  • In this video I go over the Top 5 things you will need to know before you buy a used Ford Fusion. BONUS.. There is another very important thing you will need to know before your purchase.
We bought our 2014 Ford Fusion Titanium when it only had 9000 miles. The car was also a certified used Ford car. That means it had a better warrantee than when it was brand new! It had a 48,000 mile bumper to bumper/48 month warrantee and a 100,000 mile powertrain warrantee!
During our ownership we have keep up with the route maintenance items such as 5000 mile oil changes, air filter replacements, Brakes, tires, shocks and many more service items.
We have experienced very few major repairs due to the up keep on this vehicle But there have been a few unexpected things to go bad.
As the Ford Fusion is discontinued and these cars are hitting the used car market there will be good cars and bad cars to watch out for!
Do you research on what ever car you are buying to make sure you are getting one of the good ones. I my opinion if you are looking at a Ford Fusion that is bad its due to poor maintenance. If you buy a good one keep up on the maintenance and you will have a great car for many years to come.

I have a 2014 Ford Fusion Titanium. 466,000 miles and still going strong. Only major issues I’ve had were replacing the catalytic converter @400,000 and a recent electronic steering assist issue. No car payment since 2017! Best car I’ve ever owned!

I have a 2013 Fusion S with a 2.5L engine. It’s currently sitting at 235,000 miles and it’s still purring like a kitten. Great car! The only two issues I’ve had with it was a failed O2 sensor and the boot on the driver side CV axle busted open and leaked most of the grease out. Both were easy repairs.

    • @codybaker9554
      @codybaker9554 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@bukolaFiyin I would definitely check to see how often the transmission fluid had been changed, if ever. Next, I would make sure that the head gasket isn't blown. White smoke out of the exhaust pipe is usually a good indicator of that. Last, I would plug in a scan tool to see if there are any existing trouble codes, and if there are, then how serious are they. You don't necessarily need an expensive scanner to do that. Also, look underneath the car and make sure nothing is leaking. Those are the biggest things I would look at if I were looking into buying a car with that mileage. Good luck, and I hope this helps.

Had a 2014 that was totaled in Hurricane Harvey that I only had for like 10 months. Loved it so much I bought a brand new 2017 after the storm and had it for 5 years. One of the best driving cars I've ever had. Both were the Titanium trims with the 2.0L EcoBoost. I've never had a Toyota or Honda to compare it to, but it rode and drove so good, and had lots of power. Never any issue out of either.

I had a Ruby Red 2019 SE Fusion for just two months before I managed to hit a tree and total it. When I bought it, I was desperate for a hybrid and I was wasn’t that excited about the Fusion, but I learned to really love it in the two months I had it. I’m replacing it with another 2019 Fusion Titanium in Velocity Blue (My favorite color!). I ordered it off Vroom, which I may regret because of the waiting time it takes to get your car, but their just weren’t many choices in Fusion Hybrids locally.

My wife owns a 2015, Titanium, 2.6 turbo, silver. She dearly loves her car.
We haven't had all the issues yet. You're right about the tires. Walmart is the best source that I've found for tires.
We're currently dealing with Headlamps. I'm not going to replace the HBs just LBs. You can replace those without removing the front bumper cover.
One additional issue us the Brake Light Switch. It had a little rubber/plastic piece that brakes off. It will cause the Brake light to remain on all the time. Even with the car turned off. We had to get it replaced, twice within a month, dealer paid both times. I believe it is a recall item. There's a couple of bush fixes online. Its a well known problem. I'm glad I didn't have to do the repair.
The battery is a pain. But nothing too complicated. You do need to get the computer set for the new battery. My wife's wouldn't run right. Dealership reprogrammed it as a courtesy. As your old battery gets old it needs to charge at a different rate then a new battery. Its kind of nice and at the same time a bit of a pain.
I'll add there are a ton of aftermarket customizations that you can get for these cars. They're awesome. I bought her a rear window and rear window set of louvers. They are so cool. I'm going to change out the grill and a a chin spoiler on the front. Makes it look like a Mustang GT. Very hot.
We're going to need to keep these cars for a very long time. The country is being forced into EVs NO THANK YOU. I'll never own one. It's not necessary. The rest of the world isn't doing it. EVs SUCK. I can't imagine taking a cross country trip in one having to stop every 350 miles to recharge for 2 to 6 hours. WTH, no thanks. Any way that's another video.
What ever you do don't sell your current gas powered cars. In 3 to 5 years They're going to stop making them every mfg. California has just outlawed gas powered car sales after 2026. God Help us.
I guess this should be another video.

The 14 and newer had more electronics to cost you more in the shop when things go wrong. I like the ride for a small car and gas mileage was better then expected about 25-35. The 2010-2012 had Electronic Power steering issues that can be costly if it needs a new Rack & Pinion.

It made it to 80,000 before it blew the head gasket and all the coolant bent rod and valves. It was just out of manufacture warranty and I was still making payments. Luckily my extended policy deductible was $100.00. Ford and dealership took care of new engine and work. I still drive it and it is still my favorite vehicle. 30mph and all blacked out. Still in the process of getting a 2017 Ford Fusion sport! I drove it off the lot 5 days ago but it was leaking air pressure every time I got on the highway over 60 mph. So I had to drop it off to get the tire and a bearing replacement. Hopefully they won't try to charge me for something before I even own it technically. But I can't wait to get it back! I absolutely love it! So high-tech and fun to drive. It makes me feel safe with all the driving assistance like smart cruise control, blind spot detection. Plus, showing me the exact psi of each tire has especially been helpful, lol. I just wanted a new car with Bluetooth and I definitely got it. The only thing I think needs improvement is the stereo could be louder and needs more bass.

