Great to see more manufactures are making these "Make Sense" All-Weather tires for most consumers that lives with all four seasons without the need & cost of buying 2nd set of tires, storage space & swapping out tires twice a year. Look forward for some real world tests on the TH-cam in the near future.
@fartman10284 it's not about popularity, it's about capability. For years, everyone has been improving their all season tires to be better in the snow. Mostly because nobody could figure out how to make a winter compound that would survive hot summer roads. *Nokian uses the same compound for all their tires now.
No, you people need to realize that winter conditions is a serious matter, and learn to adapt. These tires are not the answer, as they will be way worse in summer conditions, and they´ll wear a lot faster than your regular summer tires. I live in Scandinavia, we always change our tires. We had some "all conditions tires" in the 80´s, but nobody uses those anymore. You should learn from our experience, rather than go through this entire shitshow on your own. Winter tires will always be better in cold conditions, and summer tires will always be better in the summer.
@olenilsen4660 that's absolutely not true though. Things improve, and there are all weather tires that are outstanding in the summer. They're just not going to rival a true, summer only tire on a race track😅 I have over 200k miles on these all weather tires, they're incredible.
@@fartman10284 Based on what I learned from other tire reviewers, Nokian and other tire manufactures, especially European manufactures has been making All-Weather tires by using winter compound with All-Season tread pattern that was only OK in dry & wet performance. It's only been less than 7~8 years now tire manufactures are heavily developing new compounds to make the performance more evenly throughout all different temperature conditions. Innovation is always good when it enhances the safety of our lives.
My WRG4s are great all year round in Canada. No need for dedicated in winter, summer only tires are for sports cars only. I'm getting these on my second car this spring.
Got a brand new hybrid SUV 2 wks ago and was debating this remedy wrg5 or the Outpost APT…both all weathers but with the added all terrain ability of the Outpost APT plus the semi rugged design of the tires and deeper treads (13/32 vs 10/32) I got the Outpost fitted instead. So far happy with them!
A channel for fellow tire nerds. Cool! I have been using the WR for about 20 years. 4th or 5th set. First 2 or 3 on a crv and currently first set on a Crosstrek. They never last more than about 65k km. The prorated warranty has mostly come through for me. I am not hard on them, rotate them regularly and keep them properly inflated. I think that the compromises just don’t allow 100k. Granted, I don’t have first hand experience with other brands over a long period but I think tread wear warranties are marketing fluff. That said, I still think these are great tires. The winter safe tread depth is gone on mine now with a year or two of dry tread left. Kind of a bugger with winter coming. I think I will invest in a second winter set, maybe the Nordman North. Then maybe the Outpost when the WRs are done. Nokian seems like a decent brand.
I would say they wont peeform as well as ghe best in class summer tire or winter tire butbin my opinion they do better than most tires in bith catgories. I had the WRG4 SUVs on my tuned Audi SQ5. Superb tires.
I'm trying to decide between the Nokian Remedy WRG5 and the Pirelli P7 as Plus 3 tires. I live in British Columbia, where we do experience snowstorms occasionally, but not too frequently. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Depends on if u drive out of town or not. Plus if ur worried about ice. All weather tires are fine but if ur going to the mountains forget it. There’s a lot of factors u have to understand that
You don't mention the 3 peak mountain snowflake does not make an all weather tire, an all weather tire has adaptive rubber compound which makes it softer in cold weather compared to an all season tire, that said the Nokian WRG4 and WRG5 is an all weather tire. Other tires in the category are the Michelin crossclimate 2, Goodyear weatheready, also Toyo, Bridgestone and Firestone have an all weather tire
These are great tires for those people who get the occasional snowstorm in the winter months. But if your lawn is covered by snow for more than 1 month in the winter, then it's probably best to get a set of dedicated winter tires on separate steel rims instead.
Rims are irrelevant. In Norway, most people use alloy wheels no matter the season. The tires are ALWAYS specific, though. We had "all season tires" for a while, but they were all rubbish in the winter, and got shredded in the summer. And that fact still applies. You can´t have the best of both worlds. So I second your conclusion - If you sometimes encounter winter conditions, but not regularly - these might be your kind of tires. However, remember that they are not as good in hot conditions.
I've had WRG-2, WRG-3 & WRG-4. The WRG-4 is getting noisier and noisier--to the point I think it sounds like I have a wheel bearing problem, even changed one wheel bearing, that was not it--it was the tire. I liked WRG-2 best.
Why the hell would you go around changing wheel bearings without diagnosing. You can literally put a 10$ stethoscope on the back of the wheel and verify .....
I just replaced my WR G4's for dry rot cracking of sidewall and tread not with the WR G5 but with the Michelin Cross Climate 2's. Nokian dealer told me I was SOL, 6 year mfg date, 5 year use, 30K miles. Can't risk buying Nokian again. Plus dealer said would give me 20% off but jacked up the price per tire to over $250 each, more expensive than tire being sold elsewhere and more expensive than even the Michelin CC2.
I own Nokian for almost a decade. I guess Nokian was EV ready before even TSLA came out. Its 2024 and now we got Michelin Cross Climate 2 contender out and I am also out for tire hunt. Anybody here tested out Michelin Cross Climate 2 and base compare with WRG5?..tell me Good, bad and ugly in the comparison. Thanks
I hate the 3Peak Mountain Snowflake. It’s rather misleading. It’s just an acceleration test on moderately packed snow. That’s it. Doesn’t include a benchmark for braking, doesn’t include a benchmark for compact snow/ice, doesn’t include a benchmark for handling. Just a simple acceleration test. In my opinion it needs to be updated so a more rigorous standard.
Good tires are for people that can’t afford to crash due to unforseen circumstances. But I do get that you’re implying that more successful people tend to be more inteligent and responsible.
It was Nokian that invented the winter and more recent all weather tire segments. The WRG4 has many hundreds of positive customer reviews and numerous field evaluations.
Disagree. The WRG4 are amazing in the winter on my FWD Accord manual. My friend with Blizzak winter tires on his BRZ couldn't make it up the same hill.
Yes they are expensive. you get what you pay for. Nokian specializes in winter tires and currently the WR10 studded is by far the best studded tire on the market I guess if you've owned every type of Nokian you must have owned over a hundred by now. they have been in North America since the 70's
perfect for Southeast Michigan.

