Same here dude. I think I was in maybe 3rd or 4th grade when my brother in law got it for me for Christmas. It’s been my favorite game ever since. I’ve never gotten tired of it still to this day 😂
This makes me feel old. I was in high school when Oblivion came out. I remember driving over to my friends who just got it and we played it. We couldn't believe an open world game could have such good graphics at that time. It was mind blowing. I got a 360 and the game myself about 3 months later after saving up.

It's so funny that this Fighter's Stronghold DLC has voice acting, a story and 2 items that current Bethesda would market it as a creation/ paid mod in Skyrim
These were basically the prototypes for CC content though. Resused generic voice lines, minimal new items, all important info relayed through notes, etc...
back in the day though you would have had to pay for each of the mini dlcs individually, its only because of the deluxe edition we have them included - its closer to the skyrim anniversary edition dlc in that case for a while you were still able to buy the horse armor dlc and the house dlcs from their website for the pc version, you can still buy them on xbox live if you have the base version of the game
It was originally called Dragonfire castle and renamed. it was also the last DLC to be released, and only in english. I remember when this was a free download for two weeks and was stoked!
i always knit with your videos in the background, i never got too far into any of the elder scroll games even tho all my friends really love them, so listening to your videos makes me feel a little more informed on how good the games really are! thank u bard for making so many relaxing and cool videos
@@ABardsBallad Elder Scrolls is not new to make old characters come back so this is so surprise to be honest. Ah, Battlehorn Castle. It's definitely my favorite DLC home. When it comes to the Display Cases, I always put Rolay, Noble, or Guard related items in them. The Kvatch Cuirass, The Escutcheon of Chorrol, Lord Rugdumph's Sword, Knights of the Thorn Equipment and the Sword of Lainlyne in my Bedroom Case. Oh, and the name Arielle Jurard is used for another NPC. In the Anvil Mages Guild recommendation, you meet a Battlemage of the same name.

Just found your channel. I always loved Oblivion and am super nostalgic for it, along with Morrowind and Skyrim. Played so much of them in my teens and 20's and still play them sometimes. This video was fun to revisit and remember this DLC.
I loved this DLC, thought the lich storyline was super cool. Something about houses with hidden secrets is such an attractive trope to me. Thank you for covering this, really pleasant video!
Of the dozens of playthroughs, the 100% trophys on xbox, I never knew there was that much of a story to this DLC. I swear this game has so much content that you can learn something new about it every day.
Guess I should take another look at this place, there's a lot more here than I thought. When you've done everything, you're splitting time between this castle and 15 other properties...
Always felt silly to me how they just offer the castle to anyone who can break the siege. Surely that would have drawn a bunch of competing adventurers who would then fight over the castle. Would make more sense for this quest to appear once you reach a certain level of Fame and be a personal appeal to the player for help imo. Also, funny to me that the lich is a Breton Battlemage named Arielle Jurard. Makes me wonder if Arielle Jurard from the Anvil Recommendation quest is a descendant.
"A cooter mints" That's why I love watching your videos. BTW you said you have never seen the dark elf selling the stuff for the castle before. I guess that means you only just installed this DLC. He is the highest paying vendor in the whole game. In all my Oblivion playthrough's I use him exclusively. He buys everything and pays out really high. You can even bump that haggle slider a bit after maxing his disposition. He is the only vendor in the game I ever sell my stuff to.
Curiously there are 2 NPCs called Arielle Jurard in Oblivion. One is a Breton battlemage involved in the Anvil Recommendation Mages Guild quest. The other is a Breton battlemage turned lich in the Battlehorn Castle Grotto.
Next to the Anvil house, this is my favorite payer home in Oblivion. I love having a castle, and the extra NPCs make it feel more alive. I never even bothered with the other player home DLCs they released.
Are you going to be telling the story of the other player homes? I've never used them myself, only the Wizard Tower place, Frostcrag Spire, due to it's incredible atmosphere and gameplay bonuses.
It was years ago, but I got a version of Oblivion for PC that came with the base game and Shivering Isles. Then the Knights of The Nine disk came with all the DLC except Fighter's Stronghold because it wasn't out yet. I tried to buy it months later separately, but since this was like 2008, it didn't work and wouldn't install no matter what I did. So while I played Oblivion and every piece of DLC on PC for hundreds of hours, I've never in my life played this DLC 😂
😂 that’s too funny! Yeah I guess since this was the last dlc to come out, Bethesda probably released all sorts of versions of the game, each with a new dlc added on lol
@ABardsBallad they've translated everything else though, so I have no Clue why this is the only one they haven't. Also just thought again about the Fact that I've never played the official Morrowind Mods. Wonder if they were translated🤔
I wonder if Lord Kain is a reference to Kain from the Legacy of Kain series. Both are nobles who have been slain and reborn as an undead being, although Kain from LoK was a Vampire, not a Skeleton. Still, I immediately thought of him when hearing Lord Kain's story.
It's probably a biblical reference. As in the story of Cain and Abel - In the story, Cain and Abel each made sacrifices to God, but God favored Abel's offering over Cain's. Cain became enraged and killed Abel, becoming the first murderer. God punished Cain by banishing him from the settled country and giving him a mark for protection. Traditional interpretations consider Cain to be the originator of evil, violence, or greed. So whenever a storyteller needs an instantly recognisable bad guy, they always call him Cain (or Caine or Kane or Kain etc...)
I always get this expansion and another mod mixed up. It also added a castle with a similar storyline, but you had to recruit the people yourself and it was at the top of a hill, with the steward living outside in a tent. Can't remember it's name for the life of me.
Really like your style of video and narration. Not sure if you plan to go through skyrim at some point, but think your style would compliment it well. Any thoughts on going through older elder scrolls games? Or even fallout?
I've always made this fortress my home, regardless of what class I play as. Shame it is not placed more centrally though, or does not come with the option to do anything with the Grotto, missed opportunity I'd say. It could be a really cool area to add some more use to.
It certainly seems useful no matter which character you’re playing as! And 100% agree, the grotto is so cool, sucks it doesn’t really do much else other than act as a prison
Used to be that, if you had the standard GOTY version, Steam wouldn't even let you buy GOTY deluxe because it was the "same" game. You had to petition Valve to remove the game from your account, then pay full price again for the version that actually had all the DLC...
I seem to remember that the player couuld recruit a guard from the castle as a follower/companion in a similar way to an apprentice from the guilds or the adoring fan and if they died a new one would eventually respawn back at the castle... am i remembering that wrong?
