Any idea why your mpg is so low? I have a 2014 Fusion hybrid with 175k, my dash reads 42-43mpg and I’ve reset it a number of time, both my wife and myself driving. I’ve checked those numbers at the pump with the actual odometer and they are pretty accurate.

I ordered a 2016 Fusion Energi Titanium - the plug in hybrid - and have 180,000 miles on it. Have replaced brakes once. Been through several sets of tires. That's the end of the service list. Including plug-in range, have 60MPG over the life of the car. With the CVT transmission and the gas engine as well as the electric motors, I think it's the best drivetrain have ever had in a car. It really moves when you want it to. Was shocked when they stopped making them.

I have a 2014 Fusion Hybrid. Bought it new and love it. Replaced the tires, change the oil and replaced the smaller battery that starts it last year. I don't put a lot of miles on it driving it around town. Only has 45k miles.
I was a Ford Master Tech for a very long time, but I worked for Toyota when the Hybrid first came out. They sent me to tons of training on them. I then spent years learning everything I could about Hybrid systems. I then bought a 2014 Fusion Hybrid and drover it EVERYWHERE!!! I put over 100K on it and because of my understanding of the system and exactly how it worked, I was able to get 60+ MPG, with zero modifications! Now, many people didn't like my driving if I was in traffic, but with that mileage I didn't care! I was a rude Masshole anyway! HAHAHA!!! I am now picking up a 2014 Fusion Energi Titanium Plug in and I can't wait to see what I can get on that one!!!
This is awesome to hear. This is my car that was featured in this video. Now that I have gotten used to it, my routine city trips are typically between 55-60mpg. I was also a rude Masshole myself until the hybrid "tamed" my bad driving habits. This car has literally made me a better driver. I did consider buying a plug-in but was turned off for two main reasons. First was the battery size. It literally takes up the entire trunk. That alone was a deal breaker for me. The second reason is an issue with all plug-ins that no one really talks about. Many people buy them with the intention of only driving on EV and only using the gas when they go on a long trip. The problem is gas goes bad...and it goes bad quicker than people realize. Many Jeep owners have recently learned this the hard way. Bad gas can ruin the engine. So even though most plug-ins can bring people to and from work only on EV, you still HAVE to utilize the gas often. So you pay for electricity and gas, with no trunk, and a more expensive battery.
When my 2020 Tundra got rear ended on the highway last year, I chose a Fusion Hybrid as a temporary Rental car. It rode beautifully and averaged 4.4L/100 km. I think I got 1100 km on a full tank, and it was maybe 55$ to fill up at the time. Only complaint I have is that it accelerates too slow to pass anybody on the highway. Only drove it for three weeks but was impressed
Below 120km, they are good enough to do some overtaking. Once above the Atkinson cycle engine really starts struggling. Its pretty good if you just drive like regular traffic.
Rented a Ford Fusion more than 10 years ago. Do not remember all the particulars, but remember being impressed with how fast it was, the ride and the good gas mileage.
I don't know way everyone gets so worried about their cars being built in Mexico. I work in the auto industry and after getting to know some of my coworkers I'd rather have Mexicans building my car! I've worked with a lot of Mexicans in the past and they are actually really hard workers and I trust them more than Americans auto workers.
Why? Because of the horrible experience with VW's assembled in Mexico. It has nothing to do with how hard Mexican's work, or how likeable they are. I do not see attention to detail and craftsmanship as being an essential aspect of Mexican peasant culture, and that is who works in the auto plants in Mexico. The combination of German engineering and Mexican manufacture somehow results in the worst of both cultures being combined in the finished product. I would have to think long and hard about buying any highly engineered mass market industrial product that was manufactured in Mexico based on my VW experiences.
