Such denial ..... Massive damage will take years to recover from. 2 1/2 years after Ian , people still not back in their homes on Sanibel Island. Woke Asheville "newspaper" not admitting the many many deaths not reported. Maybe never reported. Truth matters, even in DNCCP Buncombe county.
They say a large encampment of homeless people were washed away but they are not talking about that. The locals and SARS know about this.
Lots of people were washed away. It is heartbreaking.
I think we have not reached the end for the reports yet.
Looks fine to me.
Parts are!
This is great. So good to see one of our favorite places again. I sure missed this. Is the cupcake place ok? Yum!
Yes, they are open!
Praying for the whole area! ❤❤❤
Thank you!
Thanks Beth! It's good to see this - I have 7 family members living in Black Mountain who just returned home a couple of days ago.
I am so glad to hear that! 🙏That was a long time to be away.
Does anyone know how the roads are in Brevard around December and during the winter time aside from the Helene but just in general how the roads are to drive on? Full of ice or anything?
No, not too icy. The last 2 winters have been pretty mild.
@ Awesome! Thank you for responding. I’m from Georgia, about 40 minutes south of Atlanta and my town and the surrounding towns never get ice or snow. We celebrate when we see one flurry falling down. Lol
I love watching your videos every weekend while I mow my lawn. I learn more about each town and get updates on the state of affairs with the recovery. It wasn’t lost on me that the FEMA rep said you can’t take video. We have first amendment rights and they already have a bad reputation. They are supposed to work for the people and transparency is a right and their obligation as employees of the people. And the violation of your rights and violation of their obligation of transparency is not lost on me. I pray for the continued success of your real estate business and WNC.
I'm glad you are enjoying the videos and I will try to be as transparent as possible! 🙏
Probably don’t advocate for feeding bears and letting them walk into homes. Let me explain to all of you what happens when you teach bears that it’s ok to walk into homes and then feed them. They learn this behavior and can’t differentiate between homes where people let them do this and homes where they can’t. This leads to them being euthanized and or people being hurt or killed. It’s disgusting that people think this is ok to do. It’s already a shame people from here don’t know how to live with bears keeping both parties safe last thing we need is a bunch of people moving here feeding the bears and letting them come on in their homes.
I agree, it’s not a good idea to invite bears into your home.
Hi, Beth. Another great episode! I'm currently reading "1984" again. And "Eight Bears" by Gloria Dickie just came in the mail today. Speaking of bears, I need to get one of those air horns! I've seen a LOT of bears around this fall - I bet it has something to do with them losing their homes in the woods due to Helene. 😢
I bet you are correct, a lot of animals are wandering around right now.
Very colorful Sporan..There was this baboon one-time...
Ha! I had to look that up!
Lettuce celebrate Broccoli Mountain, NC!!!

Please differentiate “Black Mtn proper” and the rest of the enormous land area of Black Mtn. Like you said, route 9 and the surrounding areas were Destroyed. I live way out rte 9 near the Bat Cave line. That is Black Mtn. Total devastation. We were cut off from everyone and everything. Still waiting for FEMA to inspect what’s left of my property. We need help, not tourists.
Yes! Exactly, thank you for pointing that out. 💔

Come on Girl, all our Ashville, or Eastern Tenn, water flow is questionable! You need to tell the truth in your shows!!!!
Asheville water is still non-potable. I’ve mentioned that several times. I don’t live in eastern Tennessee and do not cover that area. I always tell the truth. 💗
My heart is still breaking for all of our friends in NW Carolina! Who, I am so happy that the Biltmore is open for the Holidays!!!! The terrible distruction in NW Carolina, Asheville, Black Mountain, and all of our friends and family that service the Ashvile and Biltmore Village, and the Biltmore Estate! I will say that we have visited the Biltmore Estate for so many years as members, until my health has declined! If I can buy a scooter to help me and my buddy travel across the estate like we did in 2019 We are in our 70's and cannot do the walk, but we can do the talk and can do the taste, and we can do our dinner at the Bistrodo the drink of the wine!