Nokian has been making All-weather tires for around 20 years now, well before the All-weather trend became popular.

Pretty surprised not to see Michelin cross climate 2 discussed much on your program. Is there a reason, or just not got around to it? Thank you.

Pirelli have NO idea what they´re doing with winter tires. They´ve failed horribly in tests up here in Scandinavia.
Jack...this WRG5 or the Pirelli Scorpion WeatherActive?
Where to buy?
Only at Kaltire in Alberta

Each tire you just mentioned has the 3PMSF symbol all weather rating on the sidewall.
Nice to see rear consumers have choices sore tires for all seasons. No tire can ever do it all but the consumer can make his choice.
To keep warranty you would have to rotate your tires every 10k 😅
That's normal
Who cares? Kaltire who is the authorized dealer in Canada for Nokian…. offer free lifetime tire rotations and flat repairs when you buy from them.

The wrg4 nokians outperformed many winter tires in a test I saw. I've had them on my cars in Minnesota and they were fantastic in the snow.

THANK YOU!!!!! :)
Yeah, I like the scorpion weather active
What about my nice aluminum rims getting hit with brime & salt?, I'm gonna stay with two sets.
I have not found steel wheels at 18 inches, only up to 16 inches.
Jack, could you review Nokians Tyre one.. please. an in depth test. How it performs in dry and wet. please
Nice!
get the cross climate 2s instead
DWS for summer. Hakkas for winter. Simple as
👍
Do yourself a favor. Get a set of CROSS CLIMATE ll I have had both and the Michelin are way way better
Don't have a 700hp so won't be driving on summer only tires thanks lol.
So, just like every other all-season tire?
It’s all weather….different from all season.
Do some reading and educate yourself before making such a daft remark.
