Son Guilford was never a King. Likewise, Lady Jane Grey was never a Queen. So Sad they were born into an era (late 1500's) when the Politics of English Men equals bulleys who could force teenagers to marry like Robt Dudley's Dear Ol' Dad did to his youngest son Guilford. I so agree with your charles/camellia thought. Granted, we wouldn’t have William and Harry, but Charles and Diana would’ve been, or at least we hope they would’ve been happier, and in Diana’s case alive, in the autumn of their lives.

Hi Alice, a beautiful and meticulously detailed biography of Elizabeth's most vital and supportive companion during her long and lonely reign as queen of England. He was the one exception to the rule when it came to Elizabeth's mistrust of men like her father and step father. I wonder how she would have lived had Mary of Scotland chose to marry Robin instead of Darley. It would have changed both of their future lives dramatically. Sorry you lost your voice at the end, the cold season is upon us an we have to remedy A hot tea with some honey mixed in can be helpful. Robert Dudley is a distant relative of mine

I did not like Robert Hardy portraying Robert Dudley in "Elizabeth R." He was too old and not athletic or fit enough to play Dudley, particularly as a young man. I also do not like the way Robert Dudley was portrayed in "Elizabeth," the film with Cate Blanchette, although Joseph Fiennes looked "fine." But the script demeaned Dudley's reputation.

Aww u didn’t like the Gunpowder series?! I really liked both parts, in different ways 😂 James and “widen the plot!” was a cheeky comedy, whereas I mostly dug the chemistry between Mary & Bothwell (love that actor despite blanking on his name). Actually there’s a bunch of good actors, imo. Idk I stand by it!

This is the 1st time I’ve heard someone make sense of Mary’s 1st marriage to Carey; Given how ambitious her dad was, it’s always been a curious choice… But he’s the perfect beard for H8 to pick as a babydaddy figurehead 🤔 surprised I’ve never heard this theory!

My favorite Elizabeth and Robert are Helen Mirren and Jeremy Irons.

I really disliked how disgusting they made Henry… he was continuously sticking his fat fingers in women’s mouths for some reason (literally examining a woman’s teeth during one meal). I get what they were doing, but Henry was a snobby educated Renaissance prince, not a barbarian (in etiquette atleast lol). He even sent out for a chivalric executioner ffs! 😂

Re: Joe Alywn/Taylor Swift jokes, I'm not sure what you were implying, but I feel like the lyric "I'm pissed off you let me give you all that youth for free" may be something Elizabeth could relate to
