    Just a heads up, the stock MGA4012YB-A15 fan inside the PSU is rated to push 18 cubic meters per hour, while Noctua 40mm fans push only 8.9 cubic meters per hour.

    If you want to connect it to the PSU itself, you'll need the FLX version of the Noctua fan. Also, for anyone using the 10mm thick fan, I would probably recommend putting some electrical tape or something over that little gap between the fan and the PSU chassis so that air doesn't leak in.

      @@f13dfx from what I see you should be able to screw a noctua 120mm into the mesh on the side or just zip tie it to the gpu heatsink

    • @d-o-n-u-t
      @d-o-n-u-t 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aditya Aurora zip-tying it is probably a bad idea. You NEED a secure fit, as GPUs do NOT thermal-throttle and overheating will lead to critical failure and your card would 200% die.

    • @lordhighbinary2006
      @lordhighbinary2006 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@d-o-n-u-t I've seen many zip tied fans on GPU, and from personal exp, it doesn't matter how you mount your fan. It matter more on how much airflow the fan you are using is able to generate. Basically you want a fan that designed more for pushing air through radiators not for case airflow (there are always exceptions, but that's the general rule).
      Ive seen cases where ziptied fans do BETTER then the stock fan.
      Where the problem comes in is making sure the aftermarket fans are not running too slow (or can self adjust) based on gpu temps.
      But that's my 2c, do with it as you see fit.

    • @Leonsimages
      @Leonsimages 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lordhighbinary2006 actually there have been a lot of ppl in r/sffpc doing the noctua fan swap on the MSI or Gigabyte Mini cards. The NF-A9x14 (which does have quite good static pressure for a 92mm fan) fits into the stock shroud and you can use a 4-pin to VGA adapter to connect it to the fan header on the GPU. Thermals are supposedly about the same while it is way quieter.

  • @toofhuny8898

    This SFF build is just awesome in either format - the Noctua 40mmx10mm fan the Flex PSU appears an absolute must especially when using what is the currently the highest powered GPU available in ITX form. The i5-8400 seems a sensible partner CPU selection . Biggest problem - this incredible SFF cases are extremely hard to obtain.
    Great channel Ali - love it - the video quality is excellent and your chilled manner is informative and welcoming. I do hope you'll attempt a high spec air-cooled build in the Fractal Design Core 500 - perhaps when the next gen of 3080ti or whatever GPU's emerge. For an ITX sized case it really is a boon for ATX kit and masses of it.

    I was able to get the 20mm noctua to work with the flex ATX. I bent the fan cage on the case inward and mounted the fan flush on the exterior. I then closed the gaps left where the old fan would have been with some kapton tape. There was barely enough clearance in front of the power button after I rerouted the cables, but it spins without interference. I also ran a temperature sensor from the motherboard header into the PSU and hooked the noctua to a mobo header. This way I can control the PSU fan based on the internal temp of the PSU itself. It idles at 35c and peaks at 50c under load.

    First love this case. Also the Enhance 7660b is the only flex psu to buy for the case if you have the time/patience. The hdplex combo is great if you want a silent build. But it's the most expensive option.
    Did optimum get the newer version of this case? I have the 1.1 and it doesn't have the mounting holes or back plate for the hdplex. I build mine using the hdplex 400w, it's what I had, and I just have the jack wire hanging out in back. Didn't use any velcro/foam, though the cables and everything else keeps it stable. But it sits on my desk at work though.

    If your OK with a 330w psu brick, how about the meanwell RPS-500-12-c. It's a 12v PSU that you'd use with a pico style psu for the motherboard, and will do 310w passively cooled (500w with a fan pointed at it). It should fit in that space, be silent, and give about the same amount of power as your external brick without needing an external brick.

    Cool video. Where did you get the tiny heat gun you used to crimp the cables at 4:45? All i find are big industrial heat guns.

    If you’re looking for a silent FlexATX PSU, get the Enhance 7660b 600W model. It’s completely silent in my 4L SGPC K39v3 case powering a Ryzen 7700 + RTX 4060LP
