    This was a really great show! Superb writing, acting, directing, characters, etc. I don't understand why it only lasted 2 seasons.

    I do wish they could have made LIz Torres Julie's sister or cousin or something and had Julie go off with a billionaire or win a lottery and move to Tahiti. Barbara Colby's murder was heartbreaking.

    tragic what happened to Barbara and her friend, James Kiernan. Their murders have never been solved. I guess this episode was how they brought her replacement in and have it be like Liz was originally in the part of Julie. This must have been a very difficult show especially being comedy.

      Losing cast members and keeping the show going must be tough as well as maintaining good chemistry

    That was a quick turnaround. I wonder if Liz Torres had originally been their second pick for the character. I remember hearing about the murder. So sad it is still unsolved. 😢😢😢

      Yeah, I never liked Liz Torres, she was such a bitch! Barbara Colby was very good in that role in the pilot episode, kinder than la Torrez.

      What did you expect the show to do after Barbara was murdered? She was only in a few episodes so they recast the character.

      @@cayetanotirado5907 Barbara Colby's character "Julie" offered Phyllis a job in the pilot episode and it was clear that she wanted to help her as a newly widowed woman. The new "Julie" has a completely different persona and attitude toward Phyllis, and there's no transition to it, which is strange. It wouldn't work in today's TV world. It's much like when Diana Hyland died six episodes into the show, "Eight is Enough" and they immediately replaced her with Betty Buckley.

    • @tjames9698
      @tjames9698 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Selectrolux Yeah, but they were did characters. They had no choice but to recast Julie or somehow figure out a reason why Julie wasn’t there and someone else was (maybe a sister?). LT’s Julie wasn’t really a bitch, IMHO. We never saw BC’s Julie in more to an three episodes, so we don’t know how BC would take an approach to the scripts already written before she was killed.

    Phyllis... Phyllis...
    Who makes the warning bells on the cable cars play, "The Gang's All Here"?

    It's a little sad seeing the good humor of MTM turn just a little nasty in this series, a precursor of what's to come in tv humor, sad to say. By the 1980s, thanks to Reagan, all the niceness and wonder was crushed.
