    I'm currently gettibg 40.5 mpg in my 2013 ford fusion hybrid SE. I love this car!

    For the most part, I've been getting 42 MPG in my 2013 Fusion Hybrid. Driving conditions have a very big impact on the fuel economy. On cold days winter days, fuel economy drops. Warmer days are better. Also, if you're stuck in bumper2bumper traffic, you'll see decent MPG since you'll mostly be coasting on battery power.
    It's a great commuter car for major cities and as long as you don't lead foot, you'll see good fuel economy with the 2013 FFH.

    I just bought a 2016 Fusion Hybrid SE, and so far I'm getting just over 40 average with a lot of highway driving, and the A/C running. I expect to get better mpg when it cools down and I don't have to use the A/C. It is an awesome car, I'm very happy with my purchase. And with the end of the model year blowouts, (some 2017's were already on the lot) I got a great deal on it too.

    I had this car as a rental for 18 days. I was sure I wouldn't like it (I'm a BMW guy)... I liked it a lot, 430 miles later, it took 10 gallons of gas, and it drove fine.

    I have a 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid SE model, and it is identical to the 2013, except for a few of the button labeling. It is a wonderful car, even for its weight of almost two tons. I get over 40 MPG on every long trip, I have reached 54 MPG, and my average as displayed in the left side of the dashboard is over 30 MPG. On short trips I can drive with low acceleration on battery energy alone about a mile before the gas engine comes on. The regerative braking keeps a score on the dashboard left, and I try ti hit 100% every time I slow down so all my kinetic energy from the gasoline returns to the battery and reuse as I accelerate again. As for the 2.0 liter gas engine, it has no belts! All the accessories are electric. Maintenance is nonexistent. In five years of ownership, it has only need an annual oil change ($45 at dealer). That is it!!
    That battery case in the trunk takes up less than a quarter of the trunk space. For some shopping trips, that step actually helps to keep small bags and boxes from sliding around (I also have the net in the rear trunk). My interior is also black cloth, so I bought special Ford-labeled seat covers at Walmart to protect them and keep them clean.
    Ford has produced an excellent midsized sedan, and it is Ford best selling sedan! Yet Ford will stop offering the Fusion in the U.S. after 2020, but the Mondeo in Europe will add a station wagon version that would be a big hit if it was offered here.
    I hope someone at Ford reads all the TH-cam comments as they are allowing the imports to take away this segment.

    My dad wanted one of these, Ford and Hyundai is coming up. Tired of going after a honda and I sure as don't like toyota's old people cars as I am young. This is a nice alternative. It bugs me when people say "Can't go wrong with a honda or toyota" I love that other car makers are coming in hard after the accord, civic and camry. I agree with my dad on this, the ford fusion is definitely worth it in the long run.

    I just bought a 2015 Fusion Hybrid. I've been playing the 'how efficient can I drive' game he spoke of and I've been getting the 47 mpg combined. It all depends on how you drive it. I don't race the other cars going to work - I keep to the right lane and go around 60-65 mph. It also depends on weather conditions. The direction of the wind makes a big difference. Also you don't get good mileage in the rain. I've only had the car a week, but so far I enjoy it.

      Daniel Heitz Noice! I typically get 42-45 going 70 on the highway, myself. It's almost a bit disheartening when you think you have good braking, but then you hit below 80 one time.

    • @RiffRock51
      @RiffRock51 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Daniel Heitz How is your mileage now, about a year after owning the car? Are you still getting 47 MPG? Also, do you calculate your MPG manually? I don't really trust the onboard MPG computers in cars, I've seen them be off by 3 or 4 MPG.

      I've gotten recently 59.1 off my last trip of 21 miles. It really comes down to gaming your roads and knowing how to use the hybrid system. I would post a photo as proof but youtube doesnt do it. I'm going to start a channel on driving the FFH for the best milage possible.

    I can say this, before I found out my orders will be soon here to go back home, (U.S.), I almost bought a 2011 Ford Mondeo. I just sold my 1996 Mondeo to get the 2011, then I got word I was leaving. I can tell you 1 thing.. the Mondeo here is an awesome stylish car and I am happy to see that the Ford Fusion is stepping up to one of the best American Fords!! Like Mr. Csere said about his height, I can understand. I am 6'2" and had no problem getting in or out of the car. I hope to own someday the Ford Fusion Energi Titanium model! Great review!

    Don't know if this was pointed out already or not, but you may have gotten worse mpg because of the way you were driving it. Most hybrid owners know that you use your cruise control as much as possible to get the most out of your car when you're not trying to feather it to get more MPG's. Most people tend to be heavy on the foot, that is why you should use the CC whenever you can. Just a heads up is all, thanks for the great vid review!

    Great review, I just picked up a 2014 about 3 weeks ago. I love the car. If you are not driving long distance, you can almost drive on batteries. my work is about 20 miles round trip and i go back and forth on batteries. Sometimes when I use the AC, the engine starts at the end of the trip. Ford has great price reductions and rebates. I got a nice deal recently.

I have made 47+ five or six times, 48+ twice, and 49+ once. Other times vary between 40+ as a low and around 45+ most times. I am not hypermiling or driving really slow. Very happy so far!

    Funny this review was featured. My parents went to look at the new Fusion, looking to trade in their '11 Hybrid Fusion. We took it for a drive, it felt more sporty than practical. Their '11 Fusion was just a smoother driver. Then they took a look at the C-max! My mom was really impressed with it, it's got similar power and just feels more comfortable than the '13 Fusion.
    They ended up trading their fusion for a more practical C-max with similar packaging. I couldn't be happier, my niece hates!

