[DIY] EASIEST WAY To Install Steel Braided Brake Hoses on a BMW 3 Series [E90, E91, E92]
The intermediate rear brake lines are almost impossible to get off without removing the subframe. I show in this video one method of replacing them BUT [DISCLAIMER] you must be EXTREMELY CAREFUL to not damage the nut fittings otherwise you will be replacing the whole brake line. You do not want to weaken the brake line itself because the enamel coating rusts to the fitting and its nearly impossible to remove without damaging the brake line.

Any advice on how to prevent the potential timing chain failures on the BMW E90 models?
Make sure you change your oil. Once the engine is sludged you'll loose oil pressure to your timing chain tensioner and if that gets clogged your chain will get loose, the guides will wear down and maybe skip a tooth /smash a valve
@@buildanddrive Thanks so change oil and fiilter with high quality oil every 5000 km?
Next Video Here: Installing Steel Braided Brake Lines: th-cam.com/video/3c39LA9y1WA/w-d-xo.html
why didn't the red line mtf work properly? I've seen a lot of people recommending it for BMWs manuals, along with the RP Synchromax.
Wasn't thick enough when cold. Broke a few of my syncros. As it warmed up, it was fine.
Once you have wear, especially from the side of the piston hitting cylinder wall. None of this is going to work. Maybe they did losen the piston rings, but remember the wall has wear and its not going to seal. My question is, whats the best thing for prevention. Just frequent oil changes or every 10k soak your rings or do a flush?
Yes, your cylinder walls will have some wear and nothing is going to work to fix that. But the rings will have even more wear out of spec. I measured this in a few of my rebuild videos. I would change your oil every 8k to 10k kilometers. Don't put any of this snake oil on your engine.
First😊 Just did this a few days ago. Still have the mid ones to go as I’m waiting for some crowfoot bits to arrive from amazon. As I was replacing pads and discs the callipers came off. First I disconnected the brake hose from the copper lines first and removed the calipers with the original line attached. Easy to remove from the calipers ones off the car and the easy to install the Goodridge braided line.
Great! It's a terrible job to do with the subframe in the car.... Maybe I should have lowered the subframe even 1 inch I would help ALOT
Just out of curiosity, would you know what the rear top thread diameter is on the bushes? I have bought new rear shock absorbers, however when looking online it appears to have contradictory diameter thread sizes, one being 10mm and the other 12mm according to powerflex. Hope that makes sense. According to the powerflex website: For standard shock absorbers and performance shock absorber with a 10mm thread use PFR5-416. PFR5-416-12 fits performance shock absorber which has 12mm thread. Bush Size: 10mm
I think the issue with this engine , as i saw one guy recently speaking about..are the piston oil rings. There are 2 models, one bad ,one good.
Can you find the video again? The m54 engine had the "tu" version which had a different style of piston oil ring that didn't burn oil
I have 2005 BMW 325 with N52B25, it has oil consumption 1l/100km (260000km in a meter), so I made complete engine overhaul, what I found was minor oil leaks and piston rings was clearly worn out of specs (and pistons was old desing). I insert new desing pistons with new rings (standard size, no honing to good cylinders), new bearings, seals etc. After overhaul oil consumption now is 1l/2300km (no leaks). That's still not so good but I can live with it, BMW spec to oil consumption to this engine is 0,7l/1000km. I use 5W40 oil
Thanks for sharing. I also rebuilt my engine but used old piston design but new rings and seals etc. my consumption was at best 1L/1500km with 5w40. These engines just have a poor design.
Great vid!
Thanks dude! 🙏🏽

