Elizabeth Fowler it seriously took such a dark twist at that point. It was all pretty dark at that point, but the implications behind the “taking what I want” line are so fucked.
It's a dark fucking show. I think its they're darkest. Fuck TGWDLM. So it didn't have a happy ending. At least it never implied rape and hasva guy with split personality disorder killing his family. It didn't have a guy losing his wife to royal asshole. This show is D A R K
“Science says you’re dead and gone forever, reason says I’m talking to the air. But something in my heart, some secret hidden part, illogically insists that you are there, somewhere” God, those lines hurt me so much
And there’s also the line in a thousand and one nights (I think that’s the song name lol) and it says something along the lines of: I never cared for stories until yours entered mine. Now my only wish is that our plots will intertwine.
1:14:06 Everyone's talking about the tigerfucker joke (rightfully so, its hysterical) but honesty this whole musical number is underrated. Its so fucking funny, but it also like.. unironically slaps. the way he sings "let them laugh, thats just fine, but the last laugh will be mine" is so satisfying to me, and near the end where theyre all singing "they'll remember achmeeeeed" is literally SO GOOD. like unironically, even without the jokes. also achmed is just generally the funniest character ever devised, the way the actor plays him is absolutely hilarious, and even though he's kind of an annoying asshole this song somehow makes him (and his guards) really endearing. overall extremely underrated. (also the delivery of "blood. on my ass.CHEEKS. tell me j a f ar . how the ~fuck~ did that get ~t he r e~ " makes me lose my shit every time)
Don't forget bathing his bloody sweaty body with your tongue! But seriously the, "BRING ACHMED HIS TIGER AND NO ONE GETS HURT!" kills me everytime. The payoff never stops.

@@the-ma-an JSJSJSJJS i can see how you’d mix that up but for real the notation that Belle goes “i want success” and jafar replying “buy some” is hilarious as well
Did you notice how Ja'far said "It is done" when Jasmine asked for his eternal happiness, yet he was surprised when Sherezade came back? He didn't know he had granted the wish, he simply meant that Jasmine having a good life as a ruler was his eternal happiness already granted, even if he wasn't really there
Jasmine: Wow. You live here? Aladdin: Eh, I'm squattin' here. Later Aladdin: I live here. Also Aladdin: No I live here. Aladdin: Nooooo. You're just squattin' here. That's quite the callback
I just realized that, as Jafar is singing about wanting to see his wife again in the first act's climax song, he sings the line "[We'll] share an itty bitty living space," which is a reference to the genie in the original when he's talking about his lamp. I didn't need your foreshadowing slapping me in the face after my third run through, damn it.
This is something I haven't seen anybody mention: the songs are amazing how they give off the same vibe and have similar musical components to the songs from Aladdin but they're not just changed lyrics that Disney could sue for. It's amazing how the songs feel just like the originals without being exactly the same
Yes!! I was thinking this the whole time. And i just realized that the entirety of Take off your clothes has the same amount of syllables in every line as A whole new world.
with Black Friday just coming out, the Starkid cast are on twitter like “it’s more dark than our other stuff but we hope you like it!” and every time I see that I just think back to this show with Sherrezade having her ear cut off and then being stolen, Aladdin having an alternate personality and murdering his parents, Aladdin being an actual pedophile, Aladdin threatening to rape Jasmine.... this show is just too real huh
like you said, this show is really dark, but in a real-life way, because there are people who are really pedos, people who murder their parents, but black Friday is dark in the way it plays into pretty common horror movie tropes (a cult being controlled by an eldritch being)
kaaiitlin that is true but black friday was a lot darker in tone and themes than twisted. twisted presented itself as more of a comedy than black friday
@@meredithreaves2769 except the fact Twisted ends with the Magic Kingdom becoming a meritocratic democracy thanks to a naive but good-hearted girl, and Ja'far reuniting with the love of his life... while Black Friday ends with the implication of thermonuclear annihilation. Which one is more likely?

I'm currently revisiting these Starkid musicals and I really have to say that "Twisted" is one of their best musicals they ever did. It's like they managed to take a Disney movie and turn it into a story about a man who not only goes through grief but does everything he can to help the kingdom and the Princess. Plus there's so much to like about it such as the role reversal on both Ja'far and Aladdin is so damn clever, the script is just funny and touching at the same time, the music is brings tears to my eyes and even the character development is great too.