I bet they can accommodate you! I’d give them a call And ask. 🫶
I’ve lived in Asheville my entire life since 1990 to now, so 35 years I have been here. Over that span of time I have experienced Ashevilles feel completely change. It is not “progressive” it’s just a hideout for deadbeats who fled their own city for really strange reasons like being a sexual predator, drug addict etc. This “Town” (not a city) has been completely taken over by a different feel than it once had. It’s full of miserable people, miserable lifestyle and miserable mindset. Unless you like filthy little commie marxists spitting in your coffee before they serve it to you with a fake smile-then don’t move here.
Trump 2024!!! He will fix Asheville! I live in Black Mnt.
I think Asheville will become stronger after Helene
I know it will. We are seeing it every day. 😊
So HEARTBREAKING what happened! Great to see them coming back and building up. 💔 😭 💝
Love Black Mountain and Montreat. My favorite place to go while on Asheville.
At 4 am while the storm is still going on outside, my daughter and I hear the men in our neighborhood out with chainsaws cutting trees out of roads and driveways. It took two or three full days of that before vehicles could even think of leaving. Please remind folks there are still a lot of roads that aren't ready for recreational travel yet. Some are gravel now, many are one way, and some may still be closed or closed to public. Also as everyone knows we were hit HARD a lot of families still don't have homes, water power and so on. Yes this is usually a tourist town, BUT people are now being told they can't rebuild. They can't put in anymore campers for temporary housing to help those living in tents. They aren't giving permits or approving some areas due to the "flood zone" or "1000 year flood areas, which is BS. Because while they hinder the locals and make it harder than it already is, they are on begging for tourism. Any available housing NEEDS TO BE FOR LOCALS THAT HAVE LOST EVERYTHING. I don't care how it sounds, I'm sick of our governments greed being the deciding factor in our neighbors lives. I have seen the absolute best in humanity pour itself all over these mountains in helping one another no questions asked. (Well except for FEMA, telling people to skip over places that had Trump signs up) Anyway if you do come to the area keep in mind our community is still without basic needs in many areas and a lot of us are still hurting. People are still missing or morning those no longer with us. So don't come in using up all the resources sent here from churches all across the nation in order to help locals. Not be used to support tourist coming gawking at the destruction.
Thank you so much for bringing your comment here. Yes💔, there is much healing still very much in process .
Shinning rock I love you and my heart and prayers are with you ❤❤❤❤
I lived in Biltmore commons for 9 yrs tbh it’s really strict with the HOA and I would say it’s suited well to retired ,single, or couples but not w children. It’s quiet and safe.
It’s doesn’t flood every time there’s heavy rain the last time we had flooding in Biltmore was about 20 yrs ago. Ive lived right on border of Asheville and Leicester for 31 yrs. Also I haven’t seen FEMA even though I know they’ve had a presence here the main help has come from private citizens.
Sorry, should I have said, every time we have a flood, That are is the first to go.
There was a time we were looking into Burnsville for a vacation home area. They got hit hard by the hurricane didn’t they.
The middle of this video - where it's all about people helping people - 100% saw the same thing. Everyone for everyone, always.
All ONE! 💗
How has the insurance industry reacted to the disaster? Are they hiking up premiums?
I can tell which of my neighbors in Asheville have a second home in another area because they are GONE. It is much less crowded in stores and even on the interstate, and it is likely due to the city water problem.
How convenient to have second and third homes. 🙄
Thanks for your efforts to keep us informed. I stopped visiting downtown AVL due to the aggressive homeless/drug addicts who would pursue me screaming at me. With fewer visitors in general right now could one be even more of a target? I know several people who moved out of AVL due to this situation. Thank you for any advice you can share 🙏💖✨
I’ve never been screamed at or followed but who knows. I’ve been downtown several times and it is very peaceful right now. Less busy, but nice.
