$216 Firestone Tires vs. $203 Sailun Tires | Winter Tire Battle
We NEVER had winter tires back in the day and did just FINE...and the winters were worse than now...
I had a set of those once. Going 10mph around a soft turning lane in the rain I touched the painted line and my car went completely sideways. They channel water away great but they have no lateral grip. Don't fall for their gimmick.
Oh, that scratch from hex key at 00:06:16 😶
is that still an issue? only in favella's in Rio or Caracas i guess?
His analogy is flawed. Comparing Chinese made products using Apple is wrong because Apple controls the manufacturing, the components and the methods of manufacturing. He needs to compare an Apple phone to Huawei phone. If he does that, the lack of quality for the Chinese phone are beyond obvious. This is the same for all western countries who have manufacturing facilities in China. The problem arises when you look at a Chinese sourced tire. Something like a lionhart which is a Chinese owned tire. Nice looking tire but the rubber compound contains contaminates that affect the curing of the rubber. The belts inside the tire so not finally the way to the edge and the bead sometimes isn't complete, meaning that there may be gaps in the cord that makes up the bead. Talk to a tire installer and they will tell you which tires they have the most difficulty balancing and which tires will have problems on the highway due to defects inside the tire and it will ALWAYS be a Chinese brand tire. And yes, major brands to make tires in China... But can you be sure that that Michelin tire is ACTUALLY a Michelin and not a cheap copy which is what China is MOST famous for?
Best way: spray your tires with cat pee lol.
This is only half a test. Where are the ice and snow handling tests?
Ditch the music. It doesn't help at all.
The difference in the tire warranties is because 100,000 kms is actually closer to 62,000 miles while 95,000 kms is almost exactly 60,000 miles ( a little lower actually ).
Car dealers give us monkey little wrenches to change tires. Bolts are put on so hard we can not open them. In 1970-2000 things worked easily. Today assholes have screwed up the whole system.
I put a set of Hakkapeliitta 10’s on my Subaru Outback last week. Yesterday I drove out on the ice road on our local lake. Full braking from 70km was straight and smooth. Flooring the gas pedal from a dead stop the tires grabbed the ice and never slipped. Granted Outbacks are not known to be a powerhouse but one does not drive that aggressively even on drive pavement. As for being a great snow tire, I haven’t tried it yet. You can always judge the snow conditions and drive appropriately or not at all, with ice, you just never know when it might be between your tires and the road. I’ll feel a lot safer this winter.
Made in Mexico...
Nothing on Gas Milage in real world, the reason I sit on the fence on the CrossClimate2s. That and the cost of fitting 4 of them on 20 inch wheels
I just use two sets of Gorilla spinning wheel locks. They're only $22 a set on Amazon and my lug holes are deep enough to keep a thief from getting a vice grip on the lower non spinning part. They'd have to reeeeeaaaly want my wheels pretty bad to be willing to pound a socket past two of those per wheel. (and then have to pound the stuck lug nut out of the socket so they can use it for the next one) I'm guessing they'd just move on to an easier victim.
The one thing that scares me with the r5 is the tread depths looks shallow.
The real American dream is making enough money to get away from them.
It fixed my issue. At around 140-150 kmh, I had this pulsation, vibration not big enough to make my watch rattle, but enough to be annoying. I felt it in the steering wheels, in the pedals and in the seat. At the tire shop, all BUT ONE wheel were ok, just needed to be balanced the traditional way. But ONE wheel needed the tire to be placed in a different position on the rim. That did it, I took the car on the highway right after that and the problem disappeared. Marvelous machine !!!!!
Sailun are fantastic Tried the rest and only Hancook came close but were more expensive
Got a set of 265/70-17's for my 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor to replace the worn out General Grabbers that were OEM on the truck. Since I had some past experience with Nokian Hakkapellita snow tyres, I knew that Nokian would have a great product. Absolutely love them so far.
Buy the Goodyear soon, as the Mango Mussolini is putting a 25% Tax on these as they are made in Chile
The problem with your analysis and determinative factor in using these tires is that climate change is causing 30 to 40 degree changes within a single day. I have experienced this in my region of the northeast, with swings of temperatures from the 20s to 60 degrees.
i bought Cross climate 2. Best tires I've ever driven on. Does everything well.
GY sucks.
I have the Hakkallackapelliitta 10 on the front of my lowered Prius. I can plow through a foot of snow, even up hills. My favorite is driving around big lifted 4x4 trucks that are sliding everywhere. I don't even notice when it's icy until I see cars off the road in ditches.
Your Problem is a light vehicle on balloon tires Nothing to do with M/T 33x11 MT on a GMC Crew Cab Diesel 4x4 Dually worked better on snow and ice (and BF Goodrich are Garbage) it had new stock ish sized snows on it when I bought it
Have to try these next time. I have the michelin x ice for the first time, and they are ok. Had an old set of blizzaks that I had from the car bought, and those were very good.
