My wife started hybrid training - here's how

My wife Lily started hybrid training. Although she's always been active and more recently has enjoyed her running, she's never combined regular running with lifting weights nor truly thrown herself at a block of training. In this video, we look at her motivations, her baseline strength and fitness and discuss how to program her training going forward. ⏰ Timestamps: 00:00 - Introduction 00:42 - ...

when you improve your running economy, you’re gonna fly; since you have the strength and aerobic base is growing. plyometrics will help too.
luckily i realized my aerobic base is 😂 really quickly.
W video for 10k
Anaemic coffee... homoeopathic dose of caffeine. Yeah I figured you were a HP 😂
I think it's overrated to use different cycles in strength training. A moderate number of repetitions can always be chosen. Everything else is far too specific just to get fit. Moreover, a black-and-white mindset-one repetition range for hypertrophy and another for strength building-is, in my opinion, outdated. Also, fatigue is not higher in lower repetition ranges.
nice video, right now i am on a cut and trying to motivate myself everyday. Thanks for the video:-)
super
excellent video. as someone who is 25 who trains the same as yourself and whos physique is the same its refreshing to see this content. I think it is inevitable you will hit 100k followers come end of the year
Good video ...keep up good work Love from algeria...just subscribe
I’m a 47yr old exp rugby player now being treated for Leukaemia. Your videos have inspired me with my fitness and health approach. I got back into training but was obsessing over losing weight. Through 2024 I started running more and wanted but didn’t see myself as a runner or bodybuilder and missed the sort of training I was doing for rugby. I can really see myself training in this hybrid way as it’s all about function and general strength, fitness and healthy lifestyle. Not necessarily about how you look in the mirror, albeit that will likely be a byproduct if you eat well. Thanks for your videos and I would love to see some which are specifically about how you design your training plans/splits and work out your nutrition requirements to suit your training schedule and maintain muscle and weight
Beautiful home❤
for people that are in decent shape and have access to a treadmill and want to start running, i recommend following this log below: Week 1, Monday-Thursday-Sunday Week 2, Wednesday-Saturday Week 3, Tuesday-Friday From here, you simply repeat. You first need to figure out an ideal running pace for running 30 minutes without stopping. If your starting out, I recommend 6mph. You will also increase speed by 0.1 mph each time you run. Lets say you start doing the running log on monday (week 1). You will set the speed to 6mph. On Thursday, you will set the speed to 6.1 mph. On sunday, you will set the speed to 6.2 miles per hour. Each run will be 0.1 mph faster, and every run will be 30 minutes. This means you will run a slightly further distance in the same amount of time each time you run. What’s unique about this schedule is that it doesn’t reset to monday each week. It actually resets every 3 weeks. I made it this way so you can get 2 days of rest in between every workout. You don’t only get plenty of rest, you also always have the same amount of rest. If your lower body muscles adapt quickly and start healing faster, you can also try a 2 week cycle with only one day of rest in between. Week 1, Monday-Wednesday-Friday-Sunday Week 2, Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday
Refreshing .... Great knowledge! I shall subscribe incase there's any golden nuggets 😂
I am not getting more athletic. I am becoming old and very weak. I am 42 years old. I think maybe I should stop training.
What are you eating? With hybrid training fueling your body is a must!!
That’s a sign you should keep training and progressing if anything. Don’t need to do hybrid training like this, 2-5 low intensity 30 min cardio sessions a week along with some strength training 2 to 4 times a week eating a good amount of protein, healthy fats and carbs. Don’t quit your regime mate!
Great content, would be more better if you use high quality camera...
Having spent years as a cyclist who over last year I committed to strength training with minimal cardio. This year I’m looking to bring back the cycling whilst keeping the strength focus. Thanks for the video and ideas.
I've lost 17 kg last year. Currently my main focus is running 4x a week and indoor climbing once a week. This year I want to find a better balance in cardio and strength training. I want to continue running, but maybe 3x a week, so that I have a bit more room to add some strength sessions
Great achievement! And sounds like a solid plan for the year ahead, good luck 👍🏼
Ive just turned 40 and with bulging discs in my neck and an impingement, im feeling impatient to get my body in order. Years of sport have taken their toll. I share your views on this approach. Ive done it in the past and just need to pick up the ball again. Patience.
