      Thanks Steve! It's hard to quantify usefulness of this device - as you've seen from one of the comments, "most stupid things you can buy" and you should just use pen and paper 😂 For me, this has replaced all my notepads - so it's a 10 just as a tool for taking notes, annotations, scripts, mocking plans and risk assessments on site as I don't have to worry to much about dropping it as I would with an iPad Pro. I'd just fish for a used one to test the waters, this way you can sell it for the same price as you've got it if it doesn't suit your needs.

    Best review so far I have watched! I have been a fan of Shokz since the aeropex model when they were still known as aftershokz. I personally thought the openrun and openrun pro were a step back from the aeropex model, thus I will be curious how these will hold up to the aeropex. I did recently get the openfit and I absolutely hated them. The sound quality was the only thing I liked. The controls were awful and rarely ever worked so I was constantly using the device I had them paired with to control them. The bluetooth connection did not pair well and was inconsistent on how much distance I could get. They always felt like they were going to slip off of my ears when exercising. The worst part was that the direct pitch made me feel like I was wearing those inner headphones which I can't wear. I was developing ear issues and headaches that I get from inner ear headphones. In the end I sent them back, returned to wearing my refurbished aeropex, and will be getting a pair of the openrun pro 2 to see if they are worth the hype.

      Thanks! I'd sae the same as they compare to Shokz Openrun Pro or Openswim Pro - they are clearer and you're not getting the vibrations as much as you get on standard bone conducting headphones. On the other hand, Suunto Wing comes with it's own battery pack, LED's and they felt louder than Pro 2's.

      In terms of calls? They do a really good job when it's windy! When cycling I haven't had much issues with the previous editions to be fair. I swim on a masters team everyday. The open swim and previous name were flawless, until either the plastic charger tab would brake and the clam shell would not stay shut, or the actual earphone part separates from the headband, near the buttons, allowing water to get in and ruin them. That being said, I have had 3 pair and each lasted about 1 year, swimming around 3000 yards each day. Just bought the pro versiion, so we will see how long they last. The seam between the headphone and headband area, does appear to be different and more robust. SHOKZ WILL NOT stand behind the 2 year warranty when registered, so don't count on that. They really should be ashamed of that policy.

    • @JakeOski
      @JakeOski วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey dude, that sounds crap - what's the point in 2 year warranty if doesn't cover the seam which is pretty crucial? Sorry to hear that you've gotta replace them every year. So far mine have been stellar but I'm not anywhere near your usage load - 3k yds sounds insane!

    Tested this week, no vibration great, usb-c great, look great BUT I commute 8 hours a week and go through a fairly quite Oxford (at 07:00) and with light wind and buses I need to put it on about 75% volume unfortunately they lasted 4 1/2 hours, Now my beats flex last a whole week I used in left ear when on the road and put the right in once I hit cycle paths, they are clearer on 25% and the batter lasts all week the biggest bug for me is battery power I expect them to last al all day ride 6-8 hours at least but 4 1/2 - 5 hours is simply not good enough it means I would need to charge half way through a long ride day :/ I really wished the battery would better

    I picked up my openrun pro 2 a week ago. I currently have the aftershokz aeropex. The openrun pro2 have more bass, but I think I like the "in my head" sound when making calls on the original 2019 aeropex better. With loud ambient noise, I find it harder to hear with the new one. If I place my fingers in my ear canals or use foam ear plugs, the sound increases a lot on the aeropex. On the new model, the sound is reduced a lot. I believe the air speaker is is the problem. Maybe on the bone conduction driver 1 The placement of the new headset is not as close to your skin 2 It is smaller to make room for the other driver. 3 Or, it is not energized as much to increase the battery of all four drivers (it is my understanding there are 2 per side) I am obviously speculating. Other family members like the sound of the new ones better, but I am about to return the new one and try the open run pro. However, the new one is better to listen to music in a quieter ambient environment. Hopefully, this may be a software controlled remedy..ie reduce the volume of individual speakers. I know I receive comments like..these were design to hear your surroundings or buy an in ear set for loud noises. I have a previous bone conduction that works great in loud environment.

    Got them both and find the sound quality improvements substantial over the original Openrun Pro. I’m a sucker for sound quality and have some pretty expensive headphones and ciem’s. Even though the OR Pro2’s can’t compare to any of those in terms of sound quality I thoroughly enjoy using them. I love having my ear channel open and have acceptable sound quality. What I dislike most, surprisingly, over the old ones is the USB-C. The old magnetic connectors were much easier in use than the little rubber USB-C dustcap..to me at least

    Ive used Shokz products and also have these new set. For me it cuts all the advantages of bone conduction and replaces it with air drivers. Yes they sound better, but not as good as similar priced headphones so whats the point? Again your diminishing the bone conduction advantages to get better sound, but not as good of sound as you could with earbuds or over the ears.

