I played Oblivion for the first time last year and immediately picked up the Game of the Year Edition with all the DLC. This tower was one of the first things I checked out.
@ABardsBallad I thought it was amazing. It reminded me of the College of Winterhold in Skyrim. I've always been fascinated by anything related to magic, and starting the game and receiving a tower was really good.
Frostcrag Spire was always my favorite expansion as a kid. The alchemy lab and the spellmaking/enchanting altars were always something I loved fucking around with. The Daedric Lava Whiskey was something I especially liked; I've always loved collecting rare/unusual items in games. So, something like a one-of-a-kind bottle of alcohol was a perfect fit for my collection. Side note: One thing I always thought was funny, was jumping off the very top of the tower, and fast-travelling _just_ before hitting the ground. The idea of my character avoiding falling to his death by simply walking away made me laugh way harder than it should have.
Frostcrag Spire certainly has its charms to it! I was thinking at the top of the tower, if only Leap spells were a thing in this game! 😂 that would be a fun way to get places
@@ABardsBallad Just so long as the Leap spell in question also made you immune to falling damage (at least until the spell wore off). Wouldn't want to end up like that one unfortunate mage in Morrowind, would we? :3
@@highlordlaughterofcanada8685 Well I imagine there's basically nothing new to do in Oblivion at all. I meant more as a project for someone to do in their spare time.
One thing of note for Frostcrag Spire, is that if you do a certain amount of steps right, you can enter the Oblivion Testing Grounds via the Frostcrag Spire. And get the unique and extremely overpowered Test Weapon: The Mace of Doom.
The trick is only useful on consoles though since on PC you can just spawn the Mace. The funny thing about the Mace is that it is actually a bladed weapon instead of a blunt weapon.
@@ABardsBalladyeah, it's best if you choose to do it without getting anything from store for tower, since you then need to rebuy all tower dlc items from lady
Battlehorn seems the obvious first choice until you realise how efficient this wizard tower is. The alchemical benefits make it essential for any max difficulty run. The bed, storage, and alchemy table is all within turning distance as well
Yeah the wizards tower is a good utility, and convenient to have. I still prefer the castle just for roleplaying purposes. Plus it’s bigger and has some hidden places. I just have to travel to the arcane university to craft spells.
It's absolutely perfect when combined with mod that adds room in mages guild that adds portal room between all guild halls, basically perfect form of near fast travel if you wanted to play without
You can summon 8-10 dremora with daedric lava whiskey; from which you can sub every dremora with a summon, you can reset the summons and you will have an op team on your side! 😊 Discovered it on accident
No way you can cast 🔥 and see him more clearly 😮 I have always been looking in there trying to get a better look. I'm booting it up right now and going there, I love this game
I find it interesting that the lack of NPCs and the isolation of the tower is a negative for you while being one of my favorite things about the tower. I just like having a place to myself, away from prying eyes where I can store loot and take a breather. As they say, one man's trash is another man's treasure (I know you didn't call it trash but... you know what I mean) Anyway, the tower might be my favorite player home in the entire game, especially when playing as a mage. It's nice and functional, has an interesting design, the enchanting and spellmaking altar are very convenient, breathtaking views and lots of storage. And as I said, I do like how isolated it is. Makes me feel like a true mage who's dedicated to studying magic and performing experiments, keeping away from prying eyes but still having ties to the Mages Guild with the teleporters and such.
Not only was this great for mages who didn’t want to wait forever to unlock spell making…but it allowed console players access to the dev testing hall that had access to every sigil stone you can get at your lvl quickly fill up your inventory. (To get here, stand in the dadric plant spot, save the game, DELETE frostcrag & reload the game)
You lucky bastard. Even if it's just a couple of house dlcs, I would give just about anything to go back and re-experience anything in Oblivion for the first time again.
The wizard's tower was my favorite player home when playing Oblivion, mostly because that alchemy station and the plants there helped me make a lot of money early on
I didn't use the DLC for my first Dunmer character but I made this my base of operations for an Orc mage i made back in the day. It worked really well for him. I remember i actually got this DLC for free from a game magazine demo disc.
>Install DLC >Get to the towers garden ASAP >Stand in the middle of the garden hugging the daedric fauna section of garden >Save >Unistall DLC >Load up game >Profit?
Always the first decent player‘s home with almost no gold in the beginning as well as the Myrwatch tower in Skyrim. Recently started to play Oblivion again after almost 19yrs. This game was my childhood with 13 years of age and a Xbox360 console doing everything except the Shivering Isles that’s why I came back now I feel to do it all over again because I’m certain ways this is much better than Skyrim. Simply fell in love with this game a second time though I‘m not a kid anymore that shit his pants when first encountering a goblin at 3am 😂
There are certain players (like myself) who never use fast travel unless it's in-universe friendly like a carriage, a boat or a teleportation circle. So those teleporters to the different mage halls came in very handy in my playthrough with the self imposed rule of not using fast travel. Would often detour to my wizard tower to save time on travel.
I kinda hate how this DLC starts and that it's exactly how way too many features of this kind are integrated into the base game. No discovery, no sense of diegesis at all, it just dumps an item into your inventory assuming you've already played the game for a significant length of time and completely demolishes the fourth wall by psychically telling you exactly where to go with the flimsiest of excuses. It's genuinely depressing how little effort it takes to actually maintain any kind of suspension of disbelief.
With Midas Magic, You Can Have A Super Strong Teleport Using The Frostcraig Spire., Reserve 1 Portal To Have Access To Like 7 Others, Great For Vampire Mage Builds
@@highlordlaughterofcanada8685yeah, you need to do basically 8 quests in order to access spell crafting was mixed feeling to some, so not needing to do all that every run probably sounded amazing
Nah, it's not just you. The ghost house in Anvil felt more cozy. The tower is cool, but it feels like a place you just grow plants in and keep storage.
This brings up an interesting question; can you beat Oblivion with just the addons? Having the Stronghold addon gives starter armor and a weapon, but potion making is really difficult as the mortar and calcinator are guarantee spawns but eventually become weak later game. Made more annoying as the plant room has really good components that only work best on expert-rank alchemists? I also think the one healing spell is in the Vile Lair addon but is really bad as it's regen-based rather than instant with rather pricey 30-40 mp cost.
I remember the glitch where you'd save with your character there then uninstall the DLC and end up in the dev testing area where you could find some OP mace and like every sigil stone. Otherwise impossible on console.

You actually can find the remains of the Kvatch Mages Guild in-game. The reason the teleport pad doesn't bring you there is for quest design reasons.
I enjoyed that the mod beyond bruma in skyrim allows you to visit this tower again, abit ruined and a bunch of mages trying to figure it out

every game I have has the issue where they don't unlock the shop so I have to start eveey run pickpocketing the key from one of them

I would like more of these types of DLC for future Bethesda games but they just have their players make their game content now and charge for it.
