- Hello and welcome to my channel. I am a train enthusiast located in Victoria, Australia and just want to share some of my journeys with TH-cam. Please feel free to Comment your opinions and Subscribe to my channel :)
In this video, we take a look at Melbourne's two newest stations, celebrating 80 level crossings removed under the LXRP. Filmed on opening day which was June 3rd 2024, we start at East Pakenham Station. Then we head to the new Skyrail Pakenham Stations which includes a throwback to the old at grade station. This video has a tour of each new station. Hope you enjoy the video!
East Pakenham was built primarily to serve future development, hence why there’s not much going on around there right now. Over the coming years there’ll be a lot of houses going up just like there has been in Pakenham itself. Pakenham as a suburb looks totally different than it did from what I remember 10 years ago.
Is this the first time a station has been built before the housing developments? 😂
@@HardstylePete Officer was as well surprisingly. Probably still has a lot of spare land around it.
@@Birdman_18 Officer is still in the middle of buttfuck nowhere 143 years later
wrong. east pakenham was literally only built because they couldn't put crossovers on the skyrail at pakenham. if they did they would have to shut the whole line down to do maintenance on them, so they built a ground level station further on to terminate trains there. they may advertise it as a station for new development, but thats only a coincidence.

Looking forward to seeing V/Line back on the Gippy line. Thanks for the video.👍
Earlier I was at Clayton and saw the display boards saying East Pakenham, took me by surprise and I was confused, now after seeing this video I've realised it's open!
Great little hornshow and a wave from the driver at 9:47 !
Indeed!
I remember when reservoir first opened it also had those dodgy stairs, aswell as when Aircraft was getting it’s new underpass.
Great video explaining everything related to this awesome opening of 2 new stations!
Thanks!
I reckon if I was in a wheelchair I'd continue on the train to East Pakenham and roll across the platform to take the train back the other way. I'll bet it would be quicker than waiting for a taxi at Cardinia Road.
Also no need to worry about the temporary stairs, those are pretty standard on building sites and safe as houses.
Yes if you were a wheelchair user that is a much more common sense solution especially given the time it would take to get out of your chair fold the chair up put it in a taxi etc. Etc. I also have a concern about the width of the platform at East Pakenham, in terms of someone who had a guide dog next to them. But anyway, keen to get down there and have a look.
Good idea. Prob is easier and quicker
I saw two people do exactly that this morning at East Pakenham. Ironically, the train they were on was going to leave 5 minutes after it arrived so they got back on the same train.
Yea an Pakenham is the interchange for vline so how a person in a wheelchair go to moe from Cardinia road without missing its train
It is actually pretty simple when you think about it properly. All trains away from the city will be on Platform 2 at Pakenham so you would get on the metro service at Cardinia Road, get off at Pakenham on Platform 2, wait on Platform 2 for the next Vline towards Traralgon and then get on it to Moe. The issue will be for people wanting to get on at Pakenham as there is no way to get onto Platform 2 other than my previously mentioned way from Cardinia Road or any other station before it.
So cool, I’ll see this soon
Great to see more innovation in Melbourne's East!
It’s so surreal not seeing the old station, I remember when I was younger and went there all the time with my parents, and waiting trains at the rail crossing
:(
Thanks for the tour. Always nice to see shiny new things, even if it's still vanilla flavour! 🤭
I'll try and go this Friday when I'm out and about on the trains. Great video as always.
Cool that you got the test train, I had just left East Pakenham on the train before, so I got to see it go by Officer
I can't wait to visit soon!
Stoked to see a new station. I’m east of Pakky, and looking forward to heading down there for a day riding the rails. New sub, cool channel
Thanks!!
This video is the best!
these stations look CRAZY!
nice vid straya trains!!! so detailed
It looks great!
Very nice video!😀😁
cool video, thank you
Glad to see they are still installing public phones!
Otherwise for opening day I would have thought there would have been a string cutting ceremony... How sad!
Agreed. I was surprised to see it there. And yea, they did some media stunt a bit earlier in the day it seemed
Terrific! 👍🏻
There is still work to be done around on Car Parking and landscaping around the new Pakenham Station until later on in the year and then there will be lots of walking and cycling paths, playgrounds, basketball courts and shrubs and grasses planted.
i saw a display at caulfield saying east pakenham. hope someday a comeng will run to this station
Nice
Nice, very cool.
I was there too!
Nice🎉🎉🎉
I just got home after seeing east pakehnam station with my friends, we werent there long we just wanted to have a look
Nice
Maybe a little sad to see my old depot erased from the map, but this is definitely a big improvement. Also, it’s good to see this historical view of the new stations in this condition prior to them being covered in graffiti in a week or so from now.
It’s so sad. If only people had respect and things could stay looking nice.
Great video mate!!