agreed. Moreover there are popular and trusted vehicles like the Tacoma, Silverado, Ram HD and Honda HR-V that have been built in Mexico for a few years, yet people almost never complain about them. VWs have a history of being unreliable no matter what country they were made in
My girl has one of them and she couldn't be more happy. A note to everyone: to warm up engine on a Ford Fusion Hybrid, press button and give the pedal two pumps. Engine will turn on a warm up to operating mode. As soon as it turns off, you are ready to go. Thanks Again Scott for your skilled insight and knowledge of the motor world.
@@themachine8009 They offered both non plug in and plug in hybrid systems. The biggest downside with the plug in version is that there is virtually zero trunk space as the battery eats it all up. That was a deal breaker for me.
My Dad has a plug-in Titanium Fusion and for like a solid year after owning it everytime I would talk to him he'd start the convo with "guess what my MPG is!?" he was so amazed at how good it was, coming from American V8 gas pigs. Because he could charge at work and his commute is 30miles he was getting something crazy like 120MPG. The last time I talked to him about it they stopped letting him charge at his workplace so he ONLY gets 70MPG lmao.
I have a 2017 Ford Fusion Energy Platinum with 129,000. Never had a major issue, besides having to change the electrical gear shifter . HAVE NEVER CHANGED the BRAKES. Car is special 8 years strong
Glad to see you finally cover one of these! I've got a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid(first model year for it) with over 200k miles, get about 40mpg. It's been bulletproof, not an issue with for me other than some annoying rocker panel rust.
Not the hybrid, but I’ve got the 3.0 v6 2010 fusion. Loved every mile with it so far. Kinda wish I had the hybrid for the gas mileage, but the v6 engine packs lot of power for a 4 door sedan
I rented one of these in 2017 on a trip to Las Vegas. Regularly got between 45-50 MPG. Was a great car to have for the week. Ice cold air in 110 degree weather, handled the twisties beautifully.
I have a 2016 Ford Fusion with 74k miles. Never had an issue with it. Ever. Get the oil changed when needed. I change the engine and cabin air filter myself every year. Got the rear brake pads replaced. Have gone on family road trips with the wife and two kids. Have never had an issue.
I have 2019 for fusion hybrid. It averages around 42mpg. Its has a nice screen that has shows you how fuel efficient you do with braking and acceleration. Braking is great if you gradually slow down when your coming to a stop it recharges the battery even more and as a bonus the braking recharging the battery is easier on your brakes making them last longer. Cruise control helps alot with the fuel efficiency as well.
I bought a used Ford Fusion Hybrid 2018 because of Scotty. I really like this car for a great price. Is a shame they don’t make it anymore. If Ford do like toyota and keep improving the model, this could be the best American Sedan that can complete with imports. Thank you Scotty for your recommendation.
My wife had a 2010 Ford Fusion in black cherry. It was a 4 cylinder engine and we put 123k on it before we traded it in. Idk if Ford is a good brand anymore but the one we had was fantastic. Never had an issue.
Ford made a big mistake discontinuing the Fusion. I have a 2012 MKZ, basically the same thing as a Fusion, and is a generation before what Scotty has here. Excellent, reliable car.
I have this car from the last year made, 2020. It’s been great so far. No problems and it rides great. I’m getting 43 mpg in ECO drive mode. It’s not quick, but adequate. I’m also glad it doesn’t have a sunroof, since I never had a need for it in my other cars, and it’s one less thing to go wrong.
Have a 2014 Fusion Hybrid. Has been great! 41-43 mpg every tank. Have only 95K miles. Done only oil and fluid changes with new set of tires. Goes up to 500 miles on a tank go gas, love that mileage! Great review Scotty!! Right on the money.

