10 Rare Metro Train Movements During 2023
I’m just always super impressed with the cleanliness inside and outside of our trains these days
The train overrun or underrun
The display showing the full train line, final destination, and upcoming stations between stops is incredibly inratable, especially during rush hour. Imagine being on a packed train, squeezed in the middle of the carriage, trying to read this information. It's practically impossible. It becomes difficult even for people with good vision , let alone those with low vision or visual impairments. For passengers to navigate their journey smoothly and safely, particularly during busy transit times. Improving the readability of these displays would greatly enhance the overall commuting experience, ensuring that everyone can travel with confidence and ease.
9:31 READ THE HTML, and if you can't, TOO BAD!!!!!!!!!!!
I can confirm that they are now running 3-car X'trapolis trains on the Williamstown shuttles; I've seen it two days in a row.
Even if the upgrade is better. It is so annoying that now the service is announced every single time after the train departs a station.
I like the random Sydney Trains chime on the announcements lolol
The new desto's are horrible in the day. Literally not fit for purpose. I dont know how that display got approved. The ramp buttons, weren't they always there? But thanks for the video. I dont get the Siemens much so I'd actually missed some of the changes, but my interest is definitely geared towards the PID/desto/tech side.
The rectangles underneath the main body are Reflector Panels, which are for reflecting Car Headlights at night. They're a safety feature.
got to keep them looking fresh i guess.
The upgrades are making the Siemens fleet looking much better, especially the PIDs!
Hate those trains.
Was waiting for this video, I rode one of the siemens trains with those new fancy PIDs the other week. It always bugged me that they were just using the high-res colour LCDs for monochrome text, so the detailed route map was a welcome change. Definitely makes them feel modern inside even though they're 20 years old now. Looking forward to what they do with the x'traps next, especially since they have those external displays on the side like the HCMTs do, although they're already nice and bright unlike the old siemens flip displays were so are in less need of an upgrade.
The new internal and external displays are a welcome change. My assumption is that they were rolled out with "interim" display designs and then updated based on feedback or once the designs were finalised. I think the initial PID design, while having great visibility, was pretty grating with poor punctuation and grammar (title case - yuck). The sketchy reliability is very interesting to observe as LCD displays are so reliable and common.
Another thought - I think these are being gradually upgraded with LED headlights, too?
Naturally i had to watch this while on a seimans train. Still has stations on the seats.
The funny thing about this is that I saw a refurbished Siemens train two hours after arriving in Melbourne from Sydney. It happened while I was waiting in Spotswood (Werribee and Williamstown lines). That's crazy. 😮
I saw one of the siemens with no metro signs and it was a williamstown or a werribee
I’ve always thought Siemens trains were underrated, by far my favourite in Melbourne
i saw lots of these btw when will comeng stop going on sandringham line or cross city group
Comeng sets are now no longer scheduled to operate on the Sandringham Line
I hope these trains never go
I liked the old seats 😢
I thought Siemens were gone on the craigieburn line but I caught one on the 24th June from Pascoe Vale to moonee ponds and it had all the new features
What! they come so often
I’d better go see the station name seats one last time then! Great video mate.
The Siemens trains are very quiet and smooth and very pleasant to travel in. The huge problem with them is the hard seats. After about 20 mins of travel I find them almost unbearable. As mind blowing as a 3 carriage train is, the passenger seating comfort outweighs it I think. I hope the improvements include some more padding. Interesting video. 😊
I hate the ew livery, I like the old X'trap and Siemens livery with the Metro branding at the front and rear of each 3 car set, it looks much better in the old livery.
Why would they remove the metro from the livery?
I think it is so if PTV want to change the operator quickly they don’t have to do a full on livery change - they just cover up the “operated by metro” signs.
Had to laugh at the display showing the JSON instead of the plain text. Your think they’d have used a different variable or something to make it backward compatible
The Siemens is the best out of all the trains in Melbourne. The seating provides HEAPS of shoulder and leg room. It's as though they were designed for Australian passengers and not small people with a 35cm shoulder width. The straight vertical 90 degree wall makes leaning against the window comfortable unlike the other trains in the network where the walls are angled inwards.
