Thanks for your comment. I hadn't really thought about it as it never seemed to be an issue. It's actually very easy to slip the distaff off my pinky and turn it 180 degrees, but I've also just unwrapped the fiber one turn by bringing the distaff under the fiber (or the fiber over the distaff....sort of a combination of the two, I guess. Lol).

I’m a fan of the 1.0 and the 1.1, too. I’ve had no issues with my 1.0 and I’m still spinning in the original motor. The 2.0 was intended to be an improvement on the 1.0, but don’t think it worked out that way. It does have improvements; the tension knob is nice to have, the motor is stronger and the electronics are improved, but I think the material choice was wrong. People are seeing grooves cut in the orifice hole in short order, the lack of take up could be due to the maidens being too close together (there is a fix where you get the plastic hot and bend them outward to make more room for the flyer). The hooks on the flyer arm slip too easily (you can warm them up and squeeze them while the cool so the fit tighter and to be fair, the wire hooks on the 1.0 weren’t perfect, either, but I think they’ll outlast the plastic hooks). I hope Maurice will go back to the harder plastic on the next iteration. It’s still a lot of wheel for the money and I was able to use my 2.0, but I didn’t keep it and still use my 1.0 regularly. I would try the fix to spread the maiden arms a bit. You should not have to spread them at all when dropping the flyer into place. The bearings should drop right into the cradles. You may have corrected that with sanding the bobbins but I’d start there. Good luck. I hope you get it sorted.

@@uncosito thank you for a reply, I agree my 1.1 is a good cutie, with the nano 2.0, I have heated it up to reposition the maidens, but it still isn't helping, i went through all the other trouble shooting steps with no change in its performance. Could it have anything to do with the motor, I know I'm just reaching there, I'll certainly be using my older nano but I'll persevere with trying to fix my 2.0 and my friends 2.0. I got my Nano2 in November and have since spun up a storm… no issues at all. I’m sorry you have takeup issues. Perhaps you have one that’s faulty? I have to say, I got mine through a reseller at a craft convention as I live in Europe and got to try it out there, right out of the box… and took that exact one home with me. I’d asked if I could try out the one I wanted to buy and they had absolutely no issues with my request. My only regret is that I should have gotten an extra set of bobbins right then and there.

@@eddavanleemputten9232 yes I love my nanos, yes I've got 2, the 1.1, and the 2.😊 Yes I got one for myself and one as a gift for a friend, and they have the same issue, which is they won't take up the yarn onto the bobbin. I've contacted Maurice and I've done all the trouble shooting things in the instruction book, and watched the trouble shooting video and followed the instructions from that. Mine works a bit better, the strange thing is the work sort of ok anti clockwise, but won't work clockwise. My friend has given up on hers, I persevered with mine and it's ok. Even though I've had trouble I'd still recommend the nanos to anyone asking about them, they are so portable and affordable. Plus I've found that as I get older my treadle spinning wheel gets heavier every trip to an event or guild group meeting so the little ones are great to carry around. Yes I know what you mean, I got the 6 bobbins with mine and I wish I had more but the postage from the US to Australia is quite expensive so I just have to be satisfied with what I've got. @@howlingwind1937 - I’m so sorry to read that the issues remain. As you’re living in Australia, sending the Na os to Maurice to take a look at isn’t really an option. I’m wondering if there isn’t a possibility of taking them to a craft fair at a reasonable distance from you if a reseller of the ba os is attending as well. They might be able to find out what’s going on. “Show and tell” often works best in troubleshooting. Some times it’s something really small. I tremendously enjoy my Nano2 and really hope some day soon you find a solution! The main reason I got mine is that I wanted a wheel but I can’t treadle for more than a few minutes without experiencing nerve pain. Not very conducive to spinning unless it’s with an e-spinner. My house being so small and my budget being just about as small as my living arrangements, it was the perfect solution. Its portability is a bonus that I gladly take advantage of. That little machine has seen a lot of places over the past few months!

In the video, at 1 min 18 sec, I show how to take the cord coming from the treadle and connect it to the cord for the shafts. Is that not what you are looking for? Once the treadle is connected, the handle is disconnected. If you still have questions, i'm happy to try and help more over email. Let me know if that's okay.

Hi Carolyn, not sure I understand your question. Do you mean a kit for the treadle stand? It was with the loom when I bought it from another weaver.

That little pulley tends to come loose on the Nano. On mine, I put a few fibers of wool through the center hole on the pulley and then put it back on the shaft. It was much tighter and hasn’t been a problem since.