I really liked the Fusion hybrid. It was that car that got me looking into hybrids and EVs. Picked up a new 2023 Prius about a month ago. Love it. Has as much power as my Taurus, and looks really nice.
One thing I will note...on averaging 35mpg. I'm actually getting MUCH better than that. Closer to 50 in city driving...sometimes more. Being a Masshole, I used to drive like a maniac and this car has made me change my bad habits and drive slower and safer. When I purchased this, the average mpg displayed was at 24. Having had the vehicle now for 2 months, its bumped up to 36, but most city trips its usually 44mpg minimum.
Owner of a 2018 Fusion Hybrid and I too have to admit. Owning a hybrid changes your driving habits. I'm from LA and driving all over Southern California in this made me drive safer and more carefully. I still push it hard occasionally but not as much as before.
I’m second owner of a 13’ hybrid, I have 273K miles, I’ve changed coils/plugs, keep up with reg oil/filter changes, & I get about 38 MPG. Great daily driver! It was still offered as a new vehicle on the line

Hey Scotty I have a 2014 Ford CMax Energi Plug-in with this system in it assembled in Detroit and it will not die! Problem free with 101k miles on it so far
How do you like your CMax? They were interesting little cars and I am surprised they never really caught on. Personally I would have taken a CMax over a Focus hatch in a heartbeat if those were my options.
I'm 55 YO and had many cars in my life. I traveled A LOT for work so I rented (HOE) many models. When I was provided a Fusion in North Carolina, I began to request it and eventually decided I want one for myself. In 2013 I bought a 2014 Titanium version and it's been my baby ever since. Few issues aside from the back up cameras intermittent failure to function and, the starring wheel controls (replaced 2 times) consistence failure. I still love her and, yes I meant her. Wify don't care too much for that but, hey she has her nail guy, I have my car. 260K miles and she still puts out like she was 2022. :-) I'm not crazy, just crazy about her. Well, maybe I am crazy but I do love her and Wify now does to.
That is so cool to hear. My mother has a 2016 with the smaller screen and back up camera. Has persistent work/doesn't work feature on the camera like you mentioned. Other than that, no issues whatsoever. The vehicle in this video is mine and still am loving it. It's not as quick off the line as my mothers full gas version, but the gas mileage really wins out at the end of the day. My tank is now averaging 6 weeks between fill ups. And that's with a smaller tank. $3.65 a gallon costs me less than $30 to fill up when it's a quarter tank left. Literally $5 a week on gas.
Hi. So cool your car is in this video! Im actually considering buying a 2019 fusion hybrid SE with 73k miles. Original owner. Ive never owned a hybrid before. My biggest concern is do i have to worry about replacing the hybrid battery. Or is that something i really shouldn't worry about. What year is your hybrid? Thanks! h@robertgreenhalge1708
Not sure about weight, but the newer models are bigger than the original Fusion. AWD will make a big difference on mpg. Your 2012 got incredible gas mileage given the engine.
I agree with you, Scotty. Giving up on the sedan business is a mistake. The next vehicle I purchase, I plan on buying a manual transmission. I want to keep the demand for manuals active so they don't disappear.
I will say, what Scotty says about the Prius' ride is spot on. I test drove one before I test drove the Fusion and couldn't believe how harsh it was. Recently in strict city driving I'm averaging close to 50mpg. I wish it had more options, but hey, thats what they had and Im happy with it.
@@Winterstick549 Will do that for the Camry in the future. I will never buy anything but midsize or large sedans. Nothing else interests me. Been buying Fords my entire life because I have had good luck with them. This Fusion will most likely be my last Ford purchase.

I have this car. 2019. It’s a great car to drive. I have taken it on countless road trips, over the Grapevine to the Central Valley and to Monterey Bay. I’ve been to Los Vegas and Arizona. Like this car, it has near 65k on it. This Fusion runs exactly like it did when I bought it over 4 years ago. It’s not a race car, but you can go fast on the interstates. My Ford dealers in Orange County have taken good care of me and this car. What kind of advice would you give me for the 65,000 mile service on the car? I use it as a great commute car. My son and I work in the same area at a school district 45 miles away. He really likes driving the car! Good video, Scotty!
I went to Clearwater Florida on a course and hired one of these hybrids a few years ago (they are a Mondeo in the UK) and it was a nice car. I've had a Gen 2 and gen 3 prius and yes the ride was nowhere near as good as the Fusion.
My grandpa had 2 of these cars. One was a 2013 Hybrid SE and one was a 2018 Hybrid Titanuim. Not our type of cars because we aren't rly a fan of the technology and they are finicky. But other than that we haven't rly had a major problem with either of them. they are both very nice and comfortable cars. I have a 2019 Ford Fusion hybrid plug in and I really like it. No problems thus far. Great gas mileage and this car has all the technology. I too think Ford made a mistake by discontinuing this model. Thanks for letting me know it has lots of Toyota technology in it. That explains its reliability. It's more like a real car than a Prius and well worth the lower gas mileage.
I drove the Ford Fusion Hybrid back in 2013. The dealer was a Ford/KIA dealer. The salesman encouraged me to test drive a 2012 KIA Optima Hybrid. It was night and day difference in the drive train noise. The CVT transmission is very loud compared to my Optima Hybrid. As I recall, the Fusion was rated at 39mpg, I get 40 to 43 mpg in the summer 36 mpg in the winter with my 2012 KIA Optima Hybrid. I've owned it for 10 years come July of this year and have 175,000 miles on it.
I’m on my third Ford Fusion Hybrid, all purchased used. I don’t know about the first one because I lost it in a divorce. 2nd one bought was a 2012 with 52,000 miles and traded at 156,000 miles. Replaced front struts, a half-shaft and a front wheel bearing. Other than that, trouble free. Just bought a used 2018 with 48,000 miles. Like this newer style better. Not happy Ford gave up on a good vehicle.
125k miles and 10 years later I'm just now replacing my brakes, plugs and struts on my 2014 plug in hybrid. The only issues I've had were about two or three recall issues related to potentially major issues. The Synch radio system was my first issue preceding the safety recall issues with the car till the Synch upgrade which, was fine for about 1 year then, it could no linger be upgraded. The system mostly still works except my NAV maps are outdated. The hybrid battery retains about 80% of it's original capacity. Overall a very solid car.
Ford’s and Toyotas hybrid technology have lots of shares patents. It was discovered they both manufactures came up with very similar tech. So Ford uses their own hybrid tech and Toyota uses their own.. they just use similar tech
@@lalalalalala624The only Aisin in the Fusion was the 6 speed from 2006-2009. Not sure about the CVT but Ford did make their own CVT in-house at some point.
Cool to see Scotty finally covered the Fusion Hybrid. As an owner of a FFH/MKZh I was dreading the day when Scotty released a video about how FFH is trash and a clunker. I'm releived he called it filled with "toyota technology". I look forward to driving my FFH/MKZh for many more years.
I was hoping Scotty was going to mention the front-end styling was copied from Aston Martin and Jaguar when Ford had a partnership with them in the early 2000s. One of the main reasons I bought one. The poor man's Aston Martin. 😂