They are the best trains to ride on, smooth ride and big seats big +
Seat padding is very thin though
Unless you're in a wheelchair and then have a train that's above the platform even when there's a raised platform ledge.
I just wish they had six doors per carriage like every other train on the network instead of four.
I thought we were all Australian people. I had no idea that you had to be a certain size to qualify
I still prefer the older announcements and dings.
The rectangles on the lower edge of the cars is a refelctive tape so the sides are light up by car headlights when crossings
Thanks for explaining!
What would be the point? If you're driving a car and see a train with big carriages, interior lighting and loud clackety noises passing in front of you, surely the last thing you'd notice would be little reflective rectangles.
The PID design still being underwhelming and inconsistent, and the seat design do age like milk, changing cushion doesn't help at all, not a big fan of these changes
Never rode a N Set club
The older technology of the pids was perfectly fine all they needed to do is write a few more lines of text for each line and it would've been equally as good and far cheaper
They had issues, and likely life expired. Parts availability and support likely was a factor as well.
Hot video so far!😁
The tait sets are the greatest ever made. They were on the tracks for more than 60 years. Craftsmanship, beautifully made wood work. They were Edwardian beauties.
12:08 Reflective strips www.aph.gov.au/parliamentary_business/committees/house_of_representatives_committees?url=trs/trains/report/report.pdf “2.13 - The Committee recommends that the Australian Government take steps, through the Transport Ministers Council, to require that all locomotives and rolling stock in the Australian rail industry are fitted with standard reflective strips or reflective paint” “2.9 - Reflective strips could be yellow, red or white with contrasting bright dots to show that the rolling stock is in motion. They should be set at head-light height and must be subject to regular testing and cleaning.” So from what I could gather from this, they’re there for safety and extra visibility of the train under low light or at night especially when the train’s on an empty run, and especially at level crossings, given how with a network like ours there’s quite a lot of them. In a way, similar to the yellow stripe on the bottom sides of the VLos.
Replace the Siemens with the Tait Trains lol.
I was told months ago apparently Comengs more specifically Alstoms comengs are receiving a new livery as well once the Siemens are done
Metro should be giving x'trapolis trains the blue ptv rectangles seating pattern and new stickerss and upgraded passenger information displays like that the Siemens are getting but no still 20 year old connex patterns
Ik why haven’t they done that to at least a few sets?
They'll get done after the siemens fleet, it isn't like they can just do all of the trains at once. The x'trap fleet is generally newer anyway, so it makes sense to do it in that order no?
We need an xtrap upgrade!
replace their suspension
I always enjoy riding on the Siemens, so smooth and quiet. Probably an ideal version for them in my opinion would be the current PID and seating upgrades but revert the announcement back to the original and more natural tones. I find them more appealing instead of the current computer like announcement. And for pete sake please add and in the change here announcement.
I quite like the Siemens they quieter then the Xtraps and Comengs, But I don't travel on them often :(
I saw a PID saying “Aircraft” even though trains don’t terminate there. They actually terminate at Werribee!
Nice find
@@StrayaTrains Thanks!
FIRST COMMENT! YAY!
:)
Hi
Hello
Honestly the new Keon Park station looks a little bland from the platforms since it’s just white, grey and black, but the design looks pretty cool! Anyways can you look on my latest post and explain how I caught one just this month
I always took the train to any AFL Game that has Essendon playing
I saw a Comeng on the Sandrigham Line today. Unfortunately I forgot to film it cause it was too crowded with people as it was during the peak hour
Nice find
@@StrayaTrains It was too crowded to see and film but the set was 680M-1190T-679M-673M-1171T-642M. As it is still happening now, there will be a 3 car Comeng 355M-1028T-356M running there according to metro tracker
i saw coming running on the Sandringham line service on my way into the city today and then a siemens running an upfield service on my way out today. Wonder why that happened.
probs its the peak hour
Great filming man :)
Cheers!
Good video :)