How is it that so many people seem to encounter these homeless people except you Beth?@@livinginasheville
The reports I've heard is over 100,000 residents of WNC houses were effected. So whatever from that that's homeless now is A LOT. It is mostly where I go as to what you may experience, I avoid Asheville at all cost but I work there, I definitely don't go at night thinking it's safe or welcoming. But those that were displaced due to the storm is not the ones you need worry about harassing you! Your probably talking about the drug addicts and bums, honestly I've seen very few of this crowd since the flood. But please keep in mind, we have thousands of ill willed criminals in our country right now, a lot of dangerous folks been released all around so no matter where u go, keep your head on a swivel and always have a means of protection!! Always! 😊
Love to see your playful quirkiness resurfacing. Great video. I had two questions. I actually heard town mountain had some extensive damage but maybe I was mistaken. Also do you see any issues with getting insurance for older homes or any homes in the area looming in the future?
I do not. They say the chances of this happening again are so small but who knows these days! I would think flood zones are being redefined and those areas would be impacted, otherwise, we should be ok. Get in touch with me and let me know what you all are thinking, are you still planning on the move?
If you move there you had better have money. It is very expensive to live there. Most expensive city in North Carolina to live. I don’t live there, but my family is from there. It is a beautiful area. Really sad about the flood.
Where was that lake you were walking around? I love your videos so I can see Asheville and all the familiar places after not being able to come in October. How I missed you Asheville.
Beaver Lake off Merrimon in North Asheville. 😊
@@livinginasheville thank you. Can’t believe we haven’t see that before.
Very well said. I feel bad for people who's homes were destroyed and they didn't have flood insurance. They're leaving
Can you tell me how much the Marion and Morganton areas were affected? I think we would like to retire in that area.
I loved this episode, Beth. It's a beautiful thing seeing what humanity is capable of when we're at our best. After this hurricane, you could see that spirit in spades. Oh, and I love that 1960 house - love the midcentury modern vibe.
Thank you so much! We sure do! And yes! That house!!💖
I can see people wanting to sell after what happened. I’d been looking for a house in Asheville for a while no so I kind of know the price range. Are prices coming down on the homes for sale?
They are not, they are staying steady but you do have a lot less competition right this minute .
Where there’s a will, there’s a way. So good to see the progress of recovery for Asheville
Thank you so much…
Thank you for the updates. We’re still thinking of everyone in that area. Glad to see that some places are getting back on their feet😊
Oh yes! They are. We are definitely resilient.
For the past few years we've been talking about moving to Asheville. I don't think it's possible anymore 😢
It is expensive. But you can look at surrounding areas. I bought a home in Old Fort this past March...it's only 30 minutes outside of Asheville next to Black Mountain. Tiny little town but I like it. It's peaceful at home and when I feel like i want to venture out, Asheville is only 30 minutes away. 😊
Old fort is so cute! We made a video there!
Why is that?
I'm sure the locals aren't upset
I wouldn’t wanna take away from any of the people that need help more than me just because I have money. Also- let them settle for at least a year I think until anyone should move there ! But it is your right to move to wherever you want I just don’t think it’s morally right at this time unless your coming to work and help !!! Just my opinion- no disrespect intended!!! God speed WNC !!!!!
We have lots of sellers right now and available housing. Lots of short term rentals are also converting back to long term rentals to help or selling as well. I appreciate your thoughtfulness in this.
Bringing money to the local economy IS "help" . When people buy homes they also buy furniture, appliances, home treatments, they rent moving vans , etc. I find your position rather bizarre to be honest. It's possible to bring back the area without locking down an important part of the economy. Then there's that entire "freedom of movement" and "right to conduct commerce" thingies guaranteed to us by Constitution. The faster Asheville gets back to all normal commerce the better. A ton of gig workers there just like in most tourist towns. Throttling anyone's economic life-line doesn't seem very moral to me . Just my opinion.
Thanks, Beth! Good update. If not in this video (I'm only 9 min in), I'd be very interested in how the Antique Tobacco Barn fared. It's one of my favorite places. Eat at Pack's!
