My personal favorite of Jane Austen novels is Sense and Sensebility (mainly bc I love Marienne Dashwood). However Pride and Prejudice is a close second. I'm glad someone finally says that Mr. Bennet is a bad parent, Mrs. Bennet isn't the best, but at least she cares.
I love "The other Bennet Sister." It's one of my favourite novels based on Jane Austen. Did you know that there are two follow up novels to Lizzy Bennet Diaries? There is one that is "The Secret Diary of Lizzy Bennet," which takes place at the same time as the web series. There are things that happen during this time that Lizzie chose not to post. There is also a sequel novel from Lydia's point of view called "The Epic Adventures of Lydia Bennet: The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, Book 2."
The Other Bennet Sister is such a lovely read! The arc Mary goes through to learn to value herself and assert herself is so beautiful and satisfying and the romance is such a cosy slow burn mix!
Please, Please, Please! Do 'Wuthering Heights" when you get back? The Movie/Series of this novel just don' t get enough attention and i would love to hear/see your opinions of the various interpretations over the years. Thanks so much for another great video and I hope you enjoy your hiatus!
Even the narrator in P&P admits that Mr Bennet is a neglectful father and husband! He's beloved by Elizabeth and Jane, and he's not a bad person, but he's not a picture of constructive fatherhood 🙂
Since my Favourite Austen is Mansfield Park (influenced mostly by the 1983 BBC miniseres), I have to admit that the dismissive treatment of Mary Bennett in the Text of PAP rubs me the wrong way.
I love north and south too! I got into an Austen phase last year and listened to the books on audible and when I finished them all I was itching for more and found north and south and then Mary Barton (by the same author) after. They gave me a similar feeling and I really enjoyed them :)
I really love Lost in Austen. I think it's a bit disarming on the first watch, but once you're used to what they are trying to, its a very enjoyable watch.
I started reading Pride and Prejudice, but the edition I chose was so bad that I abandoned the book and couldn't enjoy the story properly. I'm from Brazil, and here there are several editions of this book from different publishers and the one I chose came from a publisher that... They do everything as cheaply as possible, that is, everything is of the worst possible quality. One day I will buy another Pride and Prejudice book and read this story my way, where I can read it with a good translation, layout and finally become immersed in the world of Jane Austen ❤
I really liked Northanger Abbey myself, although I never got the chance to finish it at the time. I was told it was a good introduction to Austen and for once, one of my English teachers were right! Thanks for your coverage on Pride and Prejudice. I whole-heartedly agree that there needs to be justice for Mary. Speaking of which, I recommend checking out 'The unexpected Miss Bennet' if you haven't already. It's another good Mary story; at least, I think so.
Ikr, she’s such a versatile actress! I really love her performances in Martin Chuzzlewit, Cranford and Lark Rise to Candleford if you fancy checking out more of her period drama roles :)
Now that I remember there is a spin-off trilogy of books about the kids of Lizzie Bennet and Tilney solving murder mysteries together! The first book is called The Murder of Mr. Wickham!
I remember watching Bride and Prejudice once. Now that I'm seeing the clips again - Aishwarya Rai was a really excellent modern Lizzie! Smart and outspoken, but with a strong sense of loyalty for her family. I think the main reason the movie fell flat for me because of the blandness of Mr Darcy here (Bingley was much more spirited!), all of the Indian cast was excellent and Austen's social mores worked pretty well when translated into modern-day Indian environment, so there wasn't much need to tweak the story to make it work for modern times.
I never understood why people accept the 2005 idea that the Bennets should be living in dirt. They are wealthy, they’re richer than the middle class of their time. They just lose their money when their father dies. If they live in dirt after their father dies that would make sense, but not before. The fact that Bingley & Darcy are even richer, doesn’t mean they’re poor.
53:30 I coundnt disagree more with your opinion of “jenna Coleman can’t act” Have you seen the bbc series Victoria ?! She does so well in that & doctor who
Knightley's portrayal of Lizzy is completely inaccurate, so I don't understand why you'd think she's THE Elizabeth Bennet. She's too rude, bratty, and crass. Elizabeth Bennet is supposed to be a genteel and sensible woman someone who is able to able to balance playfulness with poise. She understands that propriety is connected to one's wellbeing. Ehle's portrayal has far more finesse and proves that spirit can coexist with beautiful manners.
I don’t find any of the characters in 2005 accurate to the novel. It’s fair enough not to have time for all the plot points but the flattening of the characters is inexcusable.

I love how Bride and Prejudice shows how universal the story is and I feel like it enhances the story
Yay a new vlog! I’ve only read Pride & Prejudice twice! Colin Firth is still my favorite Mr. Darcy!
I love "The other Bennet Sister." It's one of my favourite novels based on Jane Austen.

My favourite is Persuasion but I do like Pride and Prejudice as well.

I loved the 1980s series and I love Elizabeth Garvie as Lizzie. Before the 1995 series, it was all we had and it was great.

Have a good trip to London
01:03:09 Yay! I love North and South too, my favourite of Gaskell's books
Could you do a hot take/review of I Capture the Castle?

I haven’t read it myself, but I’d love your take on Longbourn by Jo Baker. It’s Pride and Prejudice from the perspective of the servants at Longbourn.
17:51 Can't believe that my city of Stoke-on-Trent would get a mention in this series aha

@@LittleMissLion oh yes! And his chemistry with Felicity Jones ❤ that movie is adorable...
How was I today years old when I realized 1995 Lydia is also Saffy from Absolutely fabulous?!
Edit: MPGIS!!!!
Ikr, she’s such a versatile actress! I really love her performances in Martin Chuzzlewit, Cranford and Lark Rise to Candleford if you fancy checking out more of her period drama roles :)
I know Julia Sawahla best as the voice of Ginger in the original Chicken Run.
Now that I remember there is a spin-off trilogy of books about the kids of Lizzie Bennet and Tilney solving murder mysteries together! The first book is called The Murder of Mr. Wickham!
YOUR MAKEUP IS INCREDIBLE!!!
Love Pride and Prejudice movies all them have special charm

I no nothing about Jane Austen’s works and I’m more keen on the Brontë’s stuff but I still enjoyed the review
