THREE INGREDIENT PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES
มุมมอง 65ปีที่แล้ว
My favorite guest chef came over this week to help make Good Things in my kitchen. Together we turned just three common ingredients into yummy PB cookies! This recipe makes a delightful old fashioned cookie in only minutes. It can just as easily become a gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free version. If you’d like to know just how to do it, here’s my little buddy to give you the whole scoop!
ALL AMERICAN CHERRY PIE
มุมมอง 115ปีที่แล้ว
What’s more worthy of an all American holiday than the humble cherry pie!? My sweet Momma was about the world’s best at making them and it wouldn’t be a Titus gathering without one. Greatest addition to any celebration table! On this Memorial Day, I’m so thankful to all the men and women who have gone before us, giving up their very lives for our freedoms. We may have some divisions in our grea...
POOR MAN’S OLIVES made from Mustang Grapes
มุมมอง 1Kปีที่แล้ว
Sadly I had almost no dewberries this year. I don’t know if it was the weird wonky, hot and cold and hot and cold spring or just what. Anyhoo, it seems to have been perfect for the Mustang grapes. I have an abundance of them so I did a little digging. I found this super old recipe from the descendants of the first German settlers in Texas. Seems you can use them to make poor man’s olives! Aren...

NEEDLE FELTING
มุมมอง 47ปีที่แล้ว
I happened onto the ancient craft of needle felting recently .. all because my very pregnant daughter found a nursery mobile she loved. It was $150 on Etsy. Gasp! In my frugal and resourceful nature, I replied, “Oh, I can make that!” A little research and an Amazon purchase later, I was happily felting jackalopes and stars and all kinds of cute wool creations for posterity. This is one of those...

BEAUTYBERRY INSECT REPELLANT

If you were waiting for the Beautyberry insect repellent post, here it is! Using information online, I’ve made two types of extractions. I think technically the final extraction made with alcohol will be the most effective. You can use either extract for a mousse-like salve, a glistening oil, or a light spray. I am really loving all the textures and fragrances … and here’s the how-to!
ANGEL FOOD FRUIT & CREAM CAKE

Is there such a thing as a quick and easy yet elegant, no-bake birthday cake? YESSS!! This has long been my middle daughter and older brother’s annual request. Don’t you love morning and all the fresh, Good Things that we get early in the day (like mercies)!? Even when it’s hot, it’s so important to have quiet and peace before the hectic busy-ness of life’s business begins. Here’s a new place I made and some of the a.m. gifts I get at The Farm. Nothing fancy but certainly sweet to me. Happy Sunday folks!

    Best video. Too many talking about adding vinegar, salt and ice. Who has that many vinegar, salt and ice to use. Then you have those using steamers. Never had issue boiling eggs that don't stick because I did this exact way without understanding why.

    What about an emulsifier and a preservative?

    • @lindalandisafewgoodthings5356
      @lindalandisafewgoodthings5356 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I really didn’t need an emulsifier on those products. They seemed to do just fine without. And yes on preservative! Since I posted this, I have begun about adding a preservative in any water based products that won’t be used within a few weeks. Definitely something you would want to increase usable life without risk of bacterial consequences!! I’ve made some salves and other products from plantain leaf this season and I am using Optiphen Plus for any products containing water. Thanks for asking. I may need to add that info to the post!

      I am soooo sorry I just saw this note. Yes, of course meringue is safe to eat without using the torch. That only darkens the top layer anyway and does not really cook your meringue. As long as you use fresh eggs, there is no concern! I hope it was wonderful and you enjoyed it. Please let me know!

    Long story short. I just came from South Central Texas. I saw the Beauty Berries for the first time. Picked, washed and chilled them. Packed them in my suit case and brought them home to Southern Oregon to make jelly. I saw many recipes but I liked yours the best! Your sugar content with the lemon juice and butter just made sense.😊 I made 9 little jelly jars with 3 cups of juice. All of the jars sealed properly. Who puts eggs in a fridge...so dumb

    • @lindalandisafewgoodthings5356
      @lindalandisafewgoodthings5356 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dave! Granted, yard eggs which have not been washed and still retain the “bloom“ from the laying process can be safely kept at room temperature for a VERY long while. Unfortunately, commercially farmed eggs are washed and processed removing protective bloom from the hens, so they don’t last as long. Refrigeration is encouraged to preserve the life of commercial eggs. So, in answer to your question: most people keep eggs in the fridge.

    • @davefinn3526
      @davefinn3526 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lindalandisafewgoodthings5356 must be an American thing. I was brought up on a farm,we never kept eggs in a fridge. I suppose let people do what they want.

    • @lindalandisafewgoodthings5356
      @lindalandisafewgoodthings5356 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davefinn3526 Hi Dave. Actually lots of Americans who live on farms don’t refrigerate their eggs. It’s just what happens of necessity when eggs are commercially produced. They don’t last as long because of the processing and therefore refrigeration is suggested for preservation…even in other countries.

    • @lindalandisafewgoodthings5356
      @lindalandisafewgoodthings5356 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! But they are also very tangy, mostly because these grapes are very sour to begin with. I’m sure a lot of the final flavor will depend on the amount of vinegar (or possibly if you just use a salt a water brine!) and your particular ingredients. I think you could use almost any olive recipe on line. I think I’m going to try to make some that could taste like okra pickles next year!!

    • @lindalandisafewgoodthings5356
      @lindalandisafewgoodthings5356 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are pretty tangy, but I didn’t eat a huge number of them (yet)! I would assume that pickling them is much like pickling green tomatoes. Unripe tomatoes contain tomatine and solanine which are both known to cause gastric distress, but when brined or pickled they do not. The process eliminates the astringency, so I’m hoping it’s the same effect with these little Mustang grape olives!!
