Cleaning The BMW E46 Interior on a budget
มุมมอง 1.1K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
Today we give the interior of the budget E46 BMW a clean and freshen up. I mostly utilised cleaning products which I had lying around. The items I had to buy, I took the opportunity to purchase them when they were on sale 25% off. Some can be diluted to go much further. Some of the items I used may not be the cheapest but gave the best results and protection moving forward.

The drainplug M18x1,5 with hexagon socket gets 35NM
Had 2 of them over the course of 10ish years, absolutely bulletproof.
0:46 I don’t have that spark plug monitor system on my 08 m5 here in the USA! That’s nice to have
You have talent, you deserve a lot more views and subscribers. Too notch 👌 Only remark is I would have taken the engine cover off
Great video! Do you have a link for your spoiler??
@@makavelithedon27 Cheers, spoiler is factory, original to the car
you should drive the car a bit if it s cold outside otherwhise the oil is gonna be very hard to pul out
Wrong spark plugs
What you on about?
Good to see you back👍 pulled mine out the garage the other day and ran it up to temp whilst I was messing around in the garage! After about 15mins car is up to temp and I suddenly hear the engine note change! I’ve just lost a cylinder and then a thousand thoughts of terror ran through my mind! ( it’s bizarre how all the horror stories of these cars effect your mindset). Get in the car engine check light reduced power! Scan the codes: Misfire with engine cut off cylinder 6! Restart car engine still rough can smell unburnt fuel! Up pops engine light again! Turn off. Now thinking best case: ignition coil - spark plug- worst case: injector is stuck wide open. Injector and spark plug both only a few 1000 miles old,so hanging onto happy thought of most likely the ignition coil as original and 19 years old! Luckily I have a spare brand new Bremi in my parts collection so no need to swap coils around and its cylinder 6 so relatively easy to access! Swapped out and all is good again. Lucky it happened on my Driveway I guess rather than out and about! It still bizarre to hear a component just give out! One last spark and gone. She did well and has given numerous hours of V10 noise to the world💔😁
Nice one Duncs, easy fix! Not often you hear a cylinder dropping coil fail live while idling. Good you’ve already sorted your injectors. I used to always keep a spare ignition coil in the boot of my M5, as it’s not uncommon for them to fail at this age, but I’ve used them all now 🤷🏻♂️ You’ve just reminded me to organise another spare. I’ve never been game enough to splash out on all 10 at once!
That’s the first one I’ve had go to be fair! I replaced 5 & 10 when I did the spark plugs! Just cause I knew they would be the most difficult to get at! So I now have 3 Bremi’s the rest are all original stamped 2005! I picked up 4 a few years ago fairly cheap and just picked up another 4 for £37 each in an autodoc sale! I have read to avoid certain auction sites as there is meant to be fakes out there! So have stuck to known suppliers and just keep an eye out for sales.
Cod for this things , how i can found
BMWs continue to have a brand status totally at odds with their shitty build quality, reliability, and cost of running one.
If that was true, this car wouldn’t still be going strong after almost 20 years
@minorityofone1510 Well I’ve run BMW’s for more than 20 years now and they’ve been totally reliable and no more expensive to maintain than any other cars. You keep on believing the stories that you read, which are mostly written by people that have never owned one.
Pretty sure my gearbox has a leak, is there a coomoj point they can leak from? Also how can you check if gearbox oil is low?
Yes, they can develop leaks. Check the level at the fill hole
I'm very afraid of having a fatal problem with mine. But I remain confident in taking care of this jewel. After that Clarkson program badmouthing the M5, the market mistakenly began to devalue it. But I'm sure that in the future they will give due value to this trophy of human engineering.
Always a pleasure watching your videos 👍
Cheers Steve, it’s a pleasure working on the M5!
Pure therapy watching you work! Thank you!
Cheers Matt, working on the M5 is always therapeutic 👍
Thanks for the video! Both my thigh supports do the same thing. Helped a lot I feel more confident in doing the job.
No worries. Super common problem, easy job but just watch the plastic clips on the upper seat trim & the gear cover, they like to break easily now these cars are getting older th-cam.com/video/F5qIw84TOpU/w-d-xo.html
about bloody time :) ,, great to see you back and hope for better things to come

I do have a BMW car cover, no garage though. It’s fine, it’s got a massive coat of wax on the paint 👍
@@MTechGuy Very good ! im sure your climate doesnt get too cold ... cold weather is havoc for the electronics on these cars and wring imo .. mine is garaged i live in climate that gets cold .

