- Hello and welcome to my channel. I am a train enthusiast located in Victoria, Australia and just want to share some of my journeys with TH-cam. Please feel free to Comment your opinions and Subscribe to my channel :)
In this video, we observe history. The latest PID update takes place at Sandringham Station, solidifying the Sandringham Line as the first entire line to receive such upgrade. The history became official at 3:07pm on Wednesday 20th March, 2023. Hope you enjoy the video!
For the express station issue, maybe crossing out the station name to signify that the station is not stopped at?
Granted Sandringham doesn't have express trains yet
@@dylanshadowstar9779 I don't think that would work right now tbh
I didn't realise the ownership of Southern Cross is why their PIDs are so outdated. An upgrade is sorely needed, readability is shocking!
They rolled out the change shortly after that on the Burnley group of lines but did at first have some technical issues such as the PIDs outside of stations that were the old LED ones not functioning correctly. Luckily those issues have recently been resolved.
Easy solution for the light grey for skipping station... put it to black font and a strike-through!
The scheduled departure time is now much smaller and harder to read.
i caught 423m blowing it's rvb horn twice while trailing. it is very weird but cool and sad because it was at the back. It is cool because it is one of the only rvb comengs left. the sad thing is only 2 more rvbs left since all alstoms are now fitted with zollner makrofon. i caught 587m rvb a month ago
Cool
@@StrayaTrains only 1 rvb comeng left :(
I will say i hate rhe aouthern cross PiDs. The way they swap between showing stations and showing upcoming services. Often means you have to awkwardly stand there waiting for it to change back
They're terrible. It was honestly more useful when they had the feed from the old CRT system going through the quad video processor lol.
Yea. They are very odd those PIDs
You can’t even hear the announcements at southern cross if you aren’t under the screen bc of all the diesel fumes and engines
I struggle reading white on black, many people who have a stigmatism in one or both eyes might also have this problem. I have the same issue with venison blinds or any patterns that make my eyesight dizzy. It was easier to find the Sandringham line on the black
background at Flinders st buy only slightly. The biggest issue with that is that it’s listed on the last screen and is smaller than other lines. Other lines are written in bigger font and displayed differently but Sandringham is listed in a way that looks like it’s the second train departing after one of the already displayed one I mentions in bigger font. I hope that makes sense, it will if you’ve seen it.
Thanks for sharing
This was a pleasant surprise after work on Wednesday. They definitely wete old style before work, then on my train home i saw middle Brighton updated
Wow!
I like rhe whire background but i agree they should leave skipped stations as ----- or a line through
They now have the new PID at Chelsea station (Frankston line) and I note the missed express stations are a very faint grey (almost can't read them). No confusing them with actual stops for that service. They must have taken your advice!
woah!
I went there today in the afternoon and was wondering about the white background PID
How do you know that it happen and when it will role out with the other lines im sure i will miss the old dash bord
Was there by chance. Had no clue
Why turn off dark mode?
Lol yea
Southern Cross looks like the new PIDs with a black background.
Majority of passengers would what which service run express each station if they catch the train at every day😊
Yeah but for people who don't regularly use that line, or regularly use the the trains, then they won't be familiar with the common express patterns
I didn't even know this was happening. How come they're upgrading the PIDS?
I believe just to make it more easier. They did the city ones as it looked more organised with the line so people can see oh blue means burnley
@@theeverythingman1060 Ok, nice. Thanks.
@@theeverythingman1060see this Is good for the city or major stations like Richmond. But for individual stations, what's the point. There's no different colours if it's just one train line
Overseas inspired by having group colouring as much as possible. Similar to new white line coloured station signs. Plus a new modern layout is my two guesses
And seconds are again back!
I agree, the best of both worlds with the dark background and the line colouring would be great. I appreciate the line colouring since I can see colours easier than text, amkes it easy for me to see what line a trains is from a distance.
I'm someone who struggles with contrast as I'm vision impaired, so I'm pretty big on accessibility in software for this reason, and the greyed out text for express stations is very hard to read for me. Platform signage should be able to be read from a distance and be able to be read very quickly, and the greyed out text for express stations slows me down since I have to squint to see them properly, so I'm not a fan.
I wonder when the rest of the network will also get the new station signs with the line colouring too, seems to only be the major interchange stations, the City Loop, newly built/upgraded stations, or a few just done at random. Aside from the new colouring the bolder font is also easier to read so I'm keen for the rest of the network to be upgraded to the new signage sooner rather than later.
You should def let PTV know. That is all we can do is speak up!
thats good btw what is your favourite fast food franchise. also only 4 rvb comengs left
Not sure to be honest. And yes very sad
Damn jealous! How did you know about the scheduled change curiously?
Was there by chance. Had no clue
@@StrayaTrainsthen I guess saw the staff there and clued on?
I think the new ones are pretty, but the white font on black background was fantastic for visibility, I think the new ones can be a bit difficult in certain environments
How did you know when exactly this was happening
Do you know someone who a part of this project
Was there by coincidence. Had no clue this was happening
@StrayaTrains right place at right time
Like me today seeing a 3-car Siemens running empty cars to Westall at Hawksburn at 10:44am then at 11:20am arriving at North Williamstown seeing Siemens set 749M-750M in the brand new 2022 ptv livery like Siemens set 741M-742M
are they going to do this in regional victoria? (from pakenham up to traralgon)
Not sure
Hopefully when the new Narre Warren station opens at the end of March 2024 with a new skyrail station hopefully maybe they'll be a new white PID scrolling board.
Unlikely until line upgarded
Narre Warren has original PID not white
Hello

Not a big fan of the white backgrounds, especially the Elizabeth Street entrance at Flinders Street. The major display their can be blinding in the dark, impossible to see anything.
Not sure why they are so excited, readability is much worse, especially at night due to glare.
Sydney Trains clones. Bloody awful, to hard to see from a distance. White text on a black background is the easiest to read.
