My two issues with Sovol SV06

- My further experience is good with the Sovol SV06 printer. There are really only two things I consider issues:
- the bearing came in the box rattling which means I need to take the printer apart and grease it myself. Not ideal if this is your first 3D printer,
- after a power failure the printer will not keep the bed temperate. It will give you a prompt asking if you wanna resume or stop but if you are not around when that happens and about 15-20 minutes pass the PEI sheet will release the part = failed print.
Also I do not care about the old school style the printer copies, the lack of the stop switches etc etc I do not even care about the lack of a touch screen. As long as I can set a print job to it I do NOT care. - วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี
I swapped out the y axis bearings with plastic and shims, replaced the y axis motor with a 40mm long motor, added part cooling from the back, cable releaf for the y axis and ribon cables, cover for electronics. Wore out and repaced a part cooling fan and silicone sock. Runs like a champ. You would think I have a Prusa, it runs so well.
That sounds great! Maybe what they did to get the SV06 is they got a Prusa and just stripped it down to a bare minimum. What max print speed can you do now on it?
@@gebsystems I am getting 90mm/s. It can go a lot faster, but I would like to not push my luck and try to break things. My travel speed is 200mm/s, and acceleration is 500mm/s.
That sounds really good for this entry level cheap printer. I will try and mod it in the future and see if I can get similar results. For now I am using the Mingda for my daily prints.
That missing top layer looks dope 😂 happy mistake
Totally! What can I say... Garbage power grid at my parents house 😃
The 5 upgrades I did to my SV06: PolymerIgus Igus Drylin Bearing (so quite), Sonic pad for klipper, silicone bed leveling mounts, CHt nozzle for high flow, and Z wobble nuts. The printer runs so smooth (250mm/s) last upgrade is the cooling fan.
I am not going to go crazy with the upgrades. However... them bearings you suggested could be the one thing I will get as the stock bearings on the SV06 are shit.
@@CandyMan2001 I was thinking about it but I got the SV06 as it was on offer (£160 shipped). So I grabbed it! I also got the hardened 0.4mm nozzles to try out carbon fibre. The PLUS does come with some QOL features and has a larger bed. I am thinking to get something super massive at some point so that I can print bigger enclosures for my electronics.
@@CandyMan2001 Smashed it at £210! Defo a deal! I got a big mindga, small mingda and the SV06 (carbon fibre printing for the future for small parts)
@@CandyMan2001 In that case you will be LOVING the Sovol! Your life will be amazing again! I am not a fan of making the printer work, I prefer to work on the actual problems I am trying to solve. The printer just needs to print and that is all I need.
If you got such a technical background than mastering a cad software will not be much of a challenge. I started with TinkerCAD, later on moved to FreeCAD and never really changed that. I use both now as they have their use case scenario. My designs do not require me to go any further.
Modified fan with 5015, added sovol klipperscreen, so far so good.
Those sound like decent upgrades. The klipper screen is like half of the printer cost 😀 What about the bearings??? Yours Do not make those lovely metallic grinding sounds?
@@gebsystems First day only, then cnc lubricant and it was ok, every about 10 print, cleaning + lubricant again. Klipper increase the speed a lot and i think is worth it, for the price is like buying the sv06 pro, i couldn't afford to buy another printer, so got the klipperscreen.
Holy smokes! You take the term maintenance to a whole new level! Lubricate it every 10 prints?! How are the prints with klipper anyway? What speed you normal print at and get good / decent results? Also, I totally get the economics of your choice! We all can't splash £££ left and right.
Power failure resume in most of these new printers does not work. Ender 3v2neo and sv06 both only work 10% of the time on resume.
Ohhh... I did not know that. I have tried the resume after power failure on my sv06 and it worked ok, apart from the layer shift it finished the print (and power was back obviously within 10 seconds since I was in charge of that). Thanks for the input!
My sv06 resume works very well, as long as you get it before the build plate cools down.