Just Replaced my enginedue to timing belt failure/ knocking in my 2017 Ford Fusion at 165,000 Miles . Never had issues with it, no check engine light only had to replace the shifter bushing once for $4. Great vehicle! 🚗
I probably have the highest mileage of any of these Ford Fusion Hybrids. Mine is a 2013 Energi wth 245,000 miles. Still runs perfectly. The full electric mileage has dropped from an original 17 miles to 12 miles. I did need to replace a left rear wheel bearing. I am the second owner. Purchased it 4 years ago for $5,500 when it had 180,000 miles on it. Best car deal I ever made. I could show it to you when you go back to Tennessee.
Just out of curiosity...does the 2010 and older models have the same Prius engine as this one in the video? I hope so cuz if so that's good news for me!
I traded my ‘18 Fusion 1.5 in on a ‘22 Camry XSE 2.5. I honestly am somewhat disappointed in the Camry’s amenities compared to the Fusion. When you’re talking $10k difference in price I was expecting more from Toyota.
I have a 2015 Fusion Hybrid 180,000 miles I only change oil and Fluids it has been a great car!!! Is a shame the don't make it anymore but at least in Europe they make the Mondeo !!!
Don't buy those LED headlight upgrades. The headlight reflector is designed for the light pattern from the original incandescent, not the one from the LED. Using an LED upgrade in one of those can result in light shining in other drivers' eyes. In fact, it's actually illegal to use those for that very reason. On some cars (looks like the Fusion Hybrid included), you can get aftermarket LED headlight assemblies that are fine and legal - just make sure you get one that's DOT approved.
I bought a 2019 w 64k miles. Beautiful car, but when it's warmed up, occasionally it won't start. Come back later and it starts? Dealership replaced computer, no change. So they don't know yet. I heard it could be a loose wire in the harness. Open for suggestion.
Too bad the Taurus didn't get a hybrid model. They're big comfy cars! The fusion is also pretty spacious. The Taurus hss the twin turbo v6 though and makes for a great sleeper!
I was considering the plug in version...until I seen the trunk. It almost literally doesn't have one. The battery takes up all the space. And they were MUCH more expensive than the regular hybrid. Only about 20 miles of EV range in real life. The regular hybrid charges itself as opposed to buying and installing a charger. For the money, charging, and space issues, the regular hybrid seems a better buy.
Nah I just recently bought a 2019 plug in version and it is amazing only a couple grand more and easily I will only be buying gas once a month or less If you have just the hybrid it doesn’t recharge itself because you can’t drive on only electric battery because there isn’t one hence the plug in. Can charge in like 2 hours easily such a nice way to get into the electric market to see before buying an all electric vehicle. Best car I’ve ever bought so far
My mom has a MY18 Fusion Energi PHEV. She loves it - the lifetime is around 2.8L/100km and the comfort and space are excellent. Ford had made a great car, but a shame they discontinued them in favor for big ticket trucks and SUVs.
I don't see how is only getting MPG in the 30s. My family had a 2014 Fusion Hybrid and got consistently 42-43 MPG with mixed driving and not driven meekly either.
I have a 2019 that I bought with 40k miles. I get 42-44 mpg (I commute 100+ miles through the Mojave desert 4x per week). It'll only go a few miles purely on battery, but I can nurse it up to about 55 on flat ground before the gas motor starts. Around 33% of the odometer miles are on battery, so I change the oil every 5k. I've changed the trans fluid twice (~50 and 100k). One of the things I really like is the engine - port injection and a timing CHAIN.

