I just bought a 5 month old 4S cross turismo loaded with £26k of extras. List price £127k and I paid £67k. Insane. I love it and for £67k I can’t think of anything better. But as a £127k car it has some major deficiencies. The 3D surround camera is a joke. The park assist and remote parking rarely works. The interior is nice but not premium enough. However it’s sublime to drive especially nimble with rear axle steering. The ride is so comfortable, the feedback so confidence inspiring. Almost the perfect blend of sport and utility. It’s even pretty good off road.

@morten_hannesbo anything you recommend to check battery health on a used Taycan ? Does the 21-24 Taycan's battery (recall notwithstanding) have a reliable lifespan vs other EV's ?
@@ben2e I would not worry too much about the battery. The battery should last a long time - up to 450000 km. Do consider buying the Porsche approved extended warranty which can be renewed yearly or extended for the next three years. The Taycans are very cheap for the time being and if you put aside some money for repairs then you are likely to get a great car at relatively low cost.
Thank you, Morton. Fantastic, insightful video as always. I'm in the market for a used Taycan and moving away from a Tesla Model S. In your upcoming videos, would you be able to cover the practicality of the car from a family perspective? I do not want a Cross Turismo as prefer the shape of the sedan; however, with an 11-year-old and 9-year-old, and with us planning to use the car as our main family car, I do want confidence that the rear seat space is sufficient and boot storage is practical. The Taycan often gets tagged as a family sports car so I'd like to understand from someone who has experience of using one day to day whether this truly is practical enough to be used as a main family car. Many thanks!!
Thank you! The Taycan is ok for space, but not great. With two kids with long legs and the occasional long trip it could be tight. There a Tesla Model S would be much more practical. Our kids are out of the nest and I mostly drive alone or with my with wife so no lack of space for me. I even get a road bike into the back of the vehicle. For our family trips I run a Range Rover.

