I've always thought this song would be easy to play but always liked how big it sounds...i feel the same for clockwork. Simple but with a big sound.
I think the main riff has a similar vibe to the main/intro riff in Try to Survive. Not that they sound identical, but the fact that they’re a good “intro” Chimaira riff to learn for new guitar players or ones new to playing Chimaira. They’re both simpler riffs but super fun to play and have a great groove.
Nice of you to do another Quick riff lesson Rob. One of the best songs from the age of hell album. A part from my favorite song Trigger finger. A simple and easy song to play losing my mind. Enjoyed how you broke the song down.

One thing I always loved about this band was the riffs would go from that fear factory esque riffs n kick dynamic into more hardcore punk chord riffs and then into those single note runs all backed up by the keys and ambience. If we’re gunna class chimaira as a Precursor to main stream metalcore(which allot of us do) they really did lay allot of groundwork outside of the Gothenburg influence that would come to typify the genre moving forward.
It was always ‘impossibility of reason’ ‘alive or just breathing’ ‘clayman’ and ‘natural born chaos’ by soilwork spinning in my CD player at that time in my life

Which is why my ears are so thirsty for more jems that I'm sure you have laying around! It's been far too long, the world is ready and waiting for when you are.
There's no other band in history I want back more than Chimaira! In the meantime this excellent channel is keeping me very satisfied though :)

Superb as always dude, nice and clear instructions. There are so many songs that are based on one or several riffs or ideas not just Chimarias but numerous bands who take a simple idea and turn it into a full song. How do you have so much confidence in one riff? I asked Mark once and he just said "when you know, you know"

Hey Rob! Got a question for ya. A little background first. So I was in highschool when I discovered Chimaira. You guys were on tour with Trivium and Whitechapel on the "into the mouth of hell we tour" tour in 2009 at Clutch Cargo in Detroit. At the time I wasn't familiar with Chimaira but was a big fan of Whitechapel. Anyway when you guys when on I was instantly blown away. The thing that caught my attention the most was not just the bands sound but how the light show synced up exactly with the songs and the riffs. Everything from strobe lights being on time with the kick drum to how the colors would change as the riffs progressed. I couldn't take my eyes off of it. You guys stole the show shat night and ever since then I've been curious about how you went about syncing your lights up to the music so well. Maybe you could make a video on that? Or just an answer here would be cool too, thanks! Also if you have any old lighting you guys used to use way back in the day I think that would be cool to make a video on. I've been a huge Chimaira fan ever since that night and y'all are still a big inspiration on my own guitar playing and writing. Cheers! 🍻

Welcome aboard man! I like to have a little touch of reverb on my tone. It smoothes out the minutia of everything, but I don't think that's something you should worry too much about early in your playing journey.
