TH-cam compression makes it hard to tell if there is an increase in quality.

That's pretty much it, as soon as you upload it to TH-cam or any social media it makes little difference in decent light conditions. It kinda makes more sense in darker scenes where you can see footage falling apart with stabilisation on.