Unbelievable, mine failed last weekend and you post a video on how to fix it. Where can I get one of those replacement gears? Excellent content keep it up and don’t ever sale your E60 M5.
Hey Melvyn, good timing! There are like a million of them on eBay & Amazon, very cheap too, got both mine off eBay. Yes doing everything I can to hang on to this car right now! Cheers

I've been procrastinating on the dash removal to get to the brake vacuum relay replacement. What a dumb location for a relay
Should be able to access it through the glove box area
Sold mine and just got it back lol feels so good!
Nice one! I’ve spoken to a few people that have owned these cars and sold them, and miss the car
@ yes! These cars are amazing machines when they run right!
How many cars do you have now 😄
Just the M5 & the E46
@ oo sold the one series?
Yep, 130i is gone
I wish that’s all I had to do on my e60😂
🤣
real
Me too, mine is throwing faults like it's spending cash at a titty bar 🤬
Thankyou mine has been off center for months I will try this but I do believe my steering rack is pretty worn
Excellent !!!
Love the videos! All great info I’ll be using on my new to me e60 M5
Cheers, thanks for following the channel. Congrats on the E60 M5 purchase 👍
Why do you pump them up before installation? Also would you not check/change the bottom mount?
If you own one of these it’s standard procedure to check the oil level and coolant atleast once a week 😄
So today i was brwosing the fuses in the glove box and one is titled "navigation japan." Mine was empty so i put the corresponding fuse in..lets see what happens when i can get the car running (currently chasing down another issue). I presume nothing will happen and i dont need it
😂
Looking forward to next e46 vid. Just did my boot struts today too. Next big thing is undersealing. Then in the spring i have some genuine 18 inch alpinas which i am going put on. If you have any other DIY jobs for the e46 would be great to get some ideas. I was going to replace the windscreen cowl but genuine bmw price for that doubled overnight...
Yo M Tech Guy. You haven’t posted a Vid for a while! So hope you are ok? I know you were heading into a storm, but it will pass, just hold the wheel true and straight and you will come out the other side! With a S85 V10 smile on your face, that the lucky few of us get to enjoy even more with the help from this channel👌 In the mean time enjoy a Beer on me 🍺 Stay strong buddy
Cheers Duncs! 👍
Is it dangerous to drive with this code for any enginparts or the engine itself? Have got the code but need to drive it some km to winterstorage etc and to workshop to fix. But have alreaddy driven some km with it and havent felt anything wrong atleast?
Common fault with the S85, the thermostat will fail safe (open) so won’t cook the engine, but it’ll just mean the engine oil will take a long time to get up to temperature. As long as you don’t rev the engine out until the oil is up to temperature, it’ll be OK
i don't feel alone, i have the same issue with the sunroof and the flea noise at high speeds on irregular roads from the directional buttons xD
Your idling higher than mine. Why is that?
Sometimes they can idle up to 900 RPM’s when warming the cats, it’s normal
hey mate for the gearbox oil mine is a e82 118d diesel does the 'LT-02' matter for example if it was LT-04 #
75W80 GL-4 fully synthetic for the manual gearbox th-cam.com/video/jZbY-jnymEI/w-d-xo.html
Hi, did you have the pieces of wood under the rear jack stands because your driveway is sloping? Mine slopes from the roadside towards the house, so which end would you suggest I lift first and also I guess the chokes may need to be positioned differently? Thanks
My driveway has a very slight fall on it, that’s why the rear axle stands were on wood. That being said, I would recommend finding a flat surface, especially if you are getting under the car
@@MTechGuy Many thanks for the reply.
Hi, is it important to have the car up fully to do this job or can you just jack up the rear and put it on stands? I mean is there any detrimant to the gearbox for example? Thanks
You won’t have much space to work
Does anybody know where is drain plug on fighter jet F16,I just bought him and winter is coming. Please help.
Well explained. Valuable information. Thank you.
@@secandar No worries, thanks for checking out the video
Just misfire on 3?cylinders
Thanks for the part number
You’re welcome Lily
my cable didn't work and I disconnected the battery. I used jumper cables on the jump port under the hood. thank goodness for those terminals
The release cable should work, but you have to pull it pretty hard
Hi i wanted to ask, due to leakage i kept pouring in distilled water only and now its starting to freeze, i topped it off with proper bmw coolant but im scared if its enough for it not to freeze and i dont have the equipment to do the draining as seen in your video (great video btw) do you think its “””okay””” if i just add pure bmw concentrate since in the cooling system its mostly just water?
Either get it tested for the correct concentration, or drain and refill it 50/50. They are the only ways you’ll know for certain. Get the leak fixed also or you could end up with an overheat situation
these vapor barrier is so expensive
Not too bad, better than having a water in the car!
@ yeah I guess still wtf it s 50 euro here .. and only bmw sells it
Good video. Thanks 👍
No worries, thanks for checking out the video 👍