I currently daily drive a 2019 BMW i3S. Excellent, and practical little car. Efficiency is outstanding. I am considering a Certified pre-owned ‘21 Taycan base with 7.7k miles. My concerns are size in terms of parking, although it has rear steer which should be good in round-abouts. Regenerative braking, as the i3 is virtually one foot driving which I love. Thats good to hear I’m currently thinking about purchasing a pre owned EV here in Ireland but not sure what to buy . Keep up with your excellent reviews well done
The car itself is pretty cheap now, but all these costs of owning it, dear lord. 249 CHF a year to use app for basic controls?? I mean I have a Tesla and I would never think they'd charge me for using the app, that's just ridiculous.
Hi Morten, congratulations on this series of videos. These are exactly what I'm looking for while deciding when to take the plunge and buy a second-hand CT 4S. One consideration I have that I haven't seen anyone address so far is the charging history of a used EV. I suspect a lot of those who bought a Taycan from new would not have been particularly familiar with the sensitivites of charging an EV. For example, how many will have heeded the advice to charge to only 85% and ignore their range anxiety? Also, with Porsche recommending Ionity chargers, how many owners will have only ever charged their Taycans on a 350kW DC charger every time it needed topping up rather than giving it a nice gentle 7.4kW AC charge at home overnight?! Also, how many will have leased their Taycans, not caring about the long-term effects on the battery of the way they charged? I see some businesses are now offering a kind of battery review service, but I have an OBD reader and Car Scanner which can tell me how many times my EV6 has been DC fast-charged, etc. So a question going through my mind is, will a dealer let me plug in the OBD reader on any of their Taycans I'm interested in buying?? Or can they provide some form of charging history? I asked a dealer this last question a couple of weeks ago, and they had no immediate answer.
Hi Phil, thank you for watching. I asked my Porsche Dealer (been a customer for 15 years and have two other Porsches!) if he would do a battery test to establish a health score. His reply was that this was not possible (although I know for sure that Porsche can do a test). Long story short; Porsche is very tight-lipped about the battery health - and Porsche even states that customers who do not follow the recommended SoC 15-85% could lose the warranty. The experience so far shows that the Taycan battery is in fact pretty good and holds up well. There were other issues such as sealing etc, but Porsche have rectified most of them. I suggest you ask for at battery test at the Porsche dealer and see what he says. You can also buy the car from the dealer subject to a subsequent test result of min 90% health score and have it tested by a third party (software provider Aviloo is widely available). My personal view is that if you have confirmation that the warranty is still valid and can be extended, I would not worry too much. The range should be 380-400 km with a 100% SoC which would indicate a healthy battery.
Dear Mr Hannesbo, I am considering buying a used Taycan Sport Turismo here in the Southwest of France and I was wondering how much of a discount you received from the Porsche dealership (I suppose you bought a Porsche Approved car?) with respect to the dealer's original asking price. There are quite a lot of 2 to 3 year old Taycans for sale in France but they are listed for quite a lot of money and I guess that is partly because Porsche doesn't want people to see the horrible depreciation figures on this type of cars, but how much do you think Porsche dealerships are over-quoting their Taycans at the moment and how much do you think they are willing to come down in price in reality ? Great channel with practical, useful info from an owner's point of view in stead of a journalist's or regular youtuber's one. Keep up the great work.
@@kizmaiaz7671 Hi, thx for watching! The Porsche Dealers prefer to sell you a finance deal with the car and leave some financial wiggle room, hence the higher prices, allowing for the cheap finance deals or a high trade-in price for your existing car. The Porsche dealers' prices are typically 10% above the non-Porsche dealer level. I bought my 4S at a BMW dealer and got 4% discount. But important; make sure you buy a Taycan which is still within the Porsche Manufacturers warranty and have this confirmed by a Porsche dealer, then you can buy from any dealer or even a private seller with a good level of confidence. Even better; have a Porsche dealer check the car and confirm the work that has been done incl all warranty and recall work.
Great overview. The charging controls on the app and car (profiles, etc.) are indeed horrible! Tesla nailed all of that. Porsche needs to hire a UI/UX designer from Apple or Nest. Other than that, love the car!
Hi Morten, this is a great review.... I'm trying to choose between a used 2020 Tesla Model S Long Range and a Porsche Taycan RWD Base that looks EXACTLY like this. Although I can afford the extra expense of the Porsche, I can't mentally justify the USD 25,000 dollar difference in price. The Taycan is without a doubt better looking, but is the price actually a justifiable difference?
The Tesla offers much better value and I would not hesitate to buy a model S, but I am a big Porsche fan and wanted a Taycan again, so here I am .... ! A Tesla model S beats the Taycan in all aspects except image, handling/braking and perceived quality. I'm still happy with my choice.
Great to know! Surely you got a good deal. In England they more than complain about rather low trade in values. When I look at Tesla's website then it is really hard to find better value. But they also charge money for premium connection. Drip charging makers are still topped by BMW who seems to want extra money to heat your seat.

For comparison my 2022 Model X Plaid with 1020 hp and 2.5 second 0-60 mph has 19,500 miles with an average watt hours/mile of 327. 22.5 kWh or 22,500 watt hours for 100 km or 60 miles is 375 watt hours per mile. This is for 2 years in MN where we have cold and snow. Also includes some long trips and a small amount of towing. I drive fast often, by the way. Thank you very much for the info.
Tesla is unbeatable when it comes to efficiency. I tested the Model X Dual Motor as well as the S Plaid, and I really liked them. But neither the X nor the S compare favourably to the Taycan in terms of perceived quality and fit and finish. Again useful owners information that isn't from a car reviewer who can't say anything negative or they will not review another car. Example : VW Buzz reviewer who gave bad review on range got banned from reviewing VW cars. In the UK prices seem on par with Europe but used Taycan cars are dropping £1000 a month at least. Some used car dealers (including Porsche garages) are holding prices because I think they are looking at massive losses. Tyre wear and miles or km covered will be interesting. 20 inch Taycan tyres are about £200 each and 21 inch tyres about £320 per tyre in the UK. Insurance is about £1000 a year for a driver over 50 and UK does not pay road tax for electric cars until 2025. London so called ULEZ green zone will soon charge even electric and hybrid cars which are Free at the moment. In London ULEZ cost is £12.50 per day for a petrol or diesel vehicle. Electric cars will pay in London "during charging hours" whatever this means ?

