The Story of Oblivion's Vile Lair Expansion!
In today's video, I wanted to go through and discuss the Vile Lair DLC featured in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It begins as soon as the expansion is installed, with the player receiving a note from Greywyn of the Crimson Scars. This former Dark Brotherhood, now traitor vampire, has given the player full ownership of Deepscorn Hollow. Travelling their at first doesnt seem like much, as it's mostly an abandoned, barren underground fortress. However, seeking out Rowley Eardwulf at Wawnet Inn, the lair can be restored to its former glory, and its secrets can be discovered by the player! Don't forget to like, comment and subscribe!

You were my top creator on gaming recapped :))
The reason your mage had such a hard time with them is because they're Dunmer, and have a natural resistance to fire magic. Also, to be fair, without DLC, you can get even more money by grabbing the limeware platter from the census building and a suit of Orcish armor in the Orc house in Pelagiad; take them to the Mudcrab Merchant or Creeper and you're in the money.
The graphics of oblivion make me super motion sick, but I’m saving this video to listen to tomorrow while I play something mindless. lol
Every time i search oblivion I get skyrim. This is great
The older i get the more i realize youre kind of a villain in these games
Five gold! That’s more than I make in a year! Who can afford this stuff?
Fuckin one of Oblivions longest side quests was the Mehrunes Razor DLC. It felt like that dungeon lasted forever. The Knights of the Nine was pretty long too, and all the guild quests.
Umbra…once I get my hands on it, Clavicus Vile is never going to see it again 😂
My first experience with trolls in Oblivion was when I was training archery. It started with some goblins near Skingrad and I was walking backwards to keep my distance from them. But then when I finally killed the goblins, it attracted the attention of a bear. So I fired arrows at it too. Then that bear became a bandit. That bandit became more goblins. So on and so on until I ended uo backwards walking all the way to Leyawiin. By that point, I had run out of arrows. Now, I don't normally play on higher level characters, so I've never heard what a troll sounds like. It just sounded like distant swamp ambience... then I turned around and a troll was attacking me. It two-shot me before I could get inside the city gate, forcing me to level up archery again. Most memorable experience I have with that game, hands down.
The real question is whether the fact that he was half-vampire ever became common knowledge, or if it only ever stayed between him and the hero of kvatch. We give him the only written proof, we're not entirely sure how much time canonically passes between that quest and our fight, and no one around us ever comments on him refusing to fight or seems to know the reason why he's so upset. It's possible that he never told anyone else and destroyed the book, leaving the record of the world's only half-vampire completely lost to history. I'm sure some altmer wizard would've loved to study him, and probably would've advanced tamrielic genetics by a lot.
I am really loving your oblivion videos. As someone who has played the game since release, it's nice to see a detailed play through on TH-cam.
Funny thing about these plug-ins. They aren't available for PS3, but are almost completely compatible. I was playing a vanilla run and contracted vampirism, instead of doing the quest to cure it, I tried to come here. It just wasn't there. Thats when I found out Bethesda didn't release it for Playstation. Luckily, I had a PC copy and a modded Playstation, and you're actually able to force the .ESM files to run, just like a mod on PC. Most of the Plugins work, except for some new textures not loading in. Battlehorn just doesn't work at all unfortunately :( This is my fav house next to Frostcrag, despite the purple Sithis Altar lol.
You do a great job. Keep up the good work!
your content is so FIRE! (really great)
On the XBOX version of mw, only 1 asassin attacks you after level 6
Well was gonna watch the stealth archer vid but guess i got another vid to go thru before that. Insane upload speed lmao, well done.
High Elf be like = Human has Privileges she doesn't deserve. I live 10 Times longer than her so her few Mortal Years must be miserable, If you give the Book to Cheekyus you can steal it back for Errana in Finger of the Mountain Part 2, the only ever Quest in the Game that has a directly named Sequel Quest.
Yes of course im right. Im helping a god retake his birthright and gith my followers immortality in paradise.
The Sheer absence of any Sort of haggling in these
Pacifist dark brotherhood
They were so much easier in oblivion, I remember as a kid switching from oblivion to Skyrim and wondering why one troll nearly soft locked my journey to high Hrothgar. I guess a mountainous creature evolves in much harsher conditions than cyrodil
30:57 Hold up. What was the ogre in the dungeon doing with the jumbo potatoes? Those are for The Potato Snatcher quest. The plot thickens!
I feel terrible for asking you to beat the Dark brotherhood without killing anyone. It was supposed to be a meme but now that I see you doing other recommended challenge video ideas I feel bad asking you to do a hellish almost impossible challenge
In the next one can you show what the area looks like without the dlc on as a comparison for how the landscape changes?
2:06 that sounds more than friendly tbh
i will never stop watching oblivion content
I love how they did this as an plug in, you know full well if they did this today it would be creation club.
Hell yeah
The Crimson Scars are an interesting footnote in the Dark Brotherhood's lore. A sub-faction of vampires who attempted a faction-wide coup, with a plot to turn all Dark Brotherhood members into vampires. They believed that because vampires necessarily prey upon man, mer and beastfolk, vampirism is the optimal state for any Dark Brotherhood member. This seems to make sense but perhaps Sithis disapproves because of the vampires' relations with Molag Bal, or perhaps he disapproves because of the limitations that a vampiric requirement would place upon membership.