    • @JakeOski
      @JakeOski 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      They still do a good job on the bone conduction side as pointed out by someone below with added air drivers. But I totally get your point too. One caveat with other type of headphones is that Shokz-like shape actually doesn't fall off my head when doing stuff. No buds I've ever had (and I went through plenty) actually ever stayed in my ears for any sensible length of time when working out and over-ear headphones make me sweat like a moose on gooseberries 😂

    • @kentsutton4973
      @kentsutton4973 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@JakeOski I agree that there is advantages to the design in terms of staying put and sweet. I disagree they do a good job at bone conduction. I have A/B tested with my older set and here is the thing. The air drivers add sound. I know that sounds normal, but what it does is raise the perceived sound level across the board. The new version at 20% volume sounds as loud to the listener as the old version at 50%. But at 20% volume there is almost no bone conduction. So turn it up to 50%. At that level the new version has good bone conduction but the air driver is now blasting. To the point 3rd parties can hear what I'm listening to. Literally can point out the song. They aren't balanced correctly.

    For now, it's always a tradeoff. Sound quality for awareness. The louder something is the less you can hear of something else. That is to say, there is no technology where we can have amazing awareness and great sound quality at the same time. These are for people that want to listen to some light background music while they are cycling or really needing to be fully aware of their surroundings.For instance, these are not needed for working out in a safe environment where there is very little chance of communication (others talking to you) and danger. You should review these based off their intent and not the unrealistic expectation that you want (an no technology has).

    In some ways they're different enough to the originals that calling them 2 is a bit false. The bone conduction element of them is far far less than the originals - but as you point out, that has some benefits - it's just that they no longer really seem like "bone conduction" headphones with how heavily they lean on traditional "air conduction" to get the sound in your ear.

    • @JakeOski
      @JakeOski 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's a tough one - air conduction definitely provides cleaner sound and with the shape being the same as all their Openrun Pro and other products I get why they wanted to keep the naming continuity.

    • @adam.gibson
      @adam.gibson 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The bone conduction part of it is still the biggest part of the sound so even though they are hybrid, I still see them as more bone conduction than air after using them for awhile. I close my ears and can still hear good music. The base is actually more balanced than before in that situation. If you plug your ears with the older bone conduction only models, The bass is WAY over saturated and affects the higher frequencies. I think the air conduction has really improved things a lot to help balance the base. With ears plugged, The sound dynamics in that situation sound very similar. Big difference between the older model. I am sure most people don't use them with earplugs in (I do when mowing my lawn), but I am only bringing this up to show that while the air part is used for bass in normal situations (ears not plugged), the majority of the sound is from the bone conduction. For those that do use ear plugs at times, The new model makes a huge difference. I haven't seen anyone mention that in reviews yet.

      @adam.gibson 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@JakeOski Yea. Most likely don't use earplugs for an IPS 55 sweatproof model. I myself find that earplugs are great for some situations where plugging your ears are relatively safe, external noises are very loud, and you normally wouldn't be able to use open ear headphones (heavy equipment, lawn mowers, wife (j/k of course), etc. I can get the best out of both worlds... open ear when needed and sound isolation with cheap earplugs (in safe situations of course).

    Does it connect to a Garmin watch whilst swimming? Or do I need to download music MP3 style to the shoks?

    • @JakeOski
      @JakeOski 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You can connect it to Garmin no probs but as soon as your hand goes under the water the connection will break - Bluetooth doesn't penetrate water too well. Hence the mp3 mode.

    I've been swimming laps with OpenSwim Pro and they're the best thing since sliced bread! Sounds great using MP3 function as well as Bluetooth. I also have Klipsch sport earbuds that sound fantastic, but I find that I usually just keep using the OpenSwim set for convenience. You forget they're on and I like not being cut off from the rest of the world as I go about my day after the swim. See a lot of griping about the special charging cord. I don't agree. It attaches itself when they're close enough, charges quickly. I store it and headset in the nice zippered pouch that comes with it. I've had them for 3 mos now and can't think of one thing to complain about. If you swim regularly, get them.

      @stove2636 Bluetooth does not work underwater. I don't know about 'hours' but I swim laps for an hour, 5x /week with no issues. If you're talking swimming laps, yes, you could do it for hours. If you're talking diving with them????? I'd check their website for any parameters, but I can't imagine a better headset.