But important; make sure you buy a Taycan which is still within the Porsche Manufacturers warranty and have this confirmed by a Porsche dealer, then you can buy from any dealer or even a private seller with a good level of confidence. Even better; have a Porsche dealer check the car and confirm the work that has been done incl all warranty and recall work.
Great overview. The charging controls on the app and car (profiles, etc.) are indeed horrible! Tesla nailed all of that. Porsche needs to hire a UI/UX designer from Apple or Nest. Other than that, love the car!
Great informative video! best wishes for your channel!
🙏
Did the seller provide you with guarantee for the battery?
No, as the factory warranty is still valid this was not necessary.
Hello and congratulations for your awesome vehicle, and for the awesome series that started with it. That’s also how I found your TH-cam channel and I have a question can you create a episode explaining in details about all the types ie. 4s, turbo, turbo s etc. of Porsche Tycan and all the different options like real wheel, steering, metrics, headlights suspension etc as are used car buyers guide, thank you
Is on the list to do👍
@@morten_hannesbo great. I am asking because I am currently looking over the Porsche
Taycan used market and I think it will be quite useful for a lot of us thank you.
Hello! What about interior noise while driving? Is there a bit of squeaking and noise when driving over uneven surfaces?
This is my third Taycan. All three of them excellent in terms of ride and handling, without any squeeks or rattle.
@morten_hannesbo Thank you for the answer! Recently got my e tron gt 2021 (28k km) and this one got few problems with it, would try to fix it with audi now, fortunately guarantee still available
Not surprised they depreciated so much, too many recalls and quality issues. Yours was a bargain at 75k CHF. I think they will depreciate even more though.
@@ESnipezHD Sure, but I can max lose 75000😄😃😅
Question: Looking at coming years what would you expect as yearly maintenance costs with 20.000 kilometers yearly?
Hi, Difficult to give a precise number except if you sign up for a service contract with the Porsche dealer. But have a look at my video: th-cam.com/video/4pxkmJ46p0E/w-d-xo.htmlsi=QmAXrzYAh3nZtHuR&t=363
Overall I'd say 1500 $ for tyres very 20000 km and similar for maintenance plus a small buffer....
Great review, thank you. Would you recommend leasing instead of buying given the depreciation uncertainties?
Regards from a fellow Zuger (you and CarswithLuke are both from Zug 😊💪🏼)
Leasing is a good idea, as the residuals are in yo-yo mode. I did not lease mine, but probably should have...
That is an excellent price for the car. Did you buy off a garage or an individual?
@@CHfondue I bought it from a local BMW dealer who had traded it in. It was originally sold by Porsche Rotkreuz.
385km is fine, my family needs to stop every 200km anyway.
In short, I would not buy the Taycan new, but the Tesla I'd probably lease new on a 4 year lease.

why the phone on your window ?
@@ninjotoo I have changed it to another phone mount, the C162 XO adsorption magnetic holder which sits lower in the center console.
Very informational video. Thanks!
Thx for watching !
Thx for watching and for your interesting comments!
@@morten_hannesbo Will follow your Taycan videos with great interest as I would like to buy a used one.

Why would anyone ever buy one of these over a cayman with a real engine.
That is an easy question to answer. Many of us love cars, whether they are EVs or V8s. Allow me to ask you something. If a combustion engine car had all of the features of a Tesla, would that be an attractive automobile for you? Years ago I will admit, I thought I'd miss the roar of a V8, V10, or envy a V12, but with active electronic exhaust systems on the market that even some combustion vehicles are beginning to use... the question of an EV becomes... why not! th-cam.com/video/eP0CpylaFzE/w-d-xo.html AND th-cam.com/video/cBmfKvUh_mM/w-d-xo.html
Wouldn’t touch this scary expensive gremlin filled car without a very extended warranty no matter the price. Pay to use their app? F Them!
Dated, unreliable and inferior in every way to the 2021+ model s experience. Nice blacked out personal upgrades in yours. Requisite.
SUPER!!!!!!!