My parents got me the 2013 Titanium and it’s bright red last month. I’ll never forget seeing it and thinking it was at least 2018. It truly has been aging well and the red makes it looks even newer. I love the spoiler, brake lights, paddle shifters, and AWD. The titanium package really gives it that spunk for me. It has 93K miles on it and so far it’s been good for me fingers crossed. However there are some cons… the visibility is quite meh especially for blind spots, awful mpg in the city like wtf and the MyTouch is so weird when playing my music!! 🔥

I bought a 2016 Fusion SE in August 2020 with 133,842miles on it. It now has 153,235 miles. Been a damn good car. Doesn't leak, burn or drip any oil. I did have an issue with my transmission and ended up replacing it under warranty from the dealer I got the car from. I had a $600 co-pay on a $3500 repair. Not bad. I had to replace both front control arms and it does need struts and shocks soon. It handled great before the new control arms but superb after. It has been the most reliable car I have ever owned and I am looking to upgrade to a 2018 or 2019 Titanium or Sport model. I have the 1.5L turbo eco-boost.
Last July I was rear-ended by an idiot chick too busy looking at her cell phone. Did over $5000 worth of damage. Surprisingly, no glass or taillight was broken, but ever since she hit me my stereo stopped making sound. It comes on but no sound. Before it stopped working it sounded like it was shorting somewhere, but I can't find the preamp. Everything I have looked up says it is located in the trunk on the passenger side...not so. Does anyone out there have a clue as to why it would stop working? Any ideas on how to get it back. Where is the pre-amp? I miss my music.

The trans is known to commonly blow from 80-120k miles in these fusions, they ran way too hot for stock fluids. Also, the bearings they used in some fusions were not properly heat treated so they shred up prematurely. You had one of those situations. Mine is starting to sound funny even though I replaced trans fluid at 60k miles with overengineered Amsoil fluid... I'm afraid I have the bearing issue with just 1 month left on warranty!!

  • @SteelRhinoXpress

the biggest flaw to these gen fusions from 2013 to mid 2019 was the coolant intrusion issues. If ford really cared about their buyers, then they would issue at least a recall inspection for all 1.5L,1.6L and 2.0L ecoboost engines during these model years and replace the block with the updated version if needed.

About the only places I could get parts was from two Salvage yards. Rusty Acres in Jacksonville, FL, good place (they only sale Ford/ Mercury/ Lincoln parts) and a place in Washington State. All the sell are SHO parts.
Very soon in the near future its going to be an issue.

I have a stock fully loaded 15 Titanium 2.0L Turbo, (Oxford white), 18" Wheels, Red Leather interior with Driver assist package. Its my 5th Ford and my 2nd Fusion. Before that I had a 13 SE 1.6L Turbo (Ingot Grey), Beige Leather Interior with the Driver assist package. That got wrecked when some idiot blew a red light. That's how I found out how many airbags this car actually has. I like the size, Heated/cooled seats, handling, outward visibility, overall styling and Overall crash safety rating.
    Shit I dislike:
    1) Halogen lights up front. Ford should've went with LEDs to match the rear or at least made it an optional package. 2) This car eats rear brake pads. Have to replace them about twice as often as the fronts. 3} Oil seals on the 13's turbo started leaking at bout 70K miles and it started puffing blue smoke out the tail pipe occasionally during a cold start. Luckily I was still under the powertrain warranty so Ford replaced it. My 15 is staring to show the same signs but I'm at 100k so im beyond warranty coverage this time. I bought both of them Ford Certified Preowned. The 15 has had a few more issues than the 13....rear left side brake caliper piston seal failed at 96k. not a big thing, swapped it out. The biggest pain in the ass thing I find is changing blown head light bulbs. Early 2nd Gen models you have to basically remove the front bumper cover (or at least undo the top section) to get the headlight housings out to get at the bulbs. Some people claim to be able to do it with them mounted but Its virtually impossible unless you have baby hands. Not a difficult job just tedious. A few torx bolts up top and a shit load of plastic retainer clips to remove. I believe this was just an attempted money grab by Ford to get people to come in for a "Headlight Service." Coincidentally they modified the front of the engine bay on the later 2nd Gen Fusions to make changing the bulbs easier. Oh yeah, Ford Sync 2 MyFord Touch is painfully slow and laggy. Microsoft did a bad job at the interface. Sync 3 is much better, Blackberry did a better job with the interface.
The scariest failure, I feel the need to point this out in particular:
Brake booster vacuum pump. Instead of tapping the intake manifold for a vacuum source, Ford decided to use a dedicated mechanically powered vacuum pump for the brake booster. Its powered by the camshaft via a small drive adapter bolt that spins the shaft of the pump. At 95k the pump on my 15 suddenly seized up and I lost my power brakes almost immediately. I had a good 2 or 3 pumps (thanks to the check valve) and then brake pedal turned into a brick. Luckily I was parked at a gas station a few blocks from the crib and not at highway speeds with my wife driving. The problem with this design is if the pump seizes up when the motor is running the torque from the still spinning camshaft will almost always snap the drive adapter in half. If you're lucky it will shear off cleanly and you'll end up with only two pieces when you remove the pump. The loose end connected to the pump might be rattling around and the threaded bolt end should still be screwed into the end of the camshaft. That part can be removed with a bolt extractor or a pair of needle nose vise grips or pliers if enough of it is still sticking out. The pump is easily accessible and takes about ten minutes to replace. If you're unlucky, the drive adapter will shatter into many pieces and fall into the engine and you might have to replace the whole top end of the motor.
