Huntsman bow is the only bow worth using for stealth. DOT does not seem to benefit from backstab bonus at all so the pierce damage is the only one getting multiplied, often leading to higher one-shot potential. Add on the much smaller noise radius and it's far better for anything other than large hp pool enemies, which even for them it is uniquely capable of isolating them. Add on the fact that poison damage is worthless against Serpents with frost arrows in the huntsman being significantly more effective - which you unlock around the same time as the fang - and it really is a downgrade a majority of the time.
Iron mace is the best weapon to kill stone golemns, they become so easy with this combo, parry and demolish them
@@wutt5176 True, but they are kind of uselss mob and easily avoidable.
Probably the mixed. Once i beat the mistlands boss
@@chrono2959 Mixed armor is a solid allrounder
Has any of this changed in the last year or does it still hold true?
@@chrono2959 All the numbers for armor tested are true, but I have more recent videos with the new armors. General rule of thumb is that the root chest is just overpowered.
@@t0ssacoin408 thank you .
I won't disagree that the set is viable. It's for sure fun to use and effective to an extent, but to claim it's the best set. Opinions are nice, but all these Valheim youtube videos claiming movement speed is king etc. etc. just seem to be trying to show off something off-meta just for content. I have seen live streams of these Fenris lovers and they die constantly. Ashlands is designed to be overwhelming in terms of mob size and you will get hit by things inevitably. You are not getting hit by things constantly, but those one or two things that hit you occasionally cannot be fatal. Try getting hit by one of the one or two star mobs without pierce damage. You will get one-shot much more often. Why exclude Askvin, Valkyrie and Voltures? Coincidentally enough, those are high-frequency mobs with minimal to no pierce damage. Try testing a hit from 1-star Askvin. It takes lucky one hit in the middle of a fight to go through the trouble of picking up your corpse. Sure you can run away from a fight, but the point is which armor set is more effective? That would be in terms of time you need to spend to clear out the biome. You can't say run away from an unfavorable fight with your movespeed. That is simply too time-consuming. It's actually much easier to fight Fader with no gear than to try to maneuver your way through Ashlands mobs with low armor rating. It just takes much longer and depends on luck.
th-cam.com/video/5s-2O3AVYss/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=T0ssACoin This video has numbers for all of the mobs. Best is situational, but I don't carry multiple armor pieces to swap between for each fight, so I try to choose an armor setup that is best for majority of situations. Movement speed is definitely king though. Best defense is to not get hit. I just usually choose armor builds that mix protection and movement because that is more casual friendly, which I very much am. There is usually a reason most people prefer the lighter armors in this game.
Finally getting back to valheim for the ashlands. Love your armor and weapon vids. My friends wants to try and be a hybrid mage. I don’t really feel like that’s viable or efficient. What is your take on that?
@@gMRibcage Totally viable, just a different way to play. Also, a little weaker at first because you can't level magic until the Mistlands. I have a build video for the Ashlands that uses this idea.
@@t0ssacoin408 I haven’t watched that yet. I’ll do that. Thank you!
@@gMRibcage Anytime, no problem at all!
I read the description of Fenris armor on the wiki, and it only mentioned frost and fire resistance. Not sure if it's outdated, or maybe they removed the speed buff.
@@chadnorris8257 The wiki still states the movement speed buff. Just did a quick google search. It is in the stat box for the armor.
Ouch! I was wondering if there were 2 stars. We just got to mistlands and haven’t seen any yet. Did you guys kill him?
@@Krokpot7 We killed him, but it was super close. Definitely a fun experience.
I feel like combination of balanced gear, eitr food and drugs (in form of long stamina regen potion and fire wine), makes a lot of sense and allow you to adjust fighting style depending on situation freely but I wouldn't go without long stamina pot and greater healing, as non veteran player
@@marekw7562 Yeah, the goal is to have a kit that covers the most situations without sacrificing all of your inventory slots.

If only parrying was a skill in valheim...
@@franzjones179 I talked about it with another commenter where I ran some more tests. Including 100 block skill. They are just crazy strong.
I tried to enter with Fenris and gave up due to very low defnce and daggers becoming very ineffective. Switched to mage with skill levels below 10 and it was much easier, especially after getting the root staff after first bastion. On my first playthrough I used max armor build with sword and bucker, it was very viable thanks to parrying.
@@burger-enjoyer Parrying is super strong on default settings

