    The display showing the full train line, final destination, and upcoming stations between stops is incredibly inratable, especially during rush hour. Imagine being on a packed train, squeezed in the middle of the carriage, trying to read this information. It's practically impossible. It becomes difficult even for people with good vision , let alone those with low vision or visual impairments. For passengers to navigate their journey smoothly and safely, particularly during busy transit times. Improving the readability of these displays would greatly enhance the overall commuting experience, ensuring that everyone can travel with confidence and ease.

    The upgrades are making the Siemens fleet looking much better, especially the PIDs!

    The Siemens is the best out of all the trains in Melbourne. The seating provides HEAPS of shoulder and leg room. It's as though they were designed for Australian passengers and not small people with a 35cm shoulder width. The straight vertical 90 degree wall makes leaning against the window comfortable unlike the other trains in the network where the walls are angled inwards.

      What would be the point? If you're driving a car and see a train with big carriages, interior lighting and loud clackety noises passing in front of you, surely the last thing you'd notice would be little reflective rectangles.

    The Siemens trains are very quiet and smooth and very pleasant to travel in. The huge problem with them is the hard seats. After about 20 mins of travel I find them almost unbearable. As mind blowing as a 3 carriage train is, the passenger seating comfort outweighs it I think. I hope the improvements include some more padding. Interesting video. 😊

    I always enjoy riding on the Siemens, so smooth and quiet. Probably an ideal version for them in my opinion would be the current PID and seating upgrades but revert the announcement back to the original and more natural tones. I find them more appealing instead of the current computer like announcement. And for pete sake please add and in the change here announcement.

      They'll get done after the siemens fleet, it isn't like they can just do all of the trains at once. The x'trap fleet is generally newer anyway, so it makes sense to do it in that order no?

    The new internal and external displays are a welcome change. My assumption is that they were rolled out with "interim" display designs and then updated based on feedback or once the designs were finalised. I think the initial PID design, while having great visibility, was pretty grating with poor punctuation and grammar (title case - yuck).
    The sketchy reliability is very interesting to observe as LCD displays are so reliable and common.

    Was waiting for this video, I rode one of the siemens trains with those new fancy PIDs the other week. It always bugged me that they were just using the high-res colour LCDs for monochrome text, so the detailed route map was a welcome change. Definitely makes them feel modern inside even though they're 20 years old now. Looking forward to what they do with the x'traps next, especially since they have those external displays on the side like the HCMTs do, although they're already nice and bright unlike the old siemens flip displays were so are in less need of an upgrade.

  • @m31tdown
    @m31tdown 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    The older technology of the pids was perfectly fine all they needed to do is write a few more lines of text for each line and it would've been equally as good and far cheaper
