I never saw this show back in the day as I was a bit young but I remember watching Mary & Rhoda on reruns. Just watched the first two episodes and I love it! She did annoy me a bit on MTM, but she’s less annoyingly obnoxious and more endearing and vulnerable in this incarnation of her life journey. Don’t get how a dermatologist left his family penniless unless he had a secret family she doesn’t know about - yet. She did find out on the first episode that he had been dating and proposed to another woman at the same time as seeing her, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility. We shall see what unfolds…

Barbara Colby was a hidden gem; she should’ve had a show written for her; her way of delivering a well written line was hilarious.

I wish the quality was a little better, but, THANK YOU for sharing this. There is so much ugliness, hateful, just plain hate, fear, worry and sadness in the world right now, this is such a mental break, funny, and nostalgic. I knew there had been a spin off but I was a baby and have never seen these. Thank you my friend. Be Blessed in Jesus Name.

I was nine years old when I saw this program, and thought Phyllis was a better character and show than Rhoda. Cloris Leachman was incredibly funny, and I loved seeing her in Mel Brooks movies and really got a kick out of her in Broken Lizard's Beerfest! (Anyone wanna talk about the fellas in blackface who graced our TV screens every time the opening titles and song began? I still can't figure out why, in 1975 nobody balked at the idea, and I'm gonna take a guess. The song is vaudevillian in style, and the chorus line of men with shoe polish on their mugs is steeped in vaudeville tradition? Also, I notice that there is a very noticeable saturation filter on the footage of the chorus line, and this is in all of the copies I have seen of the show on youtube. Was the show's opening aired that way, or was this distortion added by the uploader or somewhere in between the transfer and the upload? If that is how the show aired every week, then it tells us even the creators of the montage knew this was, for want of a better word, a brash move even in 1975.)

This episode first aired when I was 14. I tape-recorded it on an audio cassette player. Mother Dexter's bridal shower had the best lines in the entire series. She was born the same year as my grandmother and shared the same sharp wit.

The show was set San Francisco, and there was never a gay character on the show, not even her brother (who was never even mentioned). And he was a concert pianist, and surely he could have added to the show.

"Little people" is stupid and an insult. Respect includes not thinking of someone as little much less labeling them that.

@@thecawdsquad875 I'm sure that's not true because it would be self deprecating. People that think they know better than them and the rest of us, decided for them, and I continue to protest when it comes up. Now granted, some of them might have been brainwashed by the deciders to think it's good, but a small person is a person of low character. To call a person small, is an insult on this level AND others, to an English speaker. And to whatever degree I am wrong about "others" deciding for us, I still will not be told what to call anyone by anyone, unless it is based in reality, and not derogatory if it is not the subject's fault. Maybe I know better than those that know better. Look into it.

This was indeed a good show. Some fantastic episodes in just 2 years. All the deaths were sad, indeed. The network moved this to a different night to start Season 2, cut Cloris' beautiful hair, and changed the work supporting cast. They killed it. The writing and acting is fantastic and it could have kept going. I agree... Rhoda was not a great show for more than a couple years. This one was a great show for it's whole run... with a mostly top quality writing, directing, acting, fantastic supporting cast at home, and solid guest stars. I wish there were episodes!!! Cloris is a GEM.

I would have no idea that Liz Torres was the same actress that played the woman on "All in the Family." She seems so versatile. (The medical worker that moved in with them for a while).

My mother and I used to dance like that all the time including her tossing me around til I got as big as her…. Now she’s almost 91 and isn’t able to dance anymore but the memories of it are so precious to me and I hadn’t thought about it in forever til I watched Cloris and Michael on the dance floor. Thx for the uploads and the special memories. 💖

I think the junk dealer played the grumpy delivery man who worked with Valerie Harper on her sitcom Valerie which later became The Hogan Family. He looks much younger and not as gray here but it looks like him otherwise.

☝️ Well, for starters, I love the Sitcoms.of the ( 1970s )like The Mary Taylor More show Phyllis ,,& Rhoda and the Betty Wright show Which was very brief. As I remember. she was an f. B. I agent maybe that's why the show didn't do good. I don't know. May they all rest in peace.🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯📺

That "broadway number" type intro was starting to get a tad out of date. They could've lured in composer Patrick Williams to compose a "big band-with funk" theme.