Cross climate 2’s are actually rated at a winter tire level with the Triple Peak Mountain and Snowflake symbol… these imo are the future of tires… you don’t need to change them… like it should have always been.
*My Cinturato's work great with my RWD mid engine sports car, in northern Ohio, and southern Canada, year round.*
Amination? Cazzo? Viration?
Never again! Just out of warranty and only used winter icebtyres for 3 months every year since bought… had still 5-6 m of tread depth… the car failed its MOT because the cord was coming through the tread… not the side walls or outer edges, the middle of the tread!! Alignment all okay before anyone mentions that too… called Goodyear and because they were 2 weeks out of warranty they wouldnt do anything for me!! Nothing! 2 weeks out of warranty with 5-6m of tread!! All 4 tyres were the same! Never again! Ever!
fair comment. I totally agree with you.
I have owned 14 Mercedes Benz cars in the last 36 yr. I got an as new 2022 GLA250 4Matic in July with 18854 km on it. It came with Conti 235/50 R19 run flat tires which now have 21545 km on them. They are in the bin today. What crappy tire for MB to put on any car. Pure crap. Hard ride, noisy and handling IMHO unsafe. I would have preferred Nokian WRG5 based on WRG4 on two non Benz cars but they were not available in my size so the choices came down to these two tires, I couldn’t find enough info on line to strike a difference between them so I bought the Good Years on price. Much better ride, hugely different in handling and somewhat quieter. Shame on you MB.
I use Ev tires used on my iCe car, my fuel improves and handle, quiter ride, just the futures of tires.
Crossclimates 2 over 2 years ago best tire Ive ever have mounted on 2008 vw rabbit year round in Spokane Wa. no need for snow tires. they corner great and leave off the line like a tiger. will buy again
I’ve been using the Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady on my 2008 CR-V AWD for 5+ years (on second set), really impressed with them. Will definitely look at the WeatherReady 2 next time I need tires.
GY's are over 4lbs. per tire heavier for my size compared to the CC2's and from stock tries that's over 7lbs per tire for the GY's!! I installed the CC2's on my previous car and loved every aspect of them. Because of the weight I will go with the CC2's once again!
I have the Michelins on my daughter's Kia Niro. They started out really well with good traction. As they've aged however the rubber seems to have gotten much harder and provides less traction. My beef with Goodyear's is that I never get close to the rated mileage before they're worn out. Your results may vary.
2:33 if there is one thing Akron knows it's bad roads 😊
The cross climate 2 is definitely a great tire not only that but it performs down to replacement level exceptionally well however it is a few years old and I think some of the competitors are starting to catch up with various trade-offs in mind, I have one car with the CC2 and another with Bridgestone weather peaks.
My Korean Hankooks were garbage after 20k miles. These new Yokohamas (Japan) were made in the phillpenes so we shall see
they make the biggest difference on the road too...
I just don’t understand why there is still no better solution after so many years and with modern technology, and considering how much science and know-how goes into making modern tyres, I also think the solution should be something fitted to the Rim, Not the tyre. Something that keeps the rim off the ground when the tyre is flat, but that should also allow for the tyre to be changed. Why not a simple hard tube, made of old tyres, something like the foam inserts that are available for off-road motorbike tyres……..
Why are they made in Chile instead of the United States? see 35 seconds into this video. Look quick😮 I just bought a set of the first generation for my wife’s car.
Goodyear has been aiming straight for Michelin lately and seems to do a good job. This tire is a winner. Just want to correct one thing : Michelin pioneered thread grooves that gets wider when the tire is worn (back on the Premier A/S and some heavy truck tires as well) and the CrossClimate 2 does have this technology and does advertise best in class performance when worn.
Which in your opinion is better; the weather ready 2 or Remedy Wrg5?
Just picked some up for $103.00 Canadian for 205/55r16. Great tire for my elantra gt in the snow and are quite enough on the highway. 225/60r16 are $130.00. They are going on my Chrysler.
All tires have a gauge on them. Not numbered but at the depth for being legal or not , a bar runs across the tire sidewall to sidewall. You just have to look. Don't need a penny to see if they are still legal , but that works too.
Winter tyres expense for 2 days of the year then take them off to put summer tyres on.
The Michelins cost us 3 mpg on our Escape Hybrid and after 20k became noisy as heck with a loud drone. Changed at 50k and 3/32 tread and the next tires were super quiet, showing it was indeed the CC 2's
Regarding the "built-in wear gauge" - in the US west states like CA have tire chain requirements, which are often (depending upon conditions) waived with AWD/4WD and M+S. M+S is legal with 6/32 or more tread. So, this is a cool feature for that reason.