Yeah I’ve been reading about the Molag Bal theory! I could honestly believe it, Sithis probably wouldn’t want the love shared with Bal!
@ABardsBallad if what I've read about Elder Scrolls theology is true then the Daedric Princes descend from Sithis. He may not care about Molag Bal, but rather he cares about death and chaos and wants as many to participate as possible, vampire or otherwise Imposing a strict vampirism requirement to Dark Brotherhood membership would impede that goal
Damn, I never really explored this place in such detail so I never knew there were so many hidden caches and secrets! Really, it just once again makes me a bit sad that playing as a vampire in Oblivion (in Elder Scrolls in general really) is more annoying than helpful.
Honestly for real, the concept is so cool but the actual mechanics aren’t the greatest
Bard with another class video
The blood crystals can be used to make a strong Magicka potion its a one ingredient pot when you nax alchemy
Ahh very interesting I didn’t know that!
Very spooky but also cozy
That’s a good way to put it!!
Two videos in two days, you should make this your primary source of income 😂
😂 I do enjoy making these vids 👀👀👀
Just go to the ruins where the bitterfish goblins are and you can get enough scales to hand over to the man for the ring.
Okay why does Rowley have a wonky mouth? Is he the only npc like that?
He did have some odd features 😂
This is worth buying just for the insta vampire curing. And to send my fake minion to kill in the name of sithis!
Totally agree! Definitely some pluses to it!!
Essential DLC for vampires 🧛
Big time!! The cattle and the coffin are huuuge!! 😂
the shrine of renewal is the only reason i go into the vile lair.
Yeah I totally get that! It’s definitely a useful altar!
@@ABardsBallad And a lot more simple then the quest. :)
“Thieve’s Den” under Castle Anvil should be next
It just might be!! 👀
Hey Bard shouts out for dropping these everyday, always look forward to them
I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos my friend! :) I appreciate the support!
this is a good one for being a baddie. and it cures you of Vampirism.
Yes very true!! Honestly the quick cure for vampirism seems really useful to me 😂
Wow, definitely worth watching! Didn't know that there are so many uses of this expansion, might be worth it when my Champion turns bad hehe. Thanks for a great video!
I appreciate the support! :) yeah there’s a lot of really neat features to this spot!!
This area is actually kinda pretty, in a macabre sort of way. The garden of poisonous plants, with the tree dominating its center, has always felt oddly cozy to me. And the rest of the lair gives a sort of "cultured villain" feel. That being said, the Upgrade that contains the "Cattle" guy is something I almost never purchase; I don't know why, but the idea of this guy being stuck in an eternal sleep, with a vampire feeding off him, just gives me really nasty vibes. Granted, nasty vibes is something Deepscorn Hollow is all about, so mission accomplished, I guess :P Personally, I always liked Frostcrag Spire and Dunroot Burrow more; I like to play stealthy and magical characters, so they're a perfect fit for me. Besides, an ornate tower surrounded by a frozen wasteland, and a hidden sea cove with a giant pirate ship serving as its centerpiece, are both just things I find to be more interesting, at least on a purely aesthetic level. Now that I think about it, Greywyn himself is something of a tragic figure. I mean, he basically threw away his entire life to please Sithis, only to discover that his actions had done quite the opposite, and drawn his ire instead. So he opted to cleanse himself of his vampirism to make it up to Sithis, and he succeeded; only to die just over a decade later. In a way, it's a sort of cautionary tale about not letting fanaticism and zealotry get the better of you.
Well said! Yeah I think the Cattle Cell may not be one that I go forward with next time either 😂
I love your videos! Oblivion is so soothing for the soul.
I appreciate it! Such a fun game to play!
I like this DLC since back in the day I was able to help the UESP with a very minor edit involving the prisoner. Back in 2012 I think, they didn't know he could sometimes spawn wearing a mage robe or a black robe, so only the black robe was listed until I mentioned it. They checked the Construction Set to confirm and boom. My little place in Oblivion History. :)
That’s wicked!! I guess I got the black robed version!!
Being a Vampire in ES IV sucks, forgive the pun. So the existence of a victim in the hollow is a welcome boon. Sithis does not welcome vampires in his cult, because they are the followers of Molag Bal, and not him! Therefore the vampirism removing baths in the basement. There is no bed owned in the hollow for the player char, only the coffin, which is strange. The sole bed is owned by the follower who provides you with loot. Which is a bit illogical. I prefer the castle, even on a vampire playthrough.
I agree! It’s a strange system that it sort of punishes players for keeping up with their feeding!
I liked your play through. You did a great job with it and your walk through about it👍!
I really appreciate it! Glad you liked it! :)
Have you made a video on quests from the in-game books?
Like the tomes or other books?
@@ABardsBallad unfortunately I am unfamiliar with any content, I am only a few weeks into my first play through.
We worshipping the Dark Gods with this one boys. Everyone say your prayers to Nurgle.. Wait no, my bad, wrong Dark Gods.
😂 I had to look that one up! He looks pretty badass too 👀
@@ABardsBallad Maybe sickness will be an inspiration for a future video👀