Yay, she's backkkkkk. See ya get in the tub. Haha must be feeling better.
Hah! You crack me up! 😂
Omgoodness!!! I’m halfway through the video but had to pause and comment: Girl, thank you! Thank you for sharing the beautiful story of the FEMA workers saying Asheville coming together and helping each other is like nothing they’ve ever seen before!! So many people have said fema isn’t here and I’m so happy to hear that they are and they’re impressed with Ashvillians!! Yay!! And I loooove the man creating the Phoenix project with wood debris!! This is what Asheville is!!! I am so happy to see this!! Thank you so much for sharing!! And the Aztec chocolate ice cream sounds divine!! 🥰
Ha! You are so welcome!!! It really is what we are ALL about! Yep! FEMA will actually be on the next video! They are still here.
I would love if you had the time to search a few videos on TH-cam about FEMA or people claiming to be FEMA. And look into it maybe ask them what's going on and what's true or not true. I'm seeing some real shady stuff everywhere from different sources as well as things I've found on the news lately that's been pretty disturbing to learn about their agency. Would also like to know more about that!! Thanks
@@livinginasheville I look forward to seeing that!! Thanks!!
@@ShinningRock-i3xstop spreading misinformation troll
@imawitchwithab2395 I WISH IT WAS! I will continue to bring awareness to concerns and questions I have, I am pretty sure that is my God given right! Thanks for reading my comment and being made aware. Let me know if you see or hear anything that just doesn't make sense or doesn't sound right. NOTHING IS AS IT SHOULD BE!! There's something really wrong on so many different levels with all this, IF you would just take a step outside of the happy bubble to reality and LISTEN TO WITNESS STATEMENTS, LISTEN AND WATCH VIDEO FOOTAGE OF MEETINGS AND TOWN COUNCILS, AND LOOK AT ACTS AND BILLS RECENTLY PASSED. IF one would they too would be deeply concerned and seeking answers. As a federal agency we have the right to know what is going on. And where the $$ is going. If more people would stop calling us crazy or liars and trolls and start asking the same questions MAYBE WE WONT LOOSE OUR COUNTRY!!!!! Peace, but I'm serious. Please.
They should think about the TVA dam plan one more time. Why build back in a flood plain.
Thanks Beth for your updates on your area. I’ve seen that guy singing in 2 of your videos. He has a beautiful voice. Please tell him next time you see him.
He's a local treasure. I'll pass it along! 😊 He has commented on her as well. Sweetheart!
@@annaazzopardi4625 I agree😊
Yes please!! Raising the frequency!❤❤✨✨
Why the other “Living in Asheville” channel so petty
How is it Petty?
I don’t think they are-
Love the updates!
Thank you so much for watching!
How is Burnsville right now?
Remeber Biden and Kamala used FEMA to spend our tax dollars on illegals while your community as well as most of western NC didn’t get any money if any 300 to what would of been 700 and FEMA made sure to hide so people wouldn’t know where to get food and other resources.
FEMA is everywhere still.
Not doing a thing to help anyone Illegals got our Money the Swannanoa bridge next to the VA is still destroyed as well as the area near mission Hospital they aren't worried about your section
Why move to a area that was massively destroyed by the hurricane to now find that Trump won and all the liberals are gonna get chaotic towards trump supporters and the economy could possibly crash because Kamala didn’t win if you disagree or say I’m uneducated you really need to question your state of reality.
Whaaaaa? Just trying to follow…
Asheville citizens will be trashing your area because they are upset the election didn't go towards the first Female Candidate liberals do this in smart cities like yours but it already is a trash pile because the hurricane. They haven't cleaned or began to rebuild your city the depression will get to your area and people will lash out in anger
Good day, thanks for sharing this insightful information with us. Everything will get better from now on. And life will be normal as usual. Keep us posted
I am hoping that is true and I will continue to do so. 😊 There are still people that need help so There is work to do.