Thanks!!
Incredibly interesting that all public information has said the line name will not change from the "Pakenham Line" but the replacement bus signage says "East Pakenham line" at 4:19
Straya Trains open day
3 Jun 2024 great video well done keep up the good work
On my Channel, I heard an East Pakenham announcement on a Siemens train arriving at South Yarra
Cool
gonna go weekend
same
I assume the hardly finished and glitchy opening is down to the key target being removing the level crossing rather than the station improvements.
Surprised though to see the long ramp at EP and no lift. This would be incomprehensible for a new station in Sydney.
In the late ‘70s the VR ceased to run Taits to Pakenham because of fears the express running will catch fire. Years later a Tait special ran to Traralgon.
Pakenham still gets Vline trains when services resume in a couple of weeks.
Great video but on a semi-unrelated topic, why can't we have a card or chip system fob that activates when you walk through an entry zone and it acts as a "touch on", then taking out the amount from your balance when you get off, similar to a toll? I feel like that would be way more convenient and reduce congestion on entry/exit areas of busy stations, but also provide safety for vulnerable people in that it won't cause them to be preoccupied/take their eyes off their surroundings when reaching for a card and touching on/off. I get that it would probably be hard to enforce when you're an inspector asking for someone to "show" you your card, but surely there could be a notification that can be sent out to them if a person walks through an exit gate which doesn't set off a signal.
Great idea! I am not sure why not. You should suggest that to PTV
E Pakenham is expected to stay as the destination on the front of trains, as East Pakenham won't fit.
Platform 2 at Pakenham isn't finished because it couldn't be while the old (ground-level) station was still there. Platform 2 will "be opening soon" in "spring", according to signs. The original plan was to open the station with only platform 1, but the compromise was to open it now without the lifts and full facilities.
Thanks for the info! Makes sense in regards to the progress of P2 with the limited time old Pakky has been demolished
When I was going home return to Pakenham east and I saw xtrapolis Alstom train at east pakenham station overhead testing signal
Nice catch
Dang it now I haven’t been to every station on the suburban network, it’s going to be a long ride.
I like this channel
Thanks!
@@StrayaTrains actually no joke it better I’m in Perth but the channel for Perth is a bit you know but I love yours
14:33 Bairnsdale is the last station on the VLine network in that direction, it extends past Traralgon by 4 stations. Need a paper ticket though. Though it looks like there's only about 3 trains per day in that direction, so that explains why I'd never heard of a train past Traralgon ...
That's true but the average passenger doesn't know it was the Bairnsdale Line. Especially those only going to E Pakenham
And almost nobody has heard of the Maryvale branch…
So to serve future development but there’s development in Clyde and no train extension as of yet yes I don’t see a problem with pakenham east because if it has the purpose of the bottle neck sure good planning
What's an X'trap doing on the Pakenham line 😂
Have used the Pakenham quite a bit over the years. It's definitely sad to see the old station go, but good to see the at the line is being extended (Ever so slightly) to East Pakenham right now for future population to use when the population does eventually explode in that area (and beyond).
Test run :)
I was at school 😢 I really wanted to go and see this station and meet TH-camrs
Always another time
All aboard the express service to East Pakeham
went and had a look myself at East Pakenham my only issue is the bus stops being a fair way away from the entrance.
i did notice the Purple and Blue line on the Pakenham platform signage, both for platform 1 and platform 2, this would make Pakenham station an oddity within the metro network being served by both V/Line and Metro Up services, and would make it the only non-terminus station served by both Metro and V/line on both Up and Down services.
Nice catch. And yes that would be true!
Other than Berwick and Dandenong…
Berwick gets one VLine train stopping in each direction each day.
Awesome video Mate you know the new Keon park station is under construction and the level crossings at Keon parade intersection has been removed and reopened to traffic and new traffic lights intersection new connection to new station and the new Keon park station opens on Friday 21st of June can’t wait 😊👍🚉
Same here. Can't wait to see it!
@@StrayaTrains Me too mate😊
hello btw EDI Comeng 324M will reach its 42nd Birthday of service on July 2024. its the comeng carriage that has operated the longest on the Melbourne Suburban Train Network
Exciting!
@@StrayaTrains r u gonna do a video about this
There was so much delay today, trains were late up to 30 mins
Just noting that that test train at the start was Set No 70, the last of the extended HCMT order. Haven't seen No 69 yet. I'm wondering which crossing was No 80 or didn't they bother assigning a specific number to the 3 that have gone at Pakenham.
Indeed it is!
Is the font size on the information systems adjustable? If not, then probably they had to do it as "E Pakenham" because "East" wouldn't fit?
Maybe yes. I reckon it will get changed in the future
Also Pakenham is now on the East Pakenham Line and East Pakenham is the terminus of the East Pakenham Line.