Some recommendations. Another comment already pointed out that staff of the wild is really good cause it can easily deal with Valkyries, Morgens and large hordes of mobs so, just use it. As for the melee weapons, whilst Nidhogg the Thundering is an amazing choice, since your aren't using a shield, it would also be worth trying the Brutal Slayer, or the Thundering Berserkir Axes since you can deal TONS of damage super quickly with these weapons. Other than that, I wouldn't really change anything aside from maybe the cape because you already have the staff of protection, maybe you can switch to feather cape? Since you can more easily dodge opponents and immediately redeploy the shield. Anyways, Great Video! (sorry for long comment).
@@loanphung3056 Thanks for the comment. I was trying to stick to a theme for this build, but those are certainly good optomizations.
This is all fine until the game sends 1.29 billion mobs at you at the same time. Then mages win.
@@RussellMiller-i5h Practice makes perfect. Certain packs of mobs are certainly harder to parry.
This always happens to me my luck is just the worst. My friend cheats i know he does cuz he takes like 1 dmg from a seeker soldier while i take like 40

@@rdnorbix5363 the drip does go hard!
The problem with these guys is they don't respect any of the timing the rest of the combat lays out. They just spam attacks and don't give you a moment to recover your own stamina, even if you're dodging effectively.
@@kieran2446 Yeah they are a pretty unfair enemy.
How can you can get this weapon before venturing into the Black Forest? You're saying: Build a karve. Karve requires bronze nails. You need copper, tin and surtling cores for smelters to make these nails, all of which are not available in the meadows.
If you get lucky, a leviathan might spawn within eyesight from the shore. Then you can craft a raft. So technically you can get the abyssal razor before you enter the black forest, but it is more likely that you will need a karve to find a leviathan.

3 chapters only? You missed like half the biomes
@@mysimsadventure7914 I don't make the chapters. I guess youtube does. All biomes up to Mistlands are covered. I have a newer one that covers up to Ashlands.
You can even mine all of the chitin before the leviathan starts sinking. All you have to do is log out before it does and it'll be as you never triggered it. Also works with the ones with the flame metal ores.
@@MegamanNT I thought they had an update to make the flametal one not sink? Useful tip for the leviathans though.

Yeah, when i first landed in the ashlands, i was running full carapace armor, and i kept getting my ass kicked so much that my minimap looked like a graveyard, and when i heard that the root harnesk had crazy defense against pierce, i slapped that bitch on and died way WAY less, ofc if i get bum rushed by a million twitchers and warriors, i get my ass handed to me because the damage they still do is insane, but i can finally comfortably explore the biome withput having to be paranoid all the time, even when i have the full flametal armor built, i still take the root harnesk to the ashlands, it was a literal life and nerve saver 🤣
Why root armor? It has nothing and has fire weakness in lava biome
@@jakubcoufal4544 Barley Wine cancels its weakness. If you are curious, watch the full video. I cover the armors against all ashlands mobs.

These takes on the askvin cape are the most brain dead I’ve ever heard The clear use for the askvin cape is kiting mobs you can literally out walk them if you have the cape due to the buff all while regenerating your stamina or mana allowing you to fight effectively forever without ever getting hit you almost never need to jump in the Ashlands it’s all flat and climbing doesn’t help anyway askvin is far superior and one of the first items I made from the Ashlands definitely better than the mistlands cape arguably even situationally when compared to the flametal cape due too its armour you could argue it’s better but there is 0 purpose to run the mistlands cape xD
Glad we agree that you probably don't need the feather cape in the Ashlands. The Ashen cape however, is literally a stat stick of relevant combat stats in a combat oriented biome. You are totally right that there is not a better cape for kiting (in the direction of the wind) than the Asksvin. The Ashen cape will just offer me the ability to eliminate more enemies quicker. It just fits more playstyles and weapons. If kiting is your primary playstyle, then I can see how it would be very good.
yeah fire dmg weakness is just what i need in a lava based biome
Barley Wine cancels out the fire weakness of the root armor, and you probably want Barley wine in a lava based biome.
@@t0ssacoin408 yeah i do but i really dont see the point of root armor here
@@pavlestojanovic9631 root armor halves pierce damage. Pierce is a common enough damage type. The Morgen literally only does pierce damage for example.

yeah these guys make the game suck hard. its a joke, i found one that was level 11, i was level 13 with 13+ level gear, It can practically 1 shot me, not only do i run out of stamina blocking the attacks a melee attack does nothing to its hp.. total shit show. I thought lower level enemies are supposed to be weaker.. These guys ruin the fun of the game cause when you see them you have to just run away.. and if your in a area that you cant jump up and cheese them you are screwed, they got 20ft reach and can jump to you.. The devs are bone heads for making these guys too strong, and on top of that if you kill one, you a rune and torn cloth wtf.. straight bone heads.. The devs need to fix this shit and also revamp the loot dropped from enemies. I can get a rune and torn clock from a level 3 enemy, why i am i getting the same loot from a level 11+??
@@turboimport95 Honestly, if you could stagger them off one parry it wouldnt even feel that bad.
@@t0ssacoin408 problem also is, there are usually 2 of these guys at a time.. hard to block rear attacks from guys with 20ft reach, that attacks multiple times.. you would have to be realistically 10x levels higher then them to get a decent fight..it the devs removed these guys from the game, it would be so much better.
