I've been an avid detectorist for 40 years, who also enjoys exploring, off road and bottle digging old sites in the Western US. My favorite detecting sites are ghost towns, military camps, gold prospecting and beaches. I use both pulse induction and VLF metal detectors. I currently use the Minelab GPX 6000, XP Deus 2, Minelab Equinox 900 and Minelab Manticore as my primary metal detectors.

Golden Opportunities In The Arizona Desert | Metal Detecting & Exploring
Hello, I am just watching videos from these metal detector professionals and my question is: What is the main motivation for doing this? They spent a lot of time, a lot of money buying expensive equipment to get pull tabs, coins, metal trash, etc. most of the time?. What you get after expending time, money and expectations? What balance the equation?
@Dannys-b5t it's not all metal trash. Some if the coins and relics found with metal detectors are worth money. I've more than paid for many of my metal detectors with the stuff I find.
Whites tdi and tdi sl had dicrimination.
@@Robert-t1p But not numeral ID
Is it worth 2500 dollars.
I would like to see the gerrett axiom sdc and the algoforce e1500 and the mine lab 6000.with the best setting as nd best small coils for hunting hold in differrent types of mineralization for small gold and the beach.
Maybe you could use the algoforce from Steve in navada and have a mini- series on this.I would really like to see how. The new kid on the block would fit in.In the gold fields and the beach sense it's closer to a vlf but has milder setting than.the minelab and gerrett for beach detecting and maybe some of the lakes creeks and rivers.
I know you sent the algoforce to Steve and he found gold with it.and so is the australians
What about for depth for heavy big piece gold Who is better?
@alb9982 based on the coils I tested the Axiom, however, the 4400 has bigger coils available and may very well be deeper when paired up with a larger coil.
@RelicsRings gpx6000 works in 1.225 khz What about axiom?
Пожалуй не стоит менять AT MAX на vortex?
the multi frequency range of the vortex (imo) makes it a toy detector
Fail.
Single frequently machines have issues?? What you mean any Garrett !!! I can name you so many single frequently units like the Golden mask , Deeptech , Makro Racer ,that will cope just fine .. When using the 340 in the test ,try less sensitivity & not scrubbing the ground with the coil, you will get a better signal ...
Informative and easy to understand. Thank you. I've got an Equinox 800, an Xterrapro, and a couple less expensive and outdated machines. I was thinking about the Manticore. But I'm the guy you talked about, which is the guy that would get confused. Think I'll hold off. Thank you for the info and the common sense.
Set a mineralized rock on top of the nugget see which detector finds it.
Dude that's not a real test. Flat ground proves nothing it's just a waste of time. Set some large rocks next to those objects then see which detector find them
My first Garrett was the 400i,i found a gold ring on the first outing, multiple 18th to 21st century coins, loved it,still have it,i'm using the deus2 right now,but i still love that 400i,believe me Garrett will sort the gremlins,Peace out from Ireland.
A Vanquish 340 is better than both IMHO...
Agreed
At this point I still see no reason to buy a Garrett, they are very lacking compared to other detectors of similar price range. It would be nice if they would come up with a higher end machine that competes with other really good machines.
@donaldphelps536 i was hoping they would release a top tier machine. Maybe next time
These machines seem years behind the other top brands on target ID.
@@kevinncj22 i agree
My Etrac is 12 years old and still blows these away. I was hoping for something better from Garrett these days, especially with them having White's intellectual property.
Thank you for showing.
Thanks for watching!
Apex is better and that’s not saying much
I don't rate either , I'll stick to my Deus 2 . Good video thanks
I hunt by the tone. I usually hunt woods or farmers fields. I don't really care if I dig a barber or indian. I dig it all . Do not hunt parks because most have been gone over a dozen times over the years.
When companies bring to market a product with bugs - it puts a great dent in the reputation of the firm and craters the image.
A very big difference between the two. Thanks for that information.
I hope it's helpful for you!
I was a garrett users and ran apex for 3 years and most of time I couldn't run muti it was unstable most of time so always use single frequency plus I always went off sound and tones rather then numbers And now I use minelab equinox and never looked back
Who in their right mind would buy a Vortex? My 20 year old Explorer 2 would out detect the Vortex with the default programs.