    I have a 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid and during the summer, I can regularly get 45+ mpg during a week of commuting to work. Winter I am getting about 41. Running the heater certainly makes a difference in this car. I would still recommend this to anyone. Thanks to that electric motor, climbing the mountains and hills of Washington State, this car has little trouble getting going, despite the little 2.0 it has mated to it.

  • @MarcDuBois

    Great Review. I own one of these and I just wanted to let you know that I have been averaging 42.5mpg, that's over the course of 3500 miles so far. I'd say it's 90%+ Highway miles. I saw that number go up to 45mpg one tank when I was driving more back roads. That was using the cruise control around 45-50mph. FYI (I also have the adaptive cruise control) ... and use it, it's awesome!
    Also, there is a software update for the 2013 model to supposedly help with the mpg's... we will see. I hope so!

    Great review. He's honest about both the pros and cons. I'm glad he mentioned the discrepancy with the EPA MPG ratings. Just as Consumer Reports found, it gets about 38 MPG overall, not 47 MPG. That's a big discrepancy, although 38 MPG overall is still excellent.

    • @nmende00
      @nmende00 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      38 mpg is great for a gas powertrain, but not acceptable for a hybrid powertrain bc you pay a 10-20% price penalty to get the better fuel economy

    • @RiffRock51
      @RiffRock51 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Wayne how is 38 mpg not acceptable for a hybrid powertrain? the only other hybrid sedan of this size that gets 38 mpg is the Toyota Camry Hybrid. Sure, a prius gets 44 mpg, but its smaller and doesn't ride, handle, or accelerate as well as the fusion hybrid. What mpg would the fusion hybrid have to get for you to deem it acceptable?

    • @nmende00
      @nmende00 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Noonan The MPG would have to be high enough that the cost of the drivetrain "upgrade" would pay for itself in savings at the pump in 3-5 years, the average length of car ownership. If the hybrid cost $5,000 (+ sales tax) more than a nonhybrid, then I would have to save $1,000 a year in fuel compared to a non hybrid to see my investment pay off in 5 years.
      I spend about $1500 a year in fuel on a 26 mpg car right now. If someone told me I could retrofit a hybrid powertrain to my car for $5,000, I would have to double my fuel economy (52 mpg) to cut my annual fuel bill by $750!
      You dont buy hybrids to save money. I bought my car for $6,000; there is no way I am going to pay $5,000 for a drivetrain upgrade to save a few hundred bucks. Capiche?

    • @RiffRock51
      @RiffRock51 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Wayne When I said that 38 MPG for the fusion hybrid is excellent, I was saying that its excellent considering the fusion's size, ride, and acceleration, completely unrelated to the price charged by Ford dealerships. The MSRP of the different drivetrains is a whole other issue.
      Also, people don't necessary buy hybrids just to try to save money, they also want them because they're far better for the environment and also make the US less dependent on foreign oil.
      Also, if you bought a fusion hybrid and actually kept it for the life of the car (say, 15 years), then that's 15 years worth of saving on gas over the life of the car, not just 3-5 years. And if you did resell the car after 3-5 years, it would have higher resale value then a gasoline powered Fusion. I see your viewpoints, but I'm just sayin'.

    • @nmende00
      @nmende00 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Noonan I am do not agree that hybrids are better for the evironment. Lithium is a toxic metal and there is no cost effective way to recycle them because it is still cheaper to mine in Latin America than it is to recover the lithium from the old batteries.
      www.waste-management-world.com/articles/print/volume-12/issue-4/features/the-lithium-battery-recycling-challenge.html
      Stating that a hybrid will always have a higher resale value is not true. Depreciation is dependent on demand for that model. Demand for hybrids is low compared to nonhybrids. Only 2-3% of the nation's new car sales are hybrids, 97% of the country does not want to buy a new hybrid so to say that a less desirable vehicle would have a better resale value is ludicrous.
      auto.howstuffworks.com/resale-value-of-hybrid-vehicles.htm
      Battery performance is going to degenerate significantly faster than in cooler climates. The fear of buying a used hybrid without knowing how long the large battery pack is going to last is out there bc people are afraid of the hidden cost of a possible battery replacement if its not covered under warranty.
      Used car dealers in northern states like to advertise "florida cars" when they are selling gas cars bc the idea is that they are in better shape bc of the milder winters, but buying a florida hybrid might not be as good of a deal if the battery has seen many hot summers, shortening its useful lifespan.

    5 years later I bought one of these cars a 2017 leftover Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid. It's a superb car not only is it the nicest car I have ever owned it also the best deal in a car that I have ever owned. Of course part of that is $4,007 Federal rebate but also the sedan segment right now is extremely competitive and prices are depressed. If you are looking for a car that gets fantastic gas mileage and is fun to drive and looks great and can be loaded with super high tech you can't go wrong with a Ford Fusion!

    I know Ford did some reprogram work on their Hybrids, and I easily get 46MPG with normal driving. Although I've been used to Regen brakes for awhile.

    I love your reviews. I'm not really into these types of cars but your informative and detailed reviews are a nice change of pace from the usual 0-60, 1/4 mile and a few laps on the track reviews that last about 8 minutes. Can you please review some enthusiast vehicles as well? I would love to hear your take on everything from BRZ's to Porsches.

    So good to see that he compared Fusion to the Camry and said, hands down the Fusion rides better... add that to the fact that Ford beats Toyota on mileage in every segment, and you've got a total home run...

    Another great, in depth analysis; the reason I've been reading the magazine since before I could actually drive. Thanks.

    Yeah I just spoke with someone from Ford on their official website here in the U.S. And its true that the V6 option has been replaced with their 2.0L turbocharged. Which is not so bad considering its such an up to date modern engine.

    Keep on doing these long detailed reviews letting people know the stuff they really need and want like comfort engine noise all that. 1 question what is going on with the touch points in American cars lately.