I wonder where brake fluid reservoir
For which car do you have? It's underneath the right side plastic cover under the engine bay next to the cowl.
Dude that pickup truck is as disgusting as the country it came from. But did you really find American redneck freak barbecue in GERMANY?!
Oh my GOTT! My dream E90 N52 is also consuming oil : ) Like a bloody Audi....
Yes, my n52 chugs oil like a German drinks beer 🍺
Anybody tried deleting the pcv valve and replace it with oil catch can? That’s what I did with my m54 and it runs better.
I started designing something that would screw into the oil drain of the oil pan, but there are so many hoses and pipes to sort out and there's no room in the engine bay for the catch can. It requires further modification to move the power steering reservoir and create a mount. I just don't have the time.
The heater ccv heater valve melted. that was my problem on my x3 😂😂🎉❤🎉
😂😂😂🫠
Very useful info. You are knowledgeable
Thanks very much.
@buildanddrive do you usually use liqui moly or other brand do you recommend?
Can l fit a bmw M54 engine and replace the N42 engine ,
In which car?
i appreciate you
Thanks. Are you removing your engine?
I am debating on doing so. My belt broke and i assume pieces of it snuck into the motor and now it wont turn over. i placed the new belt on properly and still nothing.
I had the same experience with the Liquid Moly Engine Flush over a year ago and my Camry still burns oil. Now, going to try Amsoil Engine Flush and their OE Full Synthetic before I give up. No leaks or smoking, just have to topoff. It does run smooth I might add. PCV was changed, so I did eliminate a few culprits.
Google Camry engine consumption... There was one engine, don't remember which one, that had this same problem.
Hey. I've got a M54B25 engine, and use 5w40 ravenol and am burning 800-1200ML to 1000km. The car smokes a lot when hot (valve seals and piston rings no doubt) Im thinking about Castrol 5w50, what do you think? During summer, i get 34+ temperatures and in the winter, it goes like -3 most of the time at maximum, othervise little above 0 (all temps in celsius) Do you think the 5w50 is a good idea? I run the car quite passionately, so it burrnssss
Winter run a 5w30 and summer run a 5w40. You mind as well try and protect the engine rather than choking it with a thicker oil... I didn't see much improvement on my oil consumption. The thicker oil actually reduced it a bit but not enough to warrant using it all the time.
How do you rest the oil levels without I drive of it does work on a 5series N52
You have to warm up the car and use the button on the left turn signal to toggle the oil level
My e90 has an intercooler, so there is no drain plug!!! I wanna cry. do I have to unplug the lower hoses? I can't believe it's that complicated!!!
Is yours a 335i?

Hey your videos are A1!!! I have a question... I have a 2011 328i xdrive 6spd manual 146,787 miles. It has all factory parts. I'm slowly building it back up and I seem to be having a hard time finding the oem parts for the ccv and hoses. I want to put my new oem valve cover on but I may break the ccv to head hose. Where can I find the parts?
Where do you live? Fcpeuro has OEM parts
@@buildanddrivein texas. I order from fcp all the time. Someone on TH-cam said i might have the 3 waysteering. I have a new issue now. My steering turns more then 360° to turn left or right. Had control arms and thrust arms and passanger cv axle done. Car was tigh for a little bit. Then it went away. I'll worry about the ccv later 😅 I need to be able to steer.
I meant three way hose btw lol. But the ccv is the least of my worries. My steering rack is loose. I'm loosing no power steering fluid. New tie rods inner and outter, passanger cv axle, control arms and thrust arms. Car feels like it's not connected to the road at all. It dosen't have servo or electronic power steering. I thought if the power steering was broken then it would be hard to turn. It's either the rack or the steering shaft. When I turn the steering wheel the wheels turn with the steering wheel but I have to put more input into the steering wheel to make the turn. Left or right turns my steering wheel damn near goes to full lock.
While draining the coolant can I pour water in the expansion tank for a better flush
Yes

