In this video, we view some unique and soon to be historic testing where we see the new temporary arrangement at Keon Parade get its first action. One three carriage X’Trapolis Train runs back and forth between Epping and Reservoir. During this time, the new Keon Park Station was not built yet. Hope you enjoy the video!
I used to take trains to and from Keon Park often. Personally I didn’t like the platform and waiting for the lights at the crossing were a nightmare (sometimes taking 10 minutes or more). Although I am happy to see the station get upgraded to skyrail, it’s still sad for me to see the platform gone.

i take the bus after keon park and i loved how the boom gates granted me extra time to run to the suspiciously far away bus stop

I wonder if those people in the mult storey apartments just south of Keon Park station have regretted buying at that location. Trains will be buzzing past just outside their windows.
Yea it did catch my eye. Was thinking the same in how close they were. Joked that they would have had the best view of the test train
The Mernda line is going to be a lot of better when this is done. The Mernda and hurst ridge lines are basically becoming a mini Dandenong corridor

Awesome video! I think I happened to see you around Thomastown recording. I was pretty floored when I saw the 3 car X'Trap pass by (it looked so goofy!). Good to know what it was doing on the line.

would really like the lxrp to remove main hurstbridge road level crossing. It’s the main connection (you can go on a narrow winding road around to eltham or to the other side of diamond creek) so if there’s an incident nearby it be an issue, diamond creek station and the shops next to it need to be upgraded (would like to see the shops get redone and an above ground station), and with the location next to 3 schools it would benefit people a lot.

Regent was a missed opportunity for the Bell and Preston upgrade, but happy to see Keon going up, still somewhat annoyed that pt didn’t used my suggestion and make it underground, tho now I understand due to that the nearby electrical stuff just on the opposite side of the station 😪 Ruthven, that can stay as is as that’s too weak for above ground and odd for underground due to the road next to it going down, making the underground upgrade seem odd
Underground would have been better, but it is obvious it wouldn't be feasible. It is hard to tell from the video, but in person there is an obvious difference between the distance it takes to get to ground level on the North side of the level crossing (where the power lines are) and the south side of the level crossing, so even that isn't ideal as I'm sure it will result in lower speed limits for trains than if the grade was less steep.
I honestly think they should just get rid of Ruthven station altogether as it is way too close to both Reservoir (1.1KM) & Keon Park (1.5KM from the existing station, approx 1.3KM from the new one) stations, but I don't think it will happen.

They kept the level crossing equipment
The boom gates on one side are actually new. They needed to replace them as the old ones would've hit the city-bound skyrail. This resulted in the left turn lane being closed and the old bus lane being converted into a left turn lane as one of the new boom gates is in the middle of the lane!

@@StrayaTrains Actually No. Keon Park is a separate suburb, half in the City of Darebin, and half in the City of Whittlesea, the old station technically was/is in Whittlesea, Thomastown starts at Settlement Road. and ends near the Lalor Shopping strip on station street, which was mistakenly referred at 06:00 as Thomastown.
You are wrong thomastown starts from high st after mahonys rd so keon park is thomastown nxt to reservoir 😅@bushranger51

Awesome video mate can't wait to see the trains running on city bound rail bridge on Monday 22nd January while works still happening on Mernda side with trains running down next to city bound rail bridge pass through Keon Park in Progress putting more piers to support rail bridge on Mernda side 😊👍🚉