Hi! I believe the wooden piece is the only change to the loom, although if your loom doesn't have holes in the base for the small bolt that attaches it to the treadle stand, those may need to be drilled, also. This is mostly due to the size of the motor and the wire yarn guides. It’s a very small machine and the motor doesn’t have a lot of torque, so it can be a challenge to get good take-up if you are spinning heavier or thicker singles. Increasing the tension to increase take-up can slow the motor in the original Nano. The motor was improved on the Nano 1.1 and the soon to be available Nano 2 improves it further. I only have experience with the original Nano, so far, but the Nano 2.0 should be even more capable. The other factor is the wire yarn guides. I like these a lot and have kept them on mine, but they can also struggle with heavier singles. Many users swap these out for 3D printed guides. Don’t get me wrong; the Nano is absolutely capable of spinning a plied, worsted-weight yarn, but it shines when it comes to smooth, fine yarns.

Hi David! It’s been a while, but I believe I got them at Home Depot. They came in a pack of 6 with little hooks on them (the hooks just pop off). These didn’t have the size; they were rated for weight they would support. I think these were 1/2 or 1 pound. I’ve seen similar hooks at hardware stores, office supply stores, craft stores, and dept stores like Target. These ones are about 7/8” at the widest point (about 22 mm).

Hi Margaret! If you search on Amazon (or Google) for Inline Switch for LED Strip, you should find lots of options. They usually come in a pack of 2 or 3 switches for under $10 USD. If you want the barrel plug that attaches between the Nano and the power cord, it should say 5.5x2.1mm DC jack. If you prefer the USB connector, just add USB to the search above and it should give you switches with USB connectors. I prefer the barrel jacks because you can use them with the original power supply or with a battery or power pack.

Hi Grady! Have you watched my Getting Started video? It turned out much longer than I anticipated, but I added time markings in the description so you can see how far in I start talking about setting/adjusting tension. The Nano is atypical in that adjusting the brake tension to adjust take-up (when the yarn wraps onto the bobbin) can effect the speed much more than a normal wheel. Too much tension can really bog it down because of the small motor. I think that the stronger motor in the 1.1 probably helped to address that so if you haven't upgraded your motor, that might be an option. I'm still using my 1.0 motor. I think the key with the Nano is to use as little tension as possible...start with almost no tension on the brake and increase slowly until you are getting take up. You can set your your speed about in the middle just to get the tension set, and then once you are getting good take up, dial the speed up or down to a pace where you are comfortable drafting. Hope that helps to get you moving in the right direction!

@@uncosito Oh heyo! I'm quite tickled you took the time to respond bud! I've definitely watched your starter video and it is one of the reasons I felt confident enough to purchase one. I believe I have a 1.1 since I got it like two months ago from the dreaming robots site. After doing some trouble shooting I found two major errors in my set up. One was my bobbin was a bit loose. I put some tape around the edges so when I place the side pieces on they no longer wiggle. I'm now starting to actually get some take-up onto the bobbin instead of constantly needing to wind it up by hand. I then realized, problem two, (something you even mentioned in your video) that I need to mount the eel wheel onto something. I got some suction cups like you did, but I don't have a strong glass surface like your table. I've tried to see if they would make due, but I still get some wobble in the machine itself when I'm working. I'm debating if I want to buy a glass cutting board since I really do not wish to screw it into a plank of wood or anything more permanent like that. I did agree with your recommendation on getting a "on/off' switch for the usb so it'd be easier to save my settings. My tension is totally on the higher side so I will have to take your word and try it lower, but like I said I realize now that I'm simply grasping at straws if I don't have the machine performing properly to start. Like most of the comments on your videos have stated: I found you very informative. I'm happy you took the time to explain things in a digestible manner. I'm quite pleased with the videos length as I would not want you to cut corners for the sake of view timing. This was a pleasant surprise to come home to. Thank you, and happy spinning!

I’m not 100% certain, but I believe it was from Rasmussen, as well. I’ve had two at different times and both had the same stand, although neither were marked by Rasmussen, as the loom is.

There are so many great options for spinners now. It’s hard to pick a best. BFL is often recommended for beginners. I think Corriedale or Polwarth are good options, too. I think more important than breed is prep. I would recommend starting well prepared, undyed roving. Dyeing can sometimes compact the fiber and slightly felt it, which can make it more difficult to spin, or at least changes how it feels to spin.
