  • If you own a rugged truck and you love off-roading, then you’re probably riding on a set of tough Mud Terrain tires. But are those tough-looking tires going to be any good in the snow. The answer to that question is yes… and no. Let me explain as we talk tires.

    I couldn't disagree more. I've used snow tires and mud terrain tires. Mud terrain tires out performed snow tires, even on ice. The only thing that mud terrain tires were not good in, was deep sand.

      You should talk to the guys in Iceland. They don't run MTs because you want the snow to stick to turn tire. MTs are made to eject debris. And that's why they aren't good in deep powdered snow. They can work in shallow snow and aired down. But they're not as effective in deep powdered snow where you want to float on top rather than dig down to the bottom because that's how you get stuck.

      @chrisking6695 Haha.. I have dual citizenship with Iceland.. my mother was icelandic and I lived there until I was 7 yrs old and I've been back on numerous occasions. They do crazy mods to transverse the Highlands of Iceland, and they do indeed use mud terrains.
      What you should do is ACTUALLY try mud terrains in the deep snow and winter, vs going off with ZERO experience using MT's in various terrains and driving situations.

      @russiaKGB Bring it to Colorado.
      The Rocky Mountains. We go to over 13,000 feet all summer. You be flat before you know it and crying. Those are smooth rocks not daggers.

      Exactly. These folks that say muds are bad on ice, have never used them in winter, icy conditions.

    90% of all off roaders don't need MTs.
