Hand-Manipulated Lace | because every tapestry needs some texture
This video is less tutorial and more visually watching me explore the old techniques. If you're interested, I'm doing Leno lace, warp wrapping, brook's bouquet, and a medallion style I don't know the name of. I hope this video inspires you to try some new techniques or fuels a project idea!

    I finally got the warp wrapping, it´s five strands every time and you change the position of the one in the middle.. so simple once I got my mind to scoot over and give uneven numbers some space.. Learning is so much fun! And you are a gem. Wishing you all the best for the move, it´s never easy and I admire you so, finding time for filming and editing while taking care of your family and moving. Chapeau!

      I'm so glad you got it! I find it's easiest with the uneven numbers, but really you can use as many or as few warp threads as you want. I just love how it looks like a little mini braid

    I came back to watch this again, the painted warp looks so lovely. when i am done with the diamonds, i will try my luck with a cornish coast colours inspired painted warp. so there will be all kinds of blue for sky and sea and some really bright yellow for lichen and greens and some dark grey for the grass and the rocks. In my head it looks good.

    • @marykatealsvig
      @marykatealsvig 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hahaha yeah, I'm pretty sure it is backwards. I put it on front-facing and it made this obnoxious thumping noise every time I moved it, so i just switched it around. I'm going to take some time to figure out what's going on with that as well as the sticking shafts before I start my next warp. But honestly it works just as well backwards, so I'm not going to stress it.

    Hello MaryKate, it is 8 am on Saturday as I am watching this (after a very short night) and this time the weaving process appears to be physically demanding, as well as mentally. At least for my brain after not sleeping enough. :) The cloth looks very interesting and pretty! Anything double-sided is cool, you flip it over andf it´s a different piece. I espevially like the pillow-idea. So clever! I am trying diamond twill on my rigid heddle loom and i think i used the wrong yarn for my warp, it gets stuck on itself in the slots so now i have to work with one permanent pickup stick (on 3, to get the slot threads up) and one that i insert every so often (on 2, to keep the slot theads down). But I like the pattern and weaving is not supposed to be a speed race. Well, not for me, anyhow. If I have a nice length for a table runner by the end of August, it´s fine. I am sorry to see that your loom still gets stuck. That is such a bother. Be happy, be safe, I will be watching this again now, Until next time, Su / Pinguinpullover P.S. Best wishes for the move, may it go smoothly!

    • @marykatealsvig
      @marykatealsvig 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I've definitely had yarn stick like that before! I find it's really common with wool, just because it's so naturally grippy. It's good that you don't mind being patient with the process, that's half of weaving for me. I'm sorry you had such a short night! Everything is always a little harder (and the brain seems to think a bit slower) when I'm sleep deprived. I hope you are able to find time for a nap or some extra rest.

    Me again sorry.. may I ask, what do you do with the cloth once it´s done? To me, this looks like perfect project bags for any knitting or crochet project ;) Also, did you solve the sticky frames problem? • @marykatealsvig
      @marykatealsvig 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That would put a gap in my pattern, because I have it threaded through the heddles first in a 1234 pattern, so if I cut out 34 the pattern would look like 121234. Which would fix the reed but create an even bigger problem. I could take out a whole block of the heddles but then I would have a gap in the reed. It's the unwinable conundrum.

    Ok, I hope what you learn the most as a new mom😊, weaving is your wonderful gift to yourself and your family! Nurturing yourself and then you are able to nurture those around you! Don’t set timer on you or your projects 😢. You absolutely deserve this opportunity to grow and thrive and everyone can enjoy this wonderful journey together. Trust me we all will enjoy the journey together with you❤