To enter the gym through those doors is funny haha what if overweight people trynna make a change in their lives but they can't fit through it
😂
Love it mate. Interested to know what your weekly split is with running and weights. Thanks?
Likewise I’d be keen to see the frequency of cardio/ weight split in the week 👍🏻
Thanks for the support! Will do a vid on my current split in the next couple weeks dude 👍🏼
Young men should be playing sport-sprinting , cutting, reacting. Jogging is for old farts. And hydrox is beyond bent.
High endurance, high strength,...whats your speed? If everything is good, chances are your use 😢
“chances are your use”?
Fav🥰
Just being pedantic but there is a difference between strength and power and if you really want to get powerful you should train for that. Not just train the big five (at least imo). Great video though keep up the good work.
Great video. Keep up the good work
I have a question about your lifts. You said you train a couple months more hypertrophy focused and then a few weeks geared towards strength. Why not combine both? For example, for benching you’d have a strength day and a hypertrophy day during the week. I’m not questioning your expertise, just want to hear your way of thinking as I’m currently incorporating both hypertrophy and strength at once. Thank you! P.S. one more question: what microphone do you use? I film videos on my iphone camera and the mic quality isnt the greatest so Im looking to upgrade.
Don’t worry mate always appreciate the questions and I wouldn’t consider myself an expert anyways. That’s just my approach, I follow a type of ‘linear periodisation’ with my own training as have found it always works for me and leads to reliable and consistent gains. Certainly not the only way to do it. I use the rode video mic pro which attaches to my camera. Am looking at also getting the rode wireless go II which is more versatile and could be used with an iPhone 👍🏼
I feel the exact same way about diet. People, my past self included, tend to overcomplicate it thinking they need to do things like go on a restrictive low carb diet or eat these “superfoods” for “maximum gains” as thats what all these fitness gurus parrot. When something is simple, we tend to make things harder than they need to be as we cant believe its simplicity! Also: simple doesn’t sell
I appreciate that you've continued to keep your videos on the shorter side. I'd probably watch them anyway if they were (somewhat) longer, but they jump to the front of the queue when they match up to the time it takes me to eat a snack. Good luck at Hyrox!
That’s good to hear because I cut about 6 minutes of waffle in the edit 😂👍🏼
Keep up these videos man, love them 💪
great vid
The gyatt is crazy bro
When it comes to athleticism you also need to train ballistic movements like sprints, jumps and throws. Never saw that here? Good luck for your first hyrox!
Please could you post what you do weekly? How many times you run a week or how many times you workout a week and what exercises you do? Cheers
Yeah mate will look to do a vid on my current training split in the next couple weeks 👍🏼
Simple, effective, and well put together advice. This is why I love your content so much 🔥👏
HNY. Thanks for another video! I am 74 and pretty fit and no serious aches or pains. I stopped running at 70 and now walk and/or run along with gym workout. Any recommendations?
Any tips for starting Ironman prep?
I was hoping for a video like this to pop up, time to grab a coffee and settle in.
Do you train shoulders?
Absolutely! Overheap press and lateral raises are my mainstay 👍🏼
Such a wholesome video! Subscribed for the excellent, yet realistic hybrid training content. I would LOVE to see updates from Lily whenever she feels like it :)
Great video👏 As a long time duathlete I can’t believe you pitched up, hired a bike and got stuck in to a standard distance off road Duathlon😮. Well done for a great effort. Doing any more duathlons? Sub’d in case you do😉🤓
So successful. Unlike me, loser in life
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
This was also my first Duathlon, and much like your experience, the bike section killed me. Cramp ended my race. but lesson learnt about electrolytes and the need for proper fluid intake pre race and during the race. Keep the great content coming.
looks like a preparation for 90mins race
They don't give you medal 🥇?
Once you remember to hydrate properly you will be fine
Great to challenge yourself like this Andrew! Very inspiring. Have a great Christmas!! From Melbourne, Australia
Where's the top from mate?
It’s a brand called Kathmandu - bought it in New Zealand so not sure if they’re available in Europe/North America
I’ve always been interested in doing duathlons-mostly because the swim leg in my triathlon races SUCK. Keep up the good work bro
Was a lot of fun - I also would never entertain a triathlon because I suck at swimming so it’s a happy in between where I can at least do 50% of the disciplines competently 😂
That's a hell of a cramp, makes you wince just looking at it. Happy New Year to you both.
You’re telling me 😂 thanks mate and to you too!
