this group came out with! I will always love them.
From what I understand they were one of Prince’s main influences…
Hence the diverse band “The Revolution”
You want something funky, " Sing a simple song"
Then mellow it out with " Everybody is a star"
You can't go wrong with Sly. I grew up with them and they set it up for, soul rock, funk and hip hop. Most underappreciated group.
Memories!!! Philippines, ‘70s I also loved PAPA WAS A ROLLING STONE by The Temptations…good ones.
Love this band and this is my favorite song of theirs. It should still be played on the radio. Its message is timeless!!
An absolute anthem. And the tremendous lyrics and message are equally matched by the music and vocals
Love this band and the great memories from childhood!!! ❤❤❤❤❤. Next Thank You Fa Lettin Me, Family Affair and Dance To The Music!!! ❤❤❤❤
Sly Stone was a DJ who put a pretty funky band together and had some good success.
Diverse tracks.
Amazing times growing up with all the great genres of music blasting throughout the house!
One of the iconic records of the 60s, not only in the fabulous message it presents, but also musically, especially the rhythms.
I have always loved this song and identified with it so much. Music is the key to the answer, and the answer is love❤️
This is so appropriate for the times we are having today!!❤❤
Glad you reacted to this, a great song and a great message to remember, share, and reflect on!! Love you guys!!👏👏❤️❤️
Sly invented slick. Such a fantastic band with great music and a message.
You re absolutely right Amber …..again and again , amazing !!!
One of the all time great songs by one of the all time great groups who don't get enough mentions or credits.
"One child grows up to be somebody that loves to learn.
Another child grows up to be somebody that youd love to burn."
Sly always had great lyrics and the music beat to go with them.
You definitely need to check out Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)...you'll love the bass!
One of the best bass lines of all time!!!
@@chiefsohcahtoa3285 absolutely!
@@KenRoerden They've done Nights in White Satin and In Your Wildest Dreams
@@thefoss5387 Thanks. So much more to go then, like Departure/Ride My See-Saw, Legend Of A Mind and The Story In Your Eyes after I'm Just A Singer.
“Dance to the music” is another great one from this great artist/band
Thank you two for making me smile again! For yet another smile, some future day, please consider reacting to the fabulous "Hi-De-Ho" by Blood Sweat and Tears!!
So many songs from them I wouldn't know where to start: Hot Fun in the Summertime, If You Want me to Stay, Dance To The Music, Family Affair, Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)....
Another great song that brings us all together is Three Dog Night "Black and White" I really think you will love the message
'
❤ this group and whenever their song came out always has a message and meaning to their songs.
Ebony & Ivory----Stevie Wonder & Paul McCartney
Requiem for the Masses, the Association
Sly & the Family Stone - innovators, game changers. It can’t be over-stated. Their music was the next big step from Motown & soul into the funk of the 70’s. A super talented band comprised of male, female, Black & White - something unheard of & revolutionary in the mid-late 60’s.
Everyday People resonates now. It resonated then. It’s one of the great songs of our time.
Silver Convention - " Dancing In The Isle " 1976 Amazing Bass Lines twice in this song these ladies have soulful voices that blend to perfection in this super funky groovy 70s classics 🎶
Why isn't Bass spelled Base? I've been fishing for bass before.
My brother was a Rodee for sly and the Family stones.met the whole band back stage at MSG.Met Billy Preston.i was 9 in 1972 great concert
OHHHH, YEAHHHHHHHH!!! :) SUCH A GREAT TUNE!!! SO GLAD to see ya'll reacting to THIS ONE!! I KNOW that ya'll are going to LOVE THIS ONE!!! HUGS, YA'LL!!
Great song!
