  • Suunto Race is currently the most reasonable priced sports running watch that punches way above its pricing category. Stunning AMOLED display, great battery life and fluid interface. There are a couple of let-downs but overall, I'm mighty impressed!

    Been using my Suunto race everyday for the past year, the race is an absolute unit and has been rock solid for me.

      It’s definitely one of the most under appreciated watches of this year

      @ absolutely, the quality of the build for the price is what ultimately sold me on it, as a mountain biker the sapphire glass has been awesome and the GPS has ran flawless.

    I’ve got both the race and the Vertical. Both are great trackers but make no mistake,they are exactly that. Neither one is. A smart watch and if your coming from various Android watches Apple Watch, you need to keep your expectations in check. I hear time and time and again about Suunto vs smart watches. Granted Garmin is an exception as they do indeed have many more smart watch features. Suunto is focused on the great outdoors and isn’t about having you connected in a social way. It’s more about having a training and Navigation companion. You would buy a Suunto because certain things are important to you sport wise. Things like Apple Watch and pixel are for lifestyle really. Garmin is more about training while giving you smart features, and trackers like Suunto,Polar, Coros are about Sport and health data for detailed recovery and progress analysis. The Suunto race is a fantastic watch if your into sports and the great outdoors. But if your only into general fitness like the gym, walking and basic runs, but need more features like payments, social notifications, then a smart watch is going to be a far better option.

      I totally agree on all statements here. Garmin is way too expensive. If I want battery life and accuracy: Suunto. If I want health functions: Apple Watch. If you need a smart watch: Apple Watch. If you want to go out without the smartphone and be reachable: Apple Watch. What is the garmin for? I don’t know. Seriously

    Excellent video, at first was surprised by the duotone tshirt and mystic bottle, damn uncommon in the trail/run/bike watch reviewer on youtube 😅👌
    Nice to have a water man opinion, being ultra trailer but also windfoiler and wingfoiler.. 🙏 thank you 🤙

      You're very welcome dude! Wind foiling is mad, respect! I used to compete in WS slalom when I was much younger but the evolution into foiling is insane! I remember wipeouts in 35kt at full blast, can't even imagine coming off a foil still being hooked in! Wing and Kite foiling seems like a walk in the park by comparison :)

    Suunto Traverse Alpha Stealth was my first smartwatch and I still have it. I’m in industrial engineering and I wore the Suunto everyday for years and beat the hell out of it. I still have it and it works fine. Since then I’ve purchased several Apple Watches, currently have the Ultra 2, and a Garmin Fenix 6X Saphire. For hiking and navigation the Garmin is my go to watch and I wear the Ultra 2 for communications and don’t take my phone. For everyday use I swap between the two but the Garmin is definitely the best sports watch. That being said, the Ultra is close and the better smartwatch. I believe the Suunto Vertical would have been a better comparison.

    • @JakeOski
      @JakeOski  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh for sure, I just don’t really have a use for Vertical… even Fenix 6 and 7 were an overkill for my needs most of the time. Ultra 2 survived an 8h off piste MTB session just fine and Suunto Race does a great job at this as well.
      We’re all pretty spoilt for choice, which is awesome. There’s a lot of folk out there who are overspending on the kit they don’t really need - thinking of troopers wearing full alpine kit for a walk my daughter just did wearing 2 mismatching shoes holding a half naked Barbie ;)

    Actually the watch itself downloads the maps via WIFI while on the charger, not the phone... It's painfully slow, but the maps are nice and the watch is way quicker with them than Garmin is...

    Saying is this watch is better than the Fenix 8 is like saying canned food tastes better than michellin star dishes. It lacks key health/running/hiking/cycling features compared to the Fenix 7 pro/Fenix 8. Even the navigation isnt as smooth and detailed - It has the basic navigation features which is fine for most but it dosent come close to Garmin.
    The heart rate sensor is even less accurate compared to a chest strap.
    Its not a bad sportwatch overall compared to Apple or Coros - But if you think this watch is better than the fenix 8 you really havent had both.

    • @JakeOski
      @JakeOski  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yup, I maybe should've clarified - for an everyday runner and your average hiker, biker, swimmer - Suunto is a more sensible choice at this price point. I've had Garmin watches for the past decade bar the Fenix 8 as I refuse to drop that amount of money for one.
      Fenix 6 and 7 were my daily drivers and then I've moved onto Ultra 2 as I've noticed I'm not using most of the Garmin's functions. Also, both suffered with the same issues vs salty water - both of which got replaced by Garmin with no fuss. Never had that problem with Apple. So far at least.
      "The heart rate sensor is even less accurate compared to a chest strap" - yeah, chest strap is more accurate than Garmin/Apple/Coros/and others. Same with running training - on shoe running sensors like RunScribe gives you way more data than a watch.
      So if you want to really detailed data that helps with your training, a watch won't cut it.

      The Navigation is way more smooth on the Suunto. The garmin is so slow with navigation when running to the wood. It’s a shame

    Hi, no those issues are not just pertaining to you. Not being able to put music on and just head out without my phone or wallet are deal breakers for me.

    • @JakeOski
      @JakeOski  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Totally. Thankfully, in my case, it only applies to running in my case, when doing anything else (well, apart from water stuff but I've got Shokz Openswim Pro's for that anyway) I always have my phone with me (making calls when you wipe out on a bike through Apple Watch is useless). Fingers crossed they'll add that in the v2!

    google/apple pay and music from spotify that can be uploaded is the only thing holding me off from buying this watch. Sold my peak9 pro titan just because most garmin users already had this//

    I had it just under a year, and it tried to do an update and spazzed out. I had to send it back to Suunto for replacement...loved it otherwise

    • @JakeOski
      @JakeOski  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Had a similar issue with my Garmin Fenix 6, they’ve sent me the 7x as a replacement. That then died due to salty water messing with the side buttons :( Sadly, a known issue. Have they replaced it ok? Just wondering about the after service.

      @@JakeOski I mean Suunto's Customer Service Chat option is kind of clunky...but I got it sent out for warranty, maybe like 2 weeks ago. And they are now sending me back a brand new one, should be here next week. I like the brand, because they make good compasses, and I had the Fitness 3.

      T-Rex has a clumsy map implementation. You can only download a certain city area - that takes at least 5 min. Secondly the download must be unzipped... takes another 5 min. No fun at all.
