    • @theunholybakery1990
      @theunholybakery1990 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Actually, the temps are lower than the 3900x's. And it's like a ~95w tdp, so it's possible. A bit toasty but possible.

    • @josephyang3260
      @josephyang3260 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      dellrizlonian I agree my 3950x says in the documentation and on a sticker that came with mine that it needs at least an AIO. I mean mine is running at 50 degrees idle rip. My moms 3900x runs at around 39 degrees

    • @dellrizlonian
      @dellrizlonian 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@josephyang3260 The AIO recommendation was lousy tbh. It doesn't need that much cooling, I believe they officially mentioned a 280mm radiator. A 240mm was proven to be more than sufficient. Aircooling it would be fine, just not aircooling it on such a dinky heatsink. I had an L9a on a Ryzen 1600 in a similar sized case and it could not keep the temps under 80c.

    • @dellrizlonian
      @dellrizlonian 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@theunholybakery1990 It's possible in the sense that the CPU will throttle performance down to compensate for the insufficient cooling. The L9a just isn't cut out to deal with the thermal density of the Ryzen 3950X (or 3900X). Even Noctua's own recommendations on their website state that the clock speed will be below the base clocks.
      Also, no. The 3950X is not like a 95W TDP. 6 of the 16 cores under load will draw around 105w, 8 cores sees that go up to 120w, 10 cores will see it peak at 145w and beyond that the power draw will taper off back down to 125w as the voltage and clockspeeds drop down under a full load. See Anandtech for the source on those numbers.
      The L9a is meant for "65w TDP" CPUs, with good ventilation a "95w TDP" CPU is doable. Good ventilation is not having a glass panel less than 20mm from the fan blades nor is it a single choked intake from the bottom of the case.

  • @StaneDaynus
    @StaneDaynus 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    People mentioning the thermals didn’t watch the whole video. He CLEARLY says the parts are just what he wanted to put in there for demonstration purposes to display how much power you can pack inside the small form factor.
    He’s not intending on permanently cooling a 3950x with a single fan and paper thin rad. It’s to demonstrate.

    • @StaneDaynus
      @StaneDaynus 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      All that said, the case is wicked. There’s a point when form factor starts to effect performance due to thermals.
      I’d love to do a 3200g/2060 build in a case like this, but I’d never go overkill on the specs because I don’t want a screaming toaster oven yelling at me every time I boot a game lmao
      Really cool nonetheless!

      @@StaneDaynus Our 107W TDP CPU goes up to 59-65C (depending on case configuration) with a 120mm AIO and 30 min in Prime95 Small FFTs, isn't the 3950X somewhere around 120W? I don't think it's going to be a problem at all under non-synthetic workloads (and perhaps even synthetic ones as well, but that's reserved for future testing) :)

    It would be sick if they built this around a custom loop system. glass side panel could show off the GPU and the water block, then the rear side could have a the vent side panel to house 280 or even a 240 rad. push the whole build over to the GPU side since you'll have extra space with the water block, then it'll give you the room for the rad over the CPU/ motherboard/ PSU area.

    For all the experts giving him a hard time over the cooler. Yes it seems crazy but if you give it a google you’ll see the SFF community has already done some testing on this and it’s completely viable, especially in 65w eco mode. Of course you don’t get the performance you’d get on a larger cooler but modern CPUs throttle for a reason. You can easily get 3900x performance out of this setup with better thermals. 3950x being much better quality silicon than 3900x helps this.

    Recommendation: Flip the fan side up and make it an exhaust. There have been tests on this over at LinusTechTips and having one exhaust is better than an intake fan in terms of temps.

    • @randomfrankp
      @randomfrankp  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not on this case, Thor-zone recommends an intake vs exhaust.

    • @Mad5cout
      @Mad5cout 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Case manufacturers recommend a lot of things. This has been third-party tested. Exhausts matter more for your temps. The only reason you would want an intake is if you wanted a positive pressure system, but honestly all these ITX options have a lot of unfiltered holes where dust is going to get in anyway and you are going to have to be blowing them out frequently either way.

    • @Mad5cout
      @Mad5cout 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@randomfrankp Prove me wrong. I know you don't really do a lot of testing on this channel but you could temp test both options easily with the removable core on this case. Guarantee a top-facing exhaust will have both your CPU and GPU temps lower than a bottom-mounted intake.