Scottie nailed this review...The fusion hybrid is one of Ford's most reliable late models and the Toyota engineering with a simple 2.0 liter non turbo engine make it a great pretty trouble free workhorse. Have the 2019 and have been more than happy with it averaging 39 mpg.
I'm sure that the hybrid model have less trunk capacity because the battery is stored in there, can I ask if it has ever been a problem for you? Is it also possible to fold the 2nd row down? I've been looking at some Fusions for sale but want to know what trunk space is like in the hybrid model.

I have a 2014 Fusion Hybrid. Bought it new and love it. Replaced the tires, change the oil and replaced the smaller battery that starts it last year. I don't put a lot of miles on it driving it around town. Only has 45k miles.
Ok uncle
Sell me the car

I have 2013 Energi it slips at acceleration start up. Like the tire slips. Would you know why?
I love the car hope trans isn’t going. Melbourne, FL
Did you try using sport mode to go faster?

I was gonna say, at least in America, Mexicans work really hard. So I trust them
Because of terrible quality and jobs that should be in the US.
agreed. Moreover there are popular and trusted vehicles like the Tacoma, Silverado, Ram HD and Honda HR-V that have been built in Mexico for a few years, yet people almost never complain about them.
VWs have a history of being unreliable no matter what country they were made in
Ford’s quality control is non existent
My girl has one of them and she couldn't be more happy. A note to everyone: to warm up engine on a Ford Fusion Hybrid, press button and give the pedal two pumps. My 2017 Fusion Hybrid/Titanium ( plugin) has been flawless. By far best car I have ever owned.
So u can get this car hybrid but with plug in an plugless and still hybrid?
@@themachine8009 They offered both non plug in and plug in hybrid systems. The biggest downside with the plug in version is that there is virtually zero trunk space as the battery eats it all up. That was a deal breaker for me.
My Dad has a plug-in Titanium Fusion and for like a solid year after owning it everytime I would talk to him he'd start the convo with "guess what my MPG is!?" he was so amazed at how good it was, coming from American V8 gas pigs.

If you have just the hybrid it doesn’t recharge itself because you can’t drive on only electric battery because there isn’t one hence the plug in. Can charge in like 2 hours easily such a nice way to get into the electric market to see before buying an all electric vehicle. Best car I’ve ever bought so far
I have a 2012 2.5 6 speed manual.. with 24k miles. WOULDN'T CHANGE IT FOR ANY OTHER CAR...
My Ford Fusion Energi does 190 MPG.
Probably does, hes probably just going of specs on paper
Yeah, something's up with that. I have a 2010 Fusion Hybrid with nearly 220k miles and it easily gets 40mpg still. Sounds like a lead foot driver.
I had a 2013 Fusion plug in hybrid…great car!
I just got a 2017 Ford fusion SE it's not a hybrid or anything but it's really nice looks like that one has the electric shifter thing it's clean for sure
Is it reliable? How many miles?
I also have a 2017 Ford Fusion Se and it's got over 100,000 here in California. Just change it's oil every 5000 miles and just recently had a front brake job done. Oh and New Spark Plugs. Great car and is really reliable❤
@@FrozenDonut13 The non plug in version has less trunk space than the standard fusion but absolutely plenty of room for day to day use...8 to 10 grocery bags, two large suitcases...etc. no problem for me
@@FrozenDonut13 Yes, the rear seat folds dowh for longer items to pass throigh like a flatscreej tv
@@iracohen3864 Thank you for the clarification. Have only looked at non hybrid models so I wasn't sure about the trunk space.
@@FrozenDonut13 Also here in San Francisco you see many being used as taxis...
Clicked over 200,000 yesterday in my ‘13 hybrid! Tires and oil. No complaints. (Original brakes!)
200k Miles or Kilometers?
I'm always thought that fusions were a team effort with Subaru because they look a lot like Subaru cars... Interesting to know that Toyota had a hand in it
I had a 2008 fusion 3.0 liter engine. I think that fusion was created out of a partnership with Volvo. Great car sold it with 196000 Miles only work done other than regular maintenance was fuel pump and 02 sensor.
I get a consistent between 50 and 55 miles per gallon average between tanks of gas in my 2012 Toyota Prius.
Also known as the Ford Mondeo in Europe.
My 2017 Chevy Cruze hatch gets 43 MPG, without being a hybrid. Awesome car, I've never had issues with my Cruze.
I liked the Fusion / Mondeo very much. Too bad Ford is not selling them anymore. I'd buy a Ford with Toyota hardware, instead I just bought a Toyota.
They are still making them in China, and the 2023 is beautiful, too bad we can’t get it
@@Shinobi6677 Yes Daniel I know that they are available in China and some Middle East countries as well - it's a new model and it looks great. Unfortunately we can't get them in Europe either.