Are you American? Your accent sounds American. I was wonder if you moved to the Fatherland because you are a true BMW aficionado and wanted to drive your E90 N52 on the autobahn.
I'm from 🇨🇦. And it was just the car I ended up buying while living here in Germany. I then had to become a BMW aficionado because this car has a new problem literally every other weekend 🤦🏽. But I do get to drive it how it's supposed to be driven on the Autobahn, and it's awesome 😎
@buildanddrive Ahh that makes sense 😀. Thanks so much the educational videos. I have a 2011 328i xDrive Sedan. E90 LCI N52...looking to finally take care of it myself.
I have low compression on n52b25, aprox 85 psi on each cyllinder, it consume 1l/1500 km. How could it even running and how long it will last my engine ?
That doesn't sound right. Are you sure you compression tested the engine correctly? Does the car have trouble starting when cold? Follow these instructions, make sure ALL spark plugs are removed when cranking. Test it without and then add a little bit of oil to the cylinders and compare the values. If the same... Do a leak down test to check. th-cam.com/video/v0gH8dFyWH8/w-d-xo.html
@@buildanddrive I followed your steps from the beginning, I removed all spark plugs, I set the valvetronic to 176 degrees, I did an wet test and the results are a little bit higher, around 105 psi except cyllinder 3 which was still on 80 psi... My car is starting without struggling, only problem is that I have rough idle few seconds, after I cleaned spark plugs, that tough idle disappeared, another thing is that I have cats error on almost every time , is during a little bit after I clean error code to reappear again. Is strange even for me , because I can run pretty fast, the engine revs at the max RPM without struggling, I go even with 200 km/h on highway. Could be possible to be a timing chain problem, valvetronic or a headgasket?I really don't understand, for this compression my car should smoke oil on exhaust like a diesel but mine doesnt smoke ... P.S. I used exact the same Compression tester like yours.
@@buildanddrive Today I changed the oil with Valvoline Maxlife 5w30 and I used some flush from Liqui Moly to clean the engine maybe piston rings were stuck with carbon , but nothing has changed, the compression is the same like yesterday.
Can i just refill the coolant without having to go all down that process?
You can try. It will cause a lot of air pockets though.
In the handbook of my car, it says to use a 5W-40 Oil ONLY... My 1998 Toyota Celica has covered 236,000 Miles and is fitted with a 1.8 Litre 7A-FE 4 Cylinder DOHC engine ..OK it only produces a paltry 113 BHP ..However, the speed limit on our Motorways here in the UK (Freeways for American viewers) is 112 KM/H ( 70 MPH) and my car does this with comparable ease. My car is burning a litre of oil every 1,000 Kilometers.. Here in the UK a litre of oil costs around £5.60 GBP (5 Litres cost me £28) I drive around 1500 KM a Month ..So let's look at the cost for me. Option one ..... Top up the oil using 5W-40 as and when required 1.5 Litres per month...Total cost £5.60 x 1.5 = £8.40 GBP of oil a month Option two..... Swop the oil and use a 5W-50 oil and RISK the engine blowing up..... Total cost Around £3,000 GBP for an engine rebuild. I WILL SELECT OPTION ONE..... It is a "No brainer" 😁 But thank you for this video anyway.
Yes, option 4. Buy an electric car 🚗😂
Great video 🫡 i own a bmw 325i sport 2006 perfect 👌
Good luck. It's gonna be a wild ride 😅

The M47 engine from year 2000 era was best and simplest lump BMW ever produced in terms of longevity and reliability. Also used in Rover 75 and Land Rover Freelander. These engines easily achieved 500k miles on original chain and still didn't use a SINGLE DROP of oil. I still run one today on 210k miles still going strong and 50mpg ⚠️
Dang it. Gotta find one of those!!! Didn't k ow about the land Rover using a BMW motor. Was it tuned for torque?
@@buildanddriveyes it was detuned by BMW to 115bhp so it didn't outshine their 3 Series. Disgraceful really, then in 2003 Rover mapped it to a more respectable 131bhp. Independent mappers took it to 155 bhp. BMW had their M47's put out 150 from day 1 using variable vane intake but it backfired on them as broken vanes got injested into many engines. Happy days for Rover 😅
I absolutely hate those cutter knives.