No, it is still the Pakenham Line
@@slysnake5617 Oh oops 🤦
@@slysnake5617 Interesting it says East Pakenham line at 4:19
How was the "E PAKENHAM" desto board and PID displays confusing? I'm not even from the state, I'm in QLD, and I don't find that even a tiny bit confusing. If anything, maybe looks unprofessional, but not absolutely confusing 😅😂
Great that it's happening. Bit cr@p that there's no trains on opening day lol
Lol
Meanwhile, Cranbourne East, Casey Fields and Clyde STILL don't have stations
i cant believe it! wow! but is there a customer service hub?
Only at Pakenham
thanks...
They should’ve middled the car park so it’s easier to get to the station
I wonder who that guy is at the end of the platform with the red backpack at 1:24?
Lol that you?
@@StrayaTrains There’s only one way to find out!
Tune in tomorrow at 9am for a new video 😉
Why did the did the new extension is it for people that won’t get to Pakenham?
I saw Taitsets video and the surrounding had some weirdd stuff like pole dancing 😂 💀
Are there spots for local bus service? If so, how many?
Looked like bus bays. Not sure which routes though
@@StrayaTrains 👍
I notice the signals are lit. Does that mean there’s no CBTC?
CBTC ends at Westall
Correct. CBTC only goes as far as Clayton!
Does this mean all the advertising etc now becomes the East Pakenham line and not the Pakenham line?
There has been debate over what it is called. Most likely the East Pakenham Line
Do you think that east pakky will see a comeng train at all ???
Most likely at some point
Last I heard Comeng trains are no longer allowed to (East) Pakenham, account electrolysis(?) issues being solved by changing something that stops Comeng trains being allowed to run there.
V/Line Trains?
Not running yet
Bunyip and Longwarry duplication is almost done. They're testing the new tracks, signals and points with Velocitys and locomotives for another week or so. It only took them 4 years too.
Do you have any idea why they actually built the station cause I am confused
3 level crossings got removed when the new Pakenham station was put in.
Cheaper than building a 4-track sky rail
Not sure
Infrastructure that will enhance Victoria's productivity for decades and decades.
The whingers and the main stream media beating up about the money spent, the usual myopic schtick.
We cannot have infrastructure without spending money.
Roads have been sucking up infrastructure spending for decades and all it has led to is congestion
Thank you Dan Andrews for your forward planning and vision to help all Victorians.
Don't mention his name ever again. Please.
@@Mike-pf1ru Dan Andrews has gone some way to fixing the mess that kennet created. Privatised buildling inspectors anyone?
I will shout out Dan Andrews' name whilst I have breath
@@nkelly.9 And a debt like we have never seen before. The railway level crossings removal was good, but man, we are paying now. I ignored all of his "orders" during the fiasco from 3 and 4 years ago, and have no regrets. I don;t take orders from people like that.
@@Mike-pf1ru Absolute rubbish.
Bolte's debt was far greater, and the state gained from his investments just as it will from the investments Daniel Andrews made.
Andrews borrowed money when interest rates were at record lows, it would have been negligent of him not to have acted.
The level crossings alone will pay for themselves in multiples because of the increased productivity of 100000 Melbournians not having to sit stationary at any one time waiting for trains to cross roads.
We had more horse and buggy era level crossings than all other Australian capital cities combined.
Name me one modern city with 4 million people which had 180 level crossings and no underground railway system?
Debt like we haven't seen before? Apart from Bolte's debt.
That is the trillion dollars of debt frydenbourgh and his clown show left the country for which we have nothing to show for it, got a problem with that or is it Labor debt bad , liberal debt- nothing to see here?
With whingers around like you the Snowy Mountains Scheme never would have been built;
Like a dutiful little parrot you sqwark "how much will it cost, how much will it cost"
It will cost us more not to do it.
Good on you champ for not taking orders, you are a legend in your own soiled jocks.
Myopia must be contageous in this country.
I used to see trains that said east Pakenham in 2022 and now the pid can't say east Pakenham
Oooo I’m a Cranbourne line citizen so I won’t ir see this
Personally I think it would’ve made sense to rename the current pakenham station to west pakenham and east pakenham station to just pakenham
So maybe they will move vline trains to east packie rather than do a stop at normal packie
Will stop at Pakenham and run express through East Pakenham by the looks of things :)
The only time you'll see V/Line trains stop at East Pakenham will (I expect) be when there's an occupation between there and Berwick/Dandenong/etc., and they'll terminate trains from Traralgon at East Pakenham.
Why doesn’t it say the full word oh that’s so frustrating. 😂
I know 😂
Government spending money to extend a line by 1 station but not building lines that we actually need
:(
It was cheaper to build East Pakenhan than it was to make a four track sky rail