@@Yakena1 I still use my explorer, it just gets heavier each year as I get older😂 but still one of the best detectors out there in my opinion.
@@alleyoop5185 I chuckle to myself when I hear people say the Legend is heavy. The Explorer is over 5 lbs, and my bicep is larger on my swinging hand!
100%. I run an Etrac to this day and it has never let me down in a dozen years. Hard to beat the Minelab FBS detectors.
Good video ! The target IDs although better are to clumped together. Hopefully Garrett will get the issue resolved. The Apex definitely looked more in tune to what the Target IDs should be. Merry Christmas and stay in touch !
@southernrelicadventures Thanks, yea I think I personally like the Apex over the Vortex as it stands right now. Hopefully Garrett will make some changes. Happy Holidays
Depends, if you switch modes the numbers change. If you frequency shift, the numbers changes. It's got some issues to work on.
your audio went out a quarter in.
@@peterleray6084 weird I watched the video myself and didn't experience that.
great info vid mate
glad you found it helpful

Nice video. Thank you and happy Hunting 👍👍
Happy hunting to you too
No 53 or 54? I wonder how many other ID numbers are missing.
@@misterbrent good question
I actually saw a chart someone made. There are a lot of missing numbers and that's unacceptable.
Apex is better. Vortex is really not good.🕵♀️
Thanks for all of your work on the Vortex and Apex Andrew. What you are showing is basically what I am seeing too. The Vortex is just slightly deeper and more stable here than the Apex but I was hoping for much more. I just posted a topic on Detector Prospector about the VX9 Multi frequency notching and weird target IDs and maybe why that is. Look forward to your input.
@jeffmcclendon3835 Thanks Jeff, I know you have been doing a lot of testing yourself. Appreciate your write ups.
I’ve owned Garrett since the middle 90s but when I purchased a fisher cz6 a my MD life changed. My friends and I cleaned out the silver in local parks and to this day no matter which machine is used, very few silver signals are left:)
Did you use any newer machines?
@ I’ve used several since the cz. I used the white spectra v3i, minelab explorer 2, Garrett at max, and now the xterra pro which I haven’t used in the field yet. It’ll be interesting to see how it does. I’m pleased with so far just playing with it in my yard.
great video! happy holidays to your family and you!
@NHbeachmetaldetecting thanks and happy holiday to you too.
Qual é o melhor em profundidade?
Boa noite. Podes fazer um resumo entre o vortex eo Apex?
For beggenier what recommend??
@ROTOPERCUTAT there's a number of detectors I'd recommend for a beginner. From Nokta look at the Score and Simplex models. From Minelab look at the X-terra and Vanqush models. You could also consider the Garrett Apex. All of the detectors I've mentioned are under $500.
@RelicsRings thank you!
Do you have the update.
@@Robert-t1p yes
3rd video I've watched on vortex and things aren't looking too good for this machine 😕
@@samsungcrossland2036 not at the moment they aren't
hoping Garrett would have a winn here but seams to be a mediocre offering like the Apex I had the Vanquish 540 pro a nice entry level machine but went back to my xp Deus thanks for the video
Thanks
I’ll take the Vanquish over the Garrett, the Vortex tones are horrendous
Great video, so what are your feelings on the Manacor versus the Gold monster with the MA coil and the new sensitivity we’ve been hitting targets I would say just as good as the gold monster a friend of mine he thinks it’s better than the gold monster, I haven’t had enough time with it yet to make that assumption, but I’m impressed with how good it’s doing with Gold, but with the 8 inch coilI have the nine as well I would say on Gold the 8 inch coil is better than the nine anyways keep up the great content and let me know what you think
I personally have never compared it to the Gold Monster. I have compared the Manticore to the Garrett Goldmaster 24k and it's noticeably better on small gold than the 24K.
Digging bebes with bill southern.in arizona.
I havent seen any close up pics of the cam locks. Did they use the old school style twist locks lol?
@flyrock2 Yes, they're twist locks, doesn't seem like i can twist them hard enough to keep the shaft from slipping up and down.
Get on your knees dig 100 targets......reality....your selling detectors😂
